Crime Unit-3H, Balcony.
Reaching the wide green-filled area, Kevin sighed walking towards the glass railing that reached almost up to his chest.
He always wanted to work here in the crime branch since childhood, and only he knew how hard it was to go against his family and apply for a psychometrist course. Coming from a normal human family, it was exhausting to compete amongst the creatures who had unreal powers and were stronger than him in every aspect.
"Money has no value in this world. So move away piggy bank!"
"You have no powers and we cannot be friends with a mere human!"
"Coming from the lowest pathetic human race, how dare you sit with us?"
Those memories from his middle school flooded back and slightly wavered his breath.
He was once highly discriminated and bullied for coming from a rich human family, and years have passed but the trauma as still stayed fresh. He took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes to calm down.
The thunders banged louder this time making Kevin sigh out loud.
He didn't need to look back in the past unless there was strong reason to do so, and that thought made him sigh again. And when the rain drops started to pour down, he turned around to leave, but...
His eyes widened in shock as a familiar creature stood just a meter away from him.
Soon a black code alarm buzzed around and a female robotic voice came through the speakers, "CREATURE FROM CELL NUMBER 32A HAS ESCAPED THE DUNGEON! PLEASE ACTIVATE YOUR PROTECTIVE BANDS AND STAY WHEREVER YOU ARE!"
And it was repeated again and again!
The workers got tensed up and started murmuring among themselves. The black code was used only in unusual cases like when a creature escapes from the dungeon, and that happened only once in a year or two, maybe?
And when the voice continued to order them to wear their bands, everyone hurriedly took out their magic laser bands from their drawers. Pressing the button it had on the left side, most of them sighed as the device got activated.
These laser bands cloned with an invisible spell served as basic protective weapons given by the investigation bureau. They easily created a green shield around the person wearing it, turning them completely invisible and inapproachable for any kind of predator.
Kevin searched his pockets to find anything that would help him even in the slightest possible way, but was out of luck and could only curse out loud, "Shit!"
The creature brawled out loud again, this time showing it's paws with razor-sharp talons and that almost broke Kevin in tears. He found it funny how he was stuck there, forced to either fall down the 20 floored building or be a feast for the scary creature in front of him!
"Mr Mr handsome Wendigo, let's make a deal." He quavered with a nervous smile as it looked terribly annoyed by his voice. Oh yes! Why wouldn't it, since he was the reason it got caught!
"There are better dishes like… Kyra! in our branch. I am sure she will taste better than me, so," He gulped his next words when it roared again, this time all set to attack him.
He shut his eyes tightly as it jumped in his direction, too scared to even run and try to escape!
"Dispendo Aqua Insepiano!"
He heard a familiar voice and slowly opened his eyes one by one. That spell had formed a wave using the rainfall around, almost blocking the creature that was about to tear him apart!
And, it was no one else but Kyra who was trying hard, very hard to push it back using the waves she had formed through her spell.
---
A few minutes earlier.
"Shit! Shit!" Kyra cursed realizing that she forgot to recheck the lock!
Now that the lift had stopped working and she was stuck, her worries worsened thinking about anyone who would come in front of this creature. And if they turn out to be humans, especially with weaker powers and worse, of AB blood group type, they would be doomed for real!
Rubbing the side of her neck, she nervously tried to plot the whole scenario in her head.
Since Wendigo's often felt suffocated in packed and warm places, she was sure it would be wandering searching for a wider and open place. And her eyes brightly gleamed as a location flashed in front of her.
Balconies!
"Asitano balcanarium!"
She cast the teleporting spell to first reach the balcony of her unit and luckily it worked, almost managing to save Kevin from becoming a feast!
---
Present time.
"Huh?" Kevin blinked coming out of his shock as Kyra continued to fight back the monster, which was now slowly overcoming her tide.
They were soaking wet as it started raining, and thunders continued to roar but Kyra didn't budge nor did she give up when the creature almost broke her wave. She cast a stronger spell and tried blocking it.
"Idiot! RUN!" She yelled pushing him to the side with one hand while simultaneously controlling the monster with the other.
"Don't die, okay?" Kevin said before running out of the balcony.
His colleagues who were eye witnessing the scene sighed in relief as he was safe, but their attention fell back towards the balcony as the creature's shriek petrified them. Lesser a minute and they weren't sure if Kyra would come out alive.
"Dammit, where are the golden guardians?" One of the workers exclaimed as they barely saw anything due to the heavy rain and all they could do was just pray for Kyra's safety until those guardians' arrived.
These Golden Guardians settled on the highest hierarchy of security divisions in KNIGHTS, and were appointed solely to deal with crises that needed utmost priority. And this situation was almost like a national crisis. A creature escaping from its cell? It wasn't as simple as it sounded, at least for them!
As seconds passed, Kyra started losing her strength and her water waves were getting thinner and less effective. She knew that those golden guardians would be here anytime soon and tried all her might to control the asshole in front of her!
"This isn't good!" George mumbled as the creature inched closer to Kyra, and a rotting idea flashed in his mind.
"Hey! Come here, man!" He shouted out loud that almost sounding like a whisper in that heavy rain. But worse, he also threw the water bottle he was holding in its direction, and that grabbed Wendigo's attention. Since George was wearing his band and was completely invisible, its eyes fell on Kevin who had just reached their edge. He turned pale in purple, as it stared at him.
"Just try to distract it until she gains some energy! Go!" George pushed him forward with a smirk and Kevin looked at him in disbelief.
Senior Detective George, a half-vampire, and half-werewolf loved bullying humans and here he went again, endangering someone's life!
"Are you insane? How can I distract it?" Kevin blurted out but he knew it was late!
"George!! Are you out of your mind?" Andrew who just came back after having a chat with his higher-ups glared at him in disbelief so did the other officers. But it was too late to even control anything as the creature had already been distracted from Kyra, and was now facing them!
"Bloody Shit! Why did you do that?" Kyra cursed out loud as the creature was now unfazed by her. Her waves continued to hit its back but all its attention was now on Kevin, easy prey to catch than her.
As Kevin was easier to approach than Kyra, it brawled and slowly crawled in his direction as the storm made it difficult to locate Kevin's exact position. Kevin panicked as everyone else was invisible except for him and even Kyra looked helpless.
"H-H-Hi!" Kevin nervously laughed as it inched closer, just a few inches away from him.
"Shit!" Kyra cursed as it was almost out of her control and she needed to do something to save Kevin!
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes to think of a quicker solution. Since she had to keep the monster alive, nothing looked better than transforming it into something less harmful, though using transfiguration spells was forbidden in their organization!
Taking a deep breath, she opened her eyes, and stretching her fingers, she mumbled an effective transfiguration spell.
Soon a small magic ball formed in between her hands, and she waited a few seconds for it to grow bigger and stronger.
"Cariato Capicano batrochos!" She incanted out loud, using all her energy, and forced the ball in the Wendigo's direction.
But before it hit the monster, flashes of Silver Sediatons were shot by the Golden Guardians, who stood in the air amidst that heavy rain, fleshed inside the Wendigo's body and it fell down with a thud the next second.
And unfortunately, the magic spell Kyra had cast hit Kevin's body who was standing right in front of the monster, just a meter away!
And that's how the once handsome man was suddenly curbed down into a little frog. A few seconds passed and when the frog tried to come out of the clothes which Kevin was wearing earlier, people stood stupefied, awestruck by that wholesome transformation!
A frog? Kyra sure had good taste in pets!
