Chapter 17 - Search for an ugly green nerd

"Huff...Huff...Huff"

Kneeling on one leg, whilst supporting myself with my draxe, which was stabbed on the ground, I gasped for breath.

-Slash!

-Kueeeekk!

Before I could even have enough time to catch my breath, a goblin tried to sneak up from behind me, but fortunately, I was still alert and dealt with it in one swift movement.

'And here I was telling myself to keep my arrogance in check.."

Holding the left side of my stomach, I felt my whole body become dizzy. I overexerted myself.

Looking at my surroundings, the area around me was littered with corpses.

My previously clear skin covered in green blood.

For the past hour, I had been fighting against more than 20 goblins.

At first, I thought that dealing with 20 goblins wouldn't really pose a problem with my current abilities, but I had severely overestimated my capabilities and underestimated the goblin's abilities.

Just because goblins were supposed to be weak, didn't mean they were actually weak.

Yeah sure, maybe in a 1-on-1 they were easy, but not when more than 20 of them were coming at me at the same time.

It also had to be noted that my rank was still around G+... don't remind me of how weak I am or I'll rank up to SSS+ just to beat your singular ass.

If it weren't for the fact that I practiced the [Parting Disaster], I would've never been able to make it this far.

Jiguku's soul art boosted my physical capabilities by a lot, boosting me to around F rank.

Although stats were important, they weren't everything.

It had to be said, stats were only a mild representation of one's ability.

If someone with high stats were to fight a highly skilled warrior that had lower stats, but far better battle awareness, then the highly skilled warrior could still win.

It was like in games when fighting a boss.

The boss always had better stats than the main character, but he/she could nevertheless still beat the boss.

I knew this on a personal level, boxing, I can't the amount of times my gravity style helped me one shot knockout opponents in those underground fights.

What I did was very simple, center of gravity transported into my fist, sent straight to the solar plexus.

Why did this K.O.?

Fun Fact: A very forceful blow to the chest can injure the heart or blood vessels in the chest, the lungs, the airway, the liver, or the spleen. Pain may be caused by an injury to muscles, cartilage, or ribs. Deep breathing, coughing, or sneezing can increase your pain. Lying on the injured area also can cause pain.

In other words, the solar plexus is one of the many weak spots on the human body.

Similarly, monsters should have them, but I'm a teenager stranded in a forest with no modern technology or prior knowledge, how the fuck am I supposed to know a monsters weak spots!

Some things were obvious, like a giant crystal in a monsters forehead or just simple private parts... but goblins didn't have any of those, I mean, they did have the latter, but I have a wife, so readers, think, with how much I have simped over my wife, do you think I would give two fucks for a baby eggplant attached to a green baby!

So I just decided to go old fashioned, head chop.

Sounds easy, but its hard.

Moreover, because there were so many of them coming at me at the same time, I had to kite them for one hour before I could finally kill them all.

It was only after that I dealt with all the goblins, that I felt pathetic for telling myself how I shouldn't become arrogant and always humble myself in the face of danger.

Had there been one or two more goblins, I really might've died.

Mhhh...maybe not died, but I would've at least gotten severely injured.

Well if we look at this on a positive note, I was almost halfway towards reaching my goal of reaching level 5.

Because the [Parting Disaster] having the word Disaster in it, the corpses were are chopped up in weird ways in no presentable condition.

Fuck me, I can't even sell the corpses, not that there is anyone to sell to...

Each goblin went for 100 EXP, right now I had accumulated a total of 2100 EXP.

Standing up, I decided to stop looking for goblins for a while.

Since I didn't think I was ready to face another goblin horde and hunting a single goblin at a time was just a waste of time, I decided to directly look for boss monsters.

If goblins and monsters of similar strength were considered weak opponents, boss monsters, which were a lot stronger than regular monsters in dungeons, were considered formidable opponents for those who were of the same rank.

Not only did they have much more health, but each of them also had the strength that almost neared the next rank.

If you were in a G rank area, a boss monster's strength would be at around G+ almost nearing F- rank. Making them extremely tough opponents to face.

...Wait, why deal with a boss monster that were stronger than a horde of goblins?

It was simple really.

When fighting against the horde of goblins, I had to repeatedly aim for their weak spots while kiting, moreover, because I was being attacked by all sides, I barely had enough time to breathe.

It was like doing cardio for 1 hour straight.

With boss monsters, although they were stronger, I could have more room to breathe.

Depending on the boss monster I was going to face, chances were that fighting against them was going to be easier than fighting against a horde of goblins.

Boss monsters were all different.

Some were slow, some were extremely fast, some were tanky, some were super strong, there were many different types of boss monsters, and depending on which one I was going to face the difficulty was going to vary.

For example, if I were to face a really strong boss that had limited defense, against my soul art it wouldn't pose as much of a challenge as I could just overwhelm it with my speed. However, if I were to face a big boy with a massive shield, then things would change.

The difficulty of a boss monster depended on how well I could counter its flaws.

But not everything came easy, if it lacked defense, it would counter with speed, and vice versa.

A boss kill would probably grant some mats, but with my AMAZING soul art, probably not.

I was in it for the EXP! (says every noob in every RPG)

I continued to walk, chopping stray goblins from time to time.

The forest wasn't helping and in general, I was lost, not like I knew where to go in the first place.

Suddenly, I saw a cave in the distance.

"I give up, boss hunting is boring, I'm going to rest for some time." I reached the cave.

When I entered into the passageway I could see a single path with a single door at the end. The light from outside no longer shone down because of the roof now over his head. It was a bit dark, but there were torches spaced out on the walls bringing some light onto the path. I knew this scene all to well.

I approached the door and pushed it wide open, and the first thing I saw was someone with their back turned to him. They were in front of a desk with paper spread all over in a messy manner. The room was incredibly huge and at the center was a circle filled with weird totems that had a strange light emitting from them. That light was filled with an incredible power that made I narrow his eyes slightly.

"Human! I smell you! You are interrupting research! Research! Power must be harnessed for the queen!" a creature that was a bit taller than the average human adult turned around to look at me with vicious blood red beady eyes. It had the darkest of green skin, incredibly sharp and cruel looking teeth and in its hand, it held a book.

Looks like I didn't have to wait long. I readied myself, standing in position.

BOSS FIGHT!
