"Mama, Papa, I am so excited!" Little Kyra mumbled, looking through the car window.
Norah, Kyra's mother sitting beside her father who was driving, turned around and ruffled her hair. The three were happy, chatting and laughing as they drove towards the beech.
"But, baby next time, I won't fall for your tantrums." Norah warned, "You cannot suddenly plan a picnic and make a scene to go."
"Papa," Kyra pouted, tricking her father to take her side, who smiled shaking his head.
"I agree with your mom this time, Lil Bean!" Sighing out loud, he added, "I almost had a heart attack when I heard you broke something again and threatened your grandma."
"But you guys are always so busy," The little girl mumbled, crossing her arms, "And only visit me twice a week." She was trying to be angry and they smiled seeing through her act. "And grandma is boring!" She grumbled.
"But, you were the one who wanted to be her disciple. Weren't you?" Norah asked, turning around and Kyra just huffed out loud.
"Alright," Seeing that she was really angry, Richard added, "We promise to take you out every weekend! How is that?"
"I don't need your fake promises!" Kyra roared like a little tiger.
"Then, tell me what you need princess? I can get anything to tame our little tiger!" Stephen smiled, looking through the mirror as Kyra's face immediately gleamed at his offer.
"Then, Then," Climbing up her seat, Kyra supported herself with their seats and demanded, "Get me a little brother! I promise to never ever disturb you!"
Her parents looked at each other and burst into laughter. She was indeed a box full of surprises, just like her magic source that was growing inside her.
"Mama, Mama look, look!" Kyra squealed, holding up her palms as she created a huge wave. Her major mission coming to beech was to learn this spell and get compliments from her Nana.
Norah and Richard gasped coming closer to her. She had managed to form a huge wave, that almost reached the heights of a giraffe. Norah teared up, happy seeing her daughter wonder them with her marvels, while Stephen smiled proudly. His daughter would become the best witch in the timeline, greater than her Nana, and he couldn't wait to see that day.
"My Kyra is awesome!" Norah commented opening her arms, as she rushed towards them, water splashing loudly as she broke her spell.
They both hugged her, and Kyra squeezed in their hug, happy that they were the first ones to see her first big incantation.
A minute passed, and Kyra felt something fade away. She felt strange as they didn't continue hugging her. Opening her eyes, Kyra blinked as her parents had disappeared. She looked around and saw things vanishing one by one, and so did the beech as she nervously ran around searching for them.
Everything left her alone, the place turning into a dark room as she cried searching for her lost parents.
"Huh!" Kyra sat up from her bed. She gasped for air, her lungs giving up as she tried breathing in and out. Something felt empty inside her as if she had just lost a precious thing, but she couldn't remember it at all.
"Kyra," Anna rubbed her back and when she didn't respond, she called again, "Kyra, are you okay?"
"Huh?" Kyra looked at her, and then at her surrounding. Everyone was concerned except for Andrew who was glaring at her.
"Here, have some water." Dr. Johns passed her a glass of water. He then checked her pulse and monitored her normal checkups.
Drinking the water, Kyra tried to fit everything that was puzzling inside her mind. She had sacrificed something, and the grim reaper accepted it. But, what? And, how did she end up on the bed? With an IV?And wait, where was the culprit?
"Where is the Wendigo?" She asked, looking at Anna who sighed continuing to pat her back.
"It's secure in the dungeon." Kevin who sitting on the empty bed beside her answered. He even took out a tissue box, and then passed some tissues pointing at her cheeks.
Kyra touched her cheeks and taking those tissue, she wiped the tears that had covered her whole face. She was crying? But, why?
"How do you feel?" Dr. James tried distracting her, "Any pain or uneasiness?"
"Nothing, but a little weakness." Kyra mumbled and later shared, "But I feel a kind of voidness! Something empty inside me."
"That's because you are hungry!" Kevin tried to cover up. But, he was aware that they couldn't hide it from her for even a day. He had realized that whatever the memory was, it related to her parents and she would find it out very soon. Or, worse go mad trying to find what she had sacrificed!
"No, it's something else," But before she could continue, Andrew cut her off with his outburst.
"Yeah, she would be hungry! Hungry for more troubles!"
Everyone sighed, just waiting for Venessa to come and handle the situation. Kyra hadn't done anything wrong, and to be honest, she had done something great worth their praises. She had proved her loyalty to not just a case, but also to their whole team and completed this case for all of them. Though, discreetly!
"You guys can go and fight in your office!" Dr. James was the one to rescue Kyra. Glaring at Andrew, he added, "I need silence in my medic wards!!"
----
An hour later.
Andrew's office.
Kyra and Kevin sat silently, while Anna poured herself a glass of water. They had been here for the past five minutes and his silence was freaking her inside.
"I give you guys a day off," Andrew started, but shaking his head, he continued, "No, it's just a half-day, and you guys sure used it well!"
Anna placed back the glass, she couldn't drink for maybe a whole hour, now that his grilling had kick started!
"And, not just that," Getting up from his chair, Andrew continued, "You have even risked our jobs!"
"Bravo, Guys! We all will be unemployed in an hour!" He clapped his hands, so loud that the three felt fear tickle in their veins.
"Oh, come one!" Venessa who had sat opposite them stood up, "They didn't commit a crime! Lucky you, they gotta save your face in front of that alpha team leader!!"
"YOU, SHUT UP!" Andrew yelled at her. All this mess, their suddenly hyped motivation, everything was because of her spark, and that was now burning everyone down!
"First, you make over in my damn office!" Andrew started listing their little tricks, "And for damn's sake, you even destroy my hidden chip! And, guess what!" He glared at the couple, and continued, "you two are the cute new lovers people are now gossiping in the control room!!"
Kyra wanted to puke at his comment while Kevin just held his urge to throw up. Like, for hell's sake they didn't wish to hear their little act again! Only they knew how hard it was to put on that facade faces, and they literally felt goosebumps recalling that whole scene! The worst experience in their entire lives!
"I suggested it to them!" Venessa spoke again, "Blame me all day! But leave them to rest! For the last two days, they have been through so much!!"
She was right! Just two days and they have seen hell in the entire phase! Finding a mysterious culprit, tracking a lost soul, losing their case to an enemy unit, secretly revolting against the KNIGHTS, time-traveling shit, and worse, meeting a grim reaper whose face had been now wiped out from their memory! Yes, they for sure had been through an extreme level of hell! And they needed to rest, before they continue the further investigation on the culprit!
"I warned you guys to stay low! We agreed to transfer this case! And, the Alpha team was already finding the culprit in the most direct way, unlike your trance shit!" Andrew took a breath and continued, "But what did you guys do? Caused chaos again!!"
"I had expected this from Kyra," Looking at Kevin and then at Anna, he continued, "But, you guys too? Huh! I have no words to compliment you now!"
"Then don't!" Kyra finally spoke, as she was deeply irritated by his voice, "You are free to shut up and just go nod to your daddy poos!"
The other three held back their chuckle hearing her comment. Daddy Poos? How could she just come up with such nicknames?
"You!!!" Andrew wanted to strangle her to death. She was the leader behind all this nuisance, and she deserved a beating from him.
"What?" Kyra got up and glared at him, "Instead of thanking us, rewarding us, or wait even just praising us for cracking such a difficult case and getting you the culprit, you come and shout at us! Why?" Crossing her arms, she mocked him, "Just because you can't yell at those seniors and take out your anger on us! Like every damn time!!"
Kyra had a point and the three just sat silent, relieved now that Kyra was taking him down. It was written all over his face that she was right, and they just enjoyed the show.
But, before he could grumble, Venessa's watch ticked about the meeting they needed to attend. It was a battle that would blame them and her three mates who violated the rules! But, she had prepared a bicker buffet for them, and she would talk today! Let them know their places, and also get the rewards these three deserved for saving that soul!
"We need to go!" She got drinking the glass of water Anna had poured earlier, and when Andrew continued glaring at them, she added, "Come on, your daddy poos are waiting!"
"Pfft, hahaa!" The other three laughed at her sarcasm, only to receive a glare from their Chief!
"I am warning you guys," Wearing his coat, Andrew continued, "No more troubles until I come back! If you try to pull more tricks, trust me I will drink you today!" He made it very clear to Kyra who just ignored him with a nod.
She had already planned one more task ahead. And, before he would come out of that meeting room, she was sure it would be successful! All she needed was Kevin's help, like again and only that thing was holding her back.
He wouldn't take one more risk at her command? Not again! Would he?
