Chapter 4 - What happened? No. 004

I remained unmoving for hours standing, staring at the sky wondering what sick being wanted me to be here and not a fu****g corpse. I turned my head back at the two rats behind me. Their blood had soaked through the pavement and would remain there until something ate them.

My jacket was ruined so I scanned the streets carefully for a tailor or clothing shop. I saw one around 2 blocks down. I ran for my stuff and recovered it with no losses, I left the bloody jacket behind, empty and bloody.

I walked along the buildings towards the store and I had to be careful because I didn't know if there would be more rats. I walked into the store and checked it for pesky rats. After an hour from my first encounter with these beasts I could relax as I locked all doors I found.

The store was pretty well kept. Despite the rundown buildings this one was untouched, and quite clean. I checked behind the counter and found an ax that seemed to be in pristine condition. I grabbed it and set it down with my other stuff, I went to the back of the shop and found a storage room.

This was the first place where it looked like something was wrong. The shelves were knocked over and clothes were just lying on the floor. I found a needle though that could help in repairing a ripped jacket or pant leg.

I left the storage room without a jacket, but I had found a spool of thread that I would keep.

The sun was setting so I pulled all my stuff behind the counter and grabbed a clothes rack from the other side of the room and pilled a thick layer of jackets and shirts to conceal me. I feel asleep under a nice toasty blanket.

Morning arrived quicker than I wished. Slowly I got up and checked the doors to make sure nothing broke in and would surprise me during my shopping and everything was intact. I went and picked out a light grey over coat. It seemed like snow would be falling soon as I checked the calendar, and it was already late September! It would be very could for sure. Plus, the light grey would blend in and conceal me from anything worse than the rats! I also grabbed another shirt to wear underneath to help keep me warm.

I ripped a dress shirt and covered my food bag so it would be concealed. I went behind the counter and found around 50 rubles on the ground which I picked up and kept in my pocket, a little money is nice, if it still is worth anything.

I left and walked down the street and spotted a restaurant across the road, so I crouched and slowly and swiveled my head around constantly. I finally crossed the road and got to the entrance to the restaurant. I dropped my bag and entered the business with my axe in my left hand and a knife in the sheath to my right. I entered and saw a mostly empty room, except for a pair of legs and a third rat
