Chapter 12 - A Slip of the tongue!

Chief Andrew's Office, Delta Unit.

Venessa was the first to enter the office and sigh loudly as nothing looked suspicious. Andrew followed her, his mood ruined in that hour-long meeting!

"They called to inform us that this case was not ours anymore! Isn't it?" Venessa grumbled, sitting on the couch as Andrew slumped on his chair.

"Do we look like a joke to them? Huh!" She scoffed filling up a glass. Though they were not as capable as Unit Alpha, it was wrong to treat them like some sidekicks.

"You could have stopped it from happening! Couldn't you?" She glared at Andrew, who just sighed deeply in response.

He wasn't willing to give up on the case, not when his whole team was suffering so much to jot it down. But, he was tied up as well! A poll was suddenly raised, and none took his side except for the deputy director. They all badly wished to make him fall, make a joke of his unit using this dead-end case, and he was not in the mood to entertain them. Less bring more harm to his juniors!

"We will have mayhem now!" Venessa couldn't help but worry about her unit's reaction. Specifically, Mia would tear him alive, though it was all a part of her acting.

"Do we guys look like some robots to you?" And here she was, thought Venessa as Mia entered in less than a minute. She stood at the door, papers crushed in her hands glaring at her Chief.

"We worked our ass off! For two straight days!" Came her loud voice, that echoed in the whole room.

"And is this how you reward us, Andrew Adams!!" Throwing the papers, Mia glowered calling out his full name. And that made their brows twitch in surprise!

She was feeding Andrew his own medicine? Wasn't she? Thought Venessa holding back her urge to laugh. Andrew Adams, you are dead for sure!! She boldly wanted to spell that out!

"Mia, let's talk first! Alright?" Venessa joined in her act and tried calming her down.

"Talk what? How all her efforts will be transferred to those doodly duckly faces?" Kyra questioned back, her brows almost touching in frustration.

'You are a good actor, Kyra!' Venessa conveyed through her eyes, while lips hardly managing not to curl up.

"Answer Me, Chief Adams!" Kyra took a step forward, banging his desk with both her hands and bent down to look at him.

"Is it true?" Came another beloved actor, Mr. Kevin! He had confusion written all over his face, while his eyes looked dull and sad.

"Are you insane, Chief Adams? How can you let go of OUR Case??" Came Anna the next minute. George and a few others followed her inside the room. No, they weren't part of Kyra's act, but involuntarily were helping the trio accomplish their rewards!

"Yeah, we were missing you guys!" Venessa commented sighing out loud. She sat on the couch, her hands pressing her temples. She needed to act as well, and later convince their Chief to give them two days' vacation!

"You know what?" Kyra suddenly stared deep into his eyes, and later taking a step backward, she stretched out her palms. And,

BOOM!

She blew his whole desk, which shivered before crashing into pieces. Thanks to Andrew's vampire instincts, he immediately emptied his chair, almost avoiding her life-costing breakout!

"Go resign your post, Mr. Pity Puppet! You lack the powers of a Chief!" She thundered as he glared at her for that absurd tantrum and later walked out of the room.

And everyone in the room, who almost had a heart attack sighed out loud, realizing that the storm had walked out. They looked at the shattered desk, and later at their Chief, standing a meter away from his chair.

Shaking their heads, a few walked out satisfied with the results. They were angry and Kyra made sure to take it out on behalf of all of them.

"Even I am disappointed in you, Chief!" Anna mumbled, acting like she was deeply hurt before walking out.

Soon everyone emptied the room, one by one, leaving Andrew alone to regret his decision.

"Consider giving them some time off!" Venessa mumbled as he made his way to lay on the couch. He was hurt, she could sense it.

"I mean they overworked themselves in this case. As they were deeply connected with the victim, you know!" She added while pouring him a glass of water. "So, let them stay away from work for a while! Maybe for a day or two!"

"Crossing paths with Alpha Unit might even irk them to fight and cause more troubles! It's better if we stay low for a few days." Throwing her final ball, she passed him the glass. They would surely succeed in deceiving him, at least now that Kyra took her acting to just another level! She thought smiling inwardly.

Gulping down the water, Andrew nodded understanding her plight. She was right! If his juniors saw any of the Alpha team, they would surely cause a ruckus and lower their grade points. At least he was sure about Kyra!

"Inform the management office, Team Delta will take a two-day vacation. No cases will be investigated by us until my next command!" Andrew ordered, resting back and Venessa nodded, gleaming happily.

The first hurdle of Kyra's plan was rolled out! Now all she hoped was for them to track down the lost soul by end of the day.

---

"Huh! Now he is throwing us off! Great!!" Kyra shouted, getting up from her desk. While others just sighed hearing the announcements. It was rare for them to get leaves, so most of them were happy to spend that time with their families.

"If he is that worried that we might cause trouble, ask him just kick all of us out!" Kyra grumbled packing her things, "We want answers, not this stupid break!"

Winking at Venessa who was looking at her through her chamber, she took out her backpack before walking out of the unit. She even made sure to kick and trash everything that pleased her eyes while walking out. Oh yeah, she needed to put on a very good act!

---

Later that afternoon.

Anna's house!

"No, we should wait until the Wendigo feeds on the girl and later catch him!"

"No, I say we should do it before that! I am not daring to go through that scene again!" Kevin spoke against Kyra's suggestion! He wasn't willing to have his emotions at stake and destroy the whole plan.

"But, we need to get past that scene!" Kyra exclaimed, scratching over the paper. He was going against her every word and she totally annoyed to the core.

"But, is that necessary? We can grab it as soon as I enter the trance!!"

"And what if that memory gets wiped out of the creature's mind? Like, if you bring it out before its feeding time, there is high chance it would forget it during the trance travel! And there is a high risk of soul dissipation here!!" Kyra retorted, scratching more the papers.

"And what's the possibility ratio?" Kevin questioned back. "We never went through such a procedure and how can just make up those excuses!"

"Excuse me? Excuses!!" Kyra scoffed out loud. His audacity to make such a comment!!

"You are unskilled in black magic thing! Just admit that you need time to carry out that process!"

"Huh! Care to explain how such thought crossed your wise mind?" Kyra was totally pissed off with his utter nonsense.

"You are dilly-dallying the whole plan again and again! Moreover, trying to delay most of the things, extending them with unnecessary time gaps! And all of these look like some pity excuses to me!" Kevin answered back. He was pissed off as well as Kyra was going against his every word.

"Ohh! Then should I line up your excuses?" Crossing her arms, Kyra continued, "The reason you wish to fasten every step! Unwilling to wait until the culprit feeds on her soul in the Memory Trance?"

And when Kevin raised his brow, pointing her finger at him and she mocked, "You are afraid! Afraid beyond death that you might fall sick after seeing that scene again!" Not giving him a chance to bicker back, Kyra further added, "Ohh, it's totally fine! We understand your struggles!"

"After all having a short human life span, and more to that a weak heart is a pity in the first place!" Kyra crossed her legs while saying that after a pause, with a wicked smile.

"And what makes you pitier? Your wounded magic skills that cause nothing but trouble all the time?" Kevin questioned back, giving it a thought, he added, "Or is it that daunting memory of you KILLING your own mother?"

Kevin took their fight to a different level. Kyra's expression immediately changed, her lips trembled while her mind spaced out at his comment.

Anna who had been enduring their fight, from the moment they sat to discuss sighed out loud. Kyra's mind had no thoughts while Kevin was feeling guilty at that slip of the tongue. And her mind, which was throbbing in pain till now because of their stupid aggressive thoughts, started calming down now that their bickering storm had come to a halt.

"Now, if you guys are over," Spreading out the papers, she took the lead, "You will move as per my fucking orders and I accept just a nod!"

She ordered annoyedly and the two immediately nodded.

"Kevin will wait in the trance until the Wendigo feeds on the girl!! You will grasp its neck when it tries to run from the scene!" Circling the line between two worlds, she added, "That's when I will give you that pull-out shot!! Which even I am not sure is a handful or not!!"

She made her statements very clear and Kevin nodded, nervous and sad that Anna took Kyra's suggestions into consideration.

"And by god's grace, once we drag you guys out of the trance," Showing the pictures of shackles and other tools, "We will use this Sedative spell cloned shackles around it. And also the skinning cloned silver rocks into its flesh! Hopefully, that will buy Kyra the time she needs to summon a Grim Reaper."

Kyra nodded, though she didn't need them to buy time for her! She was well-versed in her job after all!

"Later, it is up to the grim reaper and his client!" Anna sighed placing down the pen. So did Kevin and Kyra, who were now avoiding gazes.

"Am I clear with the plan?" Anna asked, staring at both of them and they nodded, instantly.

"Fine! It's still 12," Looking at the watch, she continued, "We will leave by 4 first to Collin's Corner to collect things Kyra needs. Later stop by James' secret hideout and then head out to the highway! Let's make sure to be there by 7! Understood?"

And when they nodded, she sighed getting up to cook something for them.

How would she manage these freaks?

Would they avoid messing up because of their fights? She had no idea nor trust in them!!
