Chapter 7 - Scapegoating! The What?

The next day, Delta Unit Floor.

The clouds continued to cry again, with the sun slowly peeking out of those gloomy shades. It was trying to paint everything in gold and reassure everyone that everything would be fine, and they can look forward to a bright and cheerful beginning after the last night's unexpected storm.

But it was different for the people on Delta Team. Everyone looked down and bleak, a few trying to sleep in the resting rooms while a few others just staring at the time, which had stopped ticking for them since last night.

"It's almost 8 in the morning! Do we need to wait for our whole life now?" Kyra growled, barging inside Andrew's office who was finally trying to get some sleep.

Ignoring her, he continued to rest back on his chair, his eyes closed and his tired body slowly sliding into a deep slumber.

"What did you guys discuss in that hell-long meeting?"

"I am asking you!!" Kyra grumbled crossing her arms as Andrew continued to ignore her.

After lecturing her for a whole hour to don't even dare to think of that time travel shit, and even attending that strenuous chief board meeting, he was finally able to rest. But here she was again, jumping on him as soon as he came back from that meeting less argument more sessions.

And when he didn't reply, Kyra just snapped her fingers and opened all the curtains in that dark cold room.

"For hell's sake, Kyra!" Andrew yelled as those radiant rays hit his skin. It had been almost a week or two since he hadn't gone out of SCD thanks to those scary cases piling up under his belt, and even such a small amount of sunshine was hurting him like fire.

"Close them right now!" He groaned as she threw away the curtain remote with her spell when he tried to grab it. His skin started burning in reaction, and it soon turned red but Kyra just stared at him, waiting for an answer.

His eyes turned red, fangs peering out of his jaws and he glared at Kyra, so threatening that his assistant who was standing at the door, felt chills run down her spine. Her hands shivered almost giving up on the tablet that she was holding tightly.

"Ar-Are you out of your mind, Kyra?" She managed to scold, as Kyra just glowered back at Andrew, unaffected by his menacing outbreak.

Taking the remote from the ground, Venessa closed all the curtains and sighed when Andrew fell back on his chair, sighing out loud.

"Get out! NOW!" He yelled, so loudly that even the workers outside his office were shaken by his voice.

"Fine, I will just get my answers from your seniors!" She replied before walking out of the room, and Andrew almost broke his desk in outrage. She was getting harder to manage these days and now that she was busy again, making a scene, he just wanted to just blow this whole damn building!

"I will handle her!" Venessa mumbled keeping her tab on his desk and later rushed behind Kyra.

She ran through the corridors and found Kyra storming towards the elevator. Closing her eyes, she teleported and grabbed her hand as she almost entered the elevator.

"Leave me! I just can't sit quietly like you guys!" Kyra grumbled as Venessa dragged her out of that corridor. She was basically an apprentice of the last paragon sorceress from the Aliana clan, the greatest sorceress of that period. So basically, Kyra was nothing but an ant in terms of power and strength in front of her.

Pushing her inside her chamber, Venessa locked the door and sealed every camera and the other security devices placed in that room with her powers.

"And, I can understand how Chief can," Kyra shut her mouth when Venessa suddenly held both of her hands, her elf ears slowly popping out.

Her eyes turned green, as their hands got connected in a strong spell that Venessa had been reciting in her mind. For the first few seconds, Kyra didn't understand and even tried to break it but when Venessa glared, pressing her palms tightly, she finally understood what her senior was trying to do.

She was actually connecting both of their minds, performing a tricky HME(Holographic Memory Emphasis) enchantment, a sub-powered process of memory projection. It was a strong ritual where one can project the memories of oneself directly into others' minds as holographic images through sensations like touch.

Soon their eyes got locked and Kyra got dragged inside a 3D pictorial scene of a group of oldies arguing with each other. She found Andrew sitting on the left side of who seemed like the deputy director.

"Let's just shut down this case!"

"Yeah, the afterlife people never entangle with our organization! If we ask for their help, what do you think the citizens will think about us?"

"He is right! The prime minister council will again come and bark at us!"

"Let's not forget those palace authorities trying to dig a grave for our organization!"

"Yeah! Even His Mejesty won't help us if we fail after reaching those workers in hell!"

"Even those government-run investigation units are already giving us a headache! If this case gets out, we will again receive petitions to shut down!"

"Then what about the victim and her family?" The elder, sitting beside Andrew asked, his fingers tapping each other, as he leaned back on his chair.

"The media is closely watching over this case! We can't just wrap it up!" Andrew finally uttered, his fists clenched so tight that Kyra could easily sense his boiling anger.

"We can get a scapegoat and convince it as the culprit!"

"Yeah, he is right! Let's just get someone from the outcast world and cover this up!"

And everyone started nodding to that Chief's statement. He was basically the leader of team alpha, just a rank superior to Chief Adams who always came with trashy ideas like such. Even Kyra's brow furrowed at the statement!

For hell's sake! Were they kidding?

"This isn't right!" Venessa who was also present in the room, sitting beside Andrew was seen objecting but her voice was nothing in comparison to the loud opinions echoing in that superiors-filled room.

Kyra almost wanted to enter that scene and hit some shit in their heads. But too bad, they were just some holograms and she couldn't even touch them. She just stood there, hearing their senseless suggestions, and could only shake her head in disapproval.

They were losing their brains along with their decreasing ages! She was sure about that!

Venessa couldn't keep the enchantment any longer and soon broke the contact, making Kyra gasp out loud, as she was harshly dragged out of that holographic spell. She started coughing out loud feeling breathless and Venessa helped her sit on the couch.

"Ho-How can they?" She grumbled soon coming back to her senses, recalling every word and every face that was present in that room.

"Here, have some water first!" Passing her a glass of water, Venessa unlocked all the security devices from her spell and just sighed out loud.

It was against the law to perform HME in front of their juniors, especially if it involved some absolute confidential matters like that meeting. But, she was out of choice as even Andrew was trapped in his senior's diplomatic nets. She wanted someone to do the job and Kyra was the best person to trust with this case.

Suspicions would soon spread about the missing CCTV footage of her chamber where she performed HME, as even she was under security's strict radar after that group meeting. So acting up was the only secure plan to help Kyra crack some of the clues.

"Yeah, the party we had last week was really fun." She mumbled, choosing and coding her opinions carefully.

"I know right! Can we go there again, Senior?" Kyra asked, more specifically questioning if this case was really out of their hands.

"No, the club would deny our access this time as someone has stolen my premium card!" She started shaking her head, conveying that the case was already handed over to the other team.

Kyra's face turned grim in reaction. Like, how could they let it go so easily? Hmph, scapegoating the culprit? The heck!!!

"But if you have a partner, I think you get a free couple pass as they are running some special deals this month!"

"You know parties won't be fun without a date!" Venessa added with a wink, conveying that she needed someone's help and couldn't clean this case alone.

"Ohh wait, I heard George bullied Kevin again last night! Is it true?" She asked, precisely suggesting Kyra to try that George's trance joke. She did hear about it and, somewhere even she felt that time-traveling might work out.

After code chatting for a few more minutes and planning their next move, Kyra walked out, her mind now completely exploding with various equations.

Venessa clearly mentioned that her whole team was being monitored remotely and so talking with Kevin in an indirect way was the best plan. Precisely, also almost an impossible task for Kyra to do in this lifetime. They both barely managed to have a normal talk without fighting like dogs and having an intimate chat? It was a nightmare!

Walking through the corridor, she thought of some other plan, every little possibility but nothing was as convincing as Venessa's plan. Asking someone out sounded better and safe, but her plan was too bold to try on Kevin.

Sighing out loud, she erased all her thoughts as time was ticking and took out her phone to text Kevin.

"Chief wants you in his office! Be there in 10 minutes!!!" She typed, adding extra exclamation marks trying to highlight that it was an emergency.

Tapping the sent button after jumbling for a whole minute, she sighed out loud, annoyed, irritated, and hell angry with the plan that her brain was still begging her to reconsider it.

Will she really succeed in taming that psychic prince? That too with her seducing skills? She was doubting the last part!
