Screech!!
The tires sparked against the winter road, as Kyra brazenly stopped the car on that empty highway. Her car was followed by Kevin, who stopped beside her and both stepped out to face that scary night.
Kyra rubbed her fingers as chills ran down her spine. And, she wasn't sure if it was because of the weather or her tensed-up heart. She was sacrificing herself today, worse her powers that might be withdrawn today by the elites of the magic world.
Unlike her, Kevin was too calm to say anything. He was worried to death, but what tortured him down was his guilt! His guilt of crossing that line and bringing down those hurtful memories to Kyra. Rumors about her mother's death were true to some part, but there were people who believed in the tale behind it. And he was one of them. But today, he had been too harsh with his words.
"Look, I never intended to say that!" He dared to speak first as they both walked towards the center of the highway.
"Say what? The truth?" Kyra cut him off. No, she wasn't pissed but was just trying to never recall that memory. But he was too kind to haunt her again.
"No, I mean I never believed in rumors. I never cared about it actually! So," Kevin tried to put everything he felt in a line. But, alas, he wasn't managing to say those right words!
"Just say what you want to!!" Kyra cut him short again! The lesser they spoke, the better it was for their mission.
"I am sorry!" Kevin finally uttered.
"It's fine!" She replied back, before engaging in her work.
Sighing out loud, Kevin took out his phone and tried reaching Anna. She had hurried them to the site worrying that Kyra needed to prepare out her things, and he wasn't feeling good alone with his counterpart!
And when she didn't receive it, he sighed looking at Kyra who was now busy performing some light-based spell. The area was dark and yeah, he was already feeling his emotions raise up. The memories inside his first memory trance had started tormenting him, and he just wished to end everything soon.
Soon, the whole area was lit up with some illuminant lanterns that hung low in the sky. Kyra sighed satisfied as she looked around the place, and then started emptying her two full bags.
Kevin tried calling Anna again. She said she would bring up the other things required, and he badly wanted to go help her fetch those things. He looked around the place, only to gulp and heighten his negative thoughts.
The place was dark and deserted, with the distant howling of unknown creatures that were searching for their next prey. The thick forest on either side of the highway was pitch dark, even the shades of those sky-reaching trees gloomed over the highway. He heard crickets sing their nervous cry, while toads hid from the trolls that wished to dine on them. The decaying air and stifling atmosphere held a scent; a scent to scare them off and suffocate them to death. But, here they were fighting against all those odds, just to make the evens reach their end!
"Hello!" Kyra shouted so loud that he almost jumped in surprise.
"Will you help me out? Or continue enjoying this scenery?" She grumbled holding what seemed like bones in her hands.
He sighed before walking to her side. And only then did he notice the large, golden star-like drawing she had spelled in the middle of the road.
"Why did you draw these in the middle of the road? What if I find more memory strains here?" Kevin grumbled, placing his hands inside his pockets.
"If I don't do it here, with all these lanterns covering around, I might fail to summon your life savior! Do you want me to erase them and shift to the corner?" She asked, coming out of that star-like alphabet she had managed to draw with a spell.
"And what is this?" He questioned back while gritting his teeth. The lesser they argue, the better would the mission go!
"A Vishachati Chakra!!" Kyra said, placing those bones in different columns of the chakra. And in the center, which was large enough for someone to sit and relax, she placed a skull, that had weird markings on it. Something like spells craved on it when he took a closer look.
"Here, take this!" Passing him one of the bags that had weird weapons, Kyra entered the Chakra with another backpack. The blood of a rat, the flesh of an owl, and the feathers of a black eagle were the main things she took out and later placed beside the skull. Taking out a knife and a small box that had some weird purple stone, she rechecked the tot bag and threw it out of the Chakra.
"That leg bone is out of its column," Kevin mumbled pointing at the bone in the column in front of her.
There was a total of nine different columns, each had some weird alphabet or spell glowing in it and they all were linked to the central big center. Kyra had placed a different type of bone in them. And, he had no clue about the whole horror setup!
For some reason, he felt like she brought all of those things just to scare him off, and he was actually believing it now that she was ignoring not just him, but also his words!! He sighed looking at Kyra, who was busy craving something on her little new friend, Mr. Skull!
"I said, that bone is misplaced!!" Kevin mumbled again and this time, even dared to enter the chakra whatever to fix it and almost paralyzed his leg!
"Ouch! Ahhh!" He groaned as heat swept his leg, and immediately backed off from that little firing dragon.
"Did I ask you to come and fix it?" Kyra mocked, continuing to crave some spells on the skull with her knife.
"You did that on purpose!! Didn't you?" He groaned as his leg continued to burn, the more he talked the more did it hurt for some odd reason.
"Sigh, you can't stop picking one me! Can you?" She replied back, shaking her head that Kevin huffed out in annoyance.
"You should have warned me!!!" Kevin grumbled, sitting on the road as his leg now felt numb, his toe was almost red in pain.
"I am warning now! Stay away and try those weapons first!" Kyra answered with a smirk. She stared at his leg for a few seconds, and it instantly healed with her healing spell. And that made him scoff out loud!! So, she hurt him on purpose! Great, he thought getting up from the ground!
Taking the weapon bag, he walked towards his car to get some water. He needed to calm his nerves, now that she was actually the one who was picking on him! Taking revenge, maybe!!
Throwing the bag on the ground, he took a bottle throw the car window and gulped it down. Glaring at her back, he sighed out loud before calling Anna again.
"Pick Up!!" He grumbled as the call went to a voicemail again! He was unable to share the common air with Kyra and he needed her here! Right here, so he could complain about Kyra's little torture!
----
While in a basement.
"Uncle, hurry up! We need to start before 7.30!" Anna mumbled looking at her watch. It was ticking so fast that her heat started losing its rhythm. "Ahh, it's almost seven now!"
"For god's sake, Anna!" Turning around, Dr. James took out his big experimental glasses and yelled, "KEEP QUIET!!"
Though she was wearing her headphones, playing loud music to avoid reading his memories and stressing out her mind, Anna could read his lips and shut up.
"Those two can't avoid fighting even for a damn minute! So, I need to be there, asap!!" Anna still dared to speak up, only to receive a hard glare again.
Sighing out loud, Dr. James turned around and focused on his brewing cauldrons. There were four sets on flame, each having different potions or shots which he thought those two freaks might require.
"Is it done?" Anna asked, not even waiting for a minute.
"You know what I hate in your unit?" Dr. James groaned adding a few more ingredients, "You guys are so impatient! Specifically, with me!!" He pressed the last line taking a step backward.
Soon, his potions started boiling up like a volcano. He flicked his fingers and phew, and the whole table started working on its own. A few of the bottles started cleaning themselves, while the sticks stirred the cauldrons.
"Five more minutes!" He signed her, before walking out of his small lab vanishing beneath the stairs.
"This will cost you troubles, Jammy!" He mumbled to himself, as some magical hands started removing his coat and other protective gears. Getting neatly sanitized, he walked exactly after five minutes to avoid that intolerant brat.
He stood beside Anna and crossed his arms, waiting as his little inventories started filling the bottles for him. The four small bottles were then neatly wrapped in a small transparent box and were offered to their master. Dr. James took the box and sighed, before handing over it to Anna.
"Whatever your new adventure is, remember I never made these potions and," And as she grabbed the box impatiently, he added, "I am not a part of your little crazy team!"
"Yes! Yes! I completely got it!" Anna mumbled, rushing out of his lab. She entered the stairs and soon vanished into the hidden black alley that led her to the main road.
They were all set for the mission! She thought, smiling determinedly while walking towards her car.
"Just a few more hours!" She remembered herself again, before entering her car.
Yes, in just a few more hours they would succeed with flying colors! But, would they? She was doubting because of the two sworn heroes of this mission! The ones who specialized in messing everything up with their fights!
