Chapter 3 - Give Me A Break! No. 003

Silence, that's all I could hear. My legs were cramped from the newfound sleeping position. The small slot I had left was bright now and had some light shining in. I got out my knives and tried to check outside through the hole.

It was empty, no one and no thing making no sounds. I grabbed my stuff from my little home and got up.

I checked the restaurant for the map and the man with his whiskey had one in his pocket luckily.

I was in a city called Korzunovo there was another small city east of me, around 10 miles away, and a larger city where I should be able to get some answers was around 80-110 miles Southeast of me, Murmansk. The government has a naval base there and I should be able to get some answers.

I left with my small bundle of belongings down the road as I headed east hoping for a nice quiet journey.

Around 45 minutes into my treck I saw the city from the forest. It was almost 11/noon-ish and I was nervous, I dropped the bag and pot by some trees and covered it in leaves, just enough to keep most animals or people from seeing it. I grabbed my knife and headed into the city.

As I approached the first house I was met by silence and my footsteps, nothing out of the normal. I peeked into the window of the house from a crouched position and saw nothing interesting inside. I decided to keep walking down the street. I failed to notice the lack of corpses on the ground at this time.

As I reached the next house I could hear something break this new silence that had become my life. I turned around and saw two rats the size of larger dogs come out of an alley way from across the street. I froze and stared in their direction hoping they wouldn't see me. Now I knew why there had been so few corpses in the road.

The second rat saw me and with a screech ran at me, I grabbed the knife tightly and got into a crouched stance. There was about 5 feet between the two rats. The second rat was to the right of the first. As soon as the rat got around ten feet away I ran at it. and stabbed my knife into it's neck on the left side, a dark red liquid covered my coats arm. It was important to only fight one at a time or else I could get hurt, so it was important to use one rat as a shield between me and it's partner.

The rat immediately spun around and tried to jump and bite me. I stabbed the unfortunate rat in the head and it was dead, the second one charging instantly. I ran at it and then dodge to the right, slashing it's hind leg and injuring it. It immediately slowed it down and it's next attack was not really an attack as I shoved the knife through the top of it's skull, killing the second and final rat. Two rats and they used to be a foot long, now huge monsters that can easily rip you to shreds.

Ah, what a wonderful world as I gazed at the grey cloudy sky.
