Chapter 24 - I'm Now Officially Happy Again

"Uhh, where are we going Matt?" Amy asked confused as she looked outside the car window. "I want to treat your dear, you had your mood ruined by that idiot, so I brought you here to cheer you up," Matt said, then looked at Amy and smiled, warming Amy's heart.

"Matt, you do not have to do this. Seeing you next to me is enough to make me happy." Amy said. "Don't even try, you know you can't stop me, I'm doing this, and besides you haven't eaten since morning" Matt replied.

That statement made Amy's stomach grumble as she began to feel the hunger she had silently endured since morning. The company she worked at actually had three cafeterias on each floor, but there was an incident that made her stop eating there altogether.

An unknown person snuck a cyanide poison to the cafeteria and mixed it with the meal on the top floor. No one suspected anything, until the employees eating there began to collapse one after another, and died moments later, thus affecting the company's reputation terribly.

That incident happened three years ago, but the memory was still fresh in her mind. Ever since she feared eating inside the company. She could have brought her food, but just like any other unnecessary restrictions, she was not allowed to pack her meal for the company.

The couple arrived at a local restaurant, and they entered the building. Matt then went ahead and talked to the manager in front. Then Matt came back and directed Amy to the table in the middle.

While seated, they were given menus. "Hmmm, seemed that you had planned for this earlier." Amy smiled and said, without looking up. "Oh yeah, I did. I planned this for a special occasion. Don't you remember?"

Amy then looked up and gazed at Matt thinking. Matt then squinted his eyes "You really don't remember. It's our first anniversary of being together!" he said jovially.

Amy was surprised. She could not believe she had forgotten this special occasion, but she dared not to show confusion. Instead, she held Matt's hand and said softly "I remembered honey. It's just—I had a lot on my mind, I could not even remember what was the most important to me. I didn't even bring you a gift" as she said this, she felt guilty.

Matt then smiled softly "No, don't blame yourself, Amy. I know you had a lot of things to do, that was why I took it to myself to prepare this occasion for you. Here, take this. Happy Anniversary Amy." Matt said as he held a small gift.

Amy took the gift, then looked at Matt and smiled widely. She opened the gift and gasped. It was a necklace, with custom-crafted ones and zeros with a locket containing a beautifully painted picture of Amy.

Amy could not hold back her tears, as she grabbed Matt by the collar and kissed him passionately. Matt also responded, as he gently stroked her long hair and kissed her back.

After ten seconds of their passionate intimacy, they pulled out. She then wore the necklace around her neck with a smile on her face. "Thank you very much, Matt. This is what I needed. I'm now officially happy again." She smiled as she looked at James with her heart in her eye.

"No this is nothing compared to the smile I put on your face, your happiness is the greatest gift you would give me," Matt said as he stared at Amy's eye with love in his eye.

Then the waiter took the menus and took their orders and left. 15 minutes later, Amy and Matt left the restaurant in a much better mood than they came earlier.

Matt arrived at their residence and drove to the garage of Amy's place. Then they came out of the car and into the house. Amy then promptly went to the kitchen and prepared dinner for Matt and herself.

After dinner, the couple decided to play a game of cards, which Amy won three times in a row. Matt finally said that he was bored of the game and looked at the digital clock hanging above the large flat TV.

10:44 pm.

Then they decided to watch a movie, so they browsed through Netflix and chose the most trending romance movie and began watching till midnight.

After the movie, she kissed Matt goodnight and slept in a king-sized bed with Matt. However, Amy was not feeling sleepy, as she turned around the bed from time to time.

Finally, she got up and went to the study chair near her bed. She then opened her laptop and booted it up. Moments later, she then opened a terminal window and typed a few commands, then a window popped up, displaying a map, colourful texts in another terminal window, and a couple of profiles.

Amy clicked on a little boy's picture and that opened a new window, displaying a detailed description of the boy.

Amy looked at the detailed description of James she had compiled earlier. She was able to get this information due to the nature of her job as cyber security personnel. She created a program that enabled her to ping every smartphone, laptop, or other gadgets that connects to the internet, to get their location, take their identity, and plant a malware tracker on them.

Of course, the victim would not have any idea that their gadget had been compromised, and that added to the beauty of the program.

It was this invention that made her get hired to the biggest company in the city, the AIRC (Argumented Intelligence Retro-Framing Company). She was thrilled the first time she got a job there, and now thinking back, she wished she had not even accepted the job offer.

Amy sighed and closed her laptop and pondered, her hands rested on her chin. They were going to lure James to their evil hands, saw open him, and take out the chip and dump him in the incinerator. That thought made her shudder. She cannot watch and see this boy die, she thought again.

It was her fault anyway for sending this report to the icicle of a manager she worked for, but who could she blame? She was forced to throw all her ethics to the window to become a black hat hacker by the company she worked with.

She was threatened to compile the report otherwise she would lose her head. If she decides to leave the unhealthy environment of a workplace by resigning, she would be hurt, if she decides to say a word about what the company did, she would also get hurt.

Amy was really frustrated.
