Chereads / Shade The Castles / Chapter 11 - Chapter 10

Chapter 11 - Chapter 10

SOMEWHERE IN THE TOWN.

Random screams and yelps echoed throughout the building. People running up and down without definite direction, the lights were off making it even more horrific. Soon, not just the loud screams but all noise went mute, not a single sound made. And from the darkness heard footsteps encroaching and then suddenly stopped.

"Please, don't kill me," a voice in the room spoke as the footsteps stopped right in front of it.

From the sound of it, it trembled as the speaker was overwhelmed with fear.

The lights came back on and there was William, washed in blood, as such the blood dripped from underneath his chin while he stood breathing slowly, hands not the less. And he used his palm and stroke his hair to the back as he walked more closer to the last man standing.

"I'll ask you this just once," William raised without a sense of humor. "Where is my brother?"

"I-I don't know," he stuttered. "I swear."

"You're the patron of these witches," he turned and waved his hand behind him and behold, dead bodies with hearts ripped, some decapitated, and some just mauled.

"Oh God," He exclaimed in more fear.

"You have power than any of them, just not over me," William continued. "I don't care how you do it, find him now."

Just as he finished talking he bit his wrist and poured his blood in a chalice that laid in front of them on a table separating them.

The witch hastily took and placed a map on the table with four strands of lit candles surrounding the map. He then took the blood from the chalice and poured few of it on the map and began his voodoo incantation. Suddenly, the blood started rolling on the map to a particular destination but then it stopped and the map caught fire instantly.

"His location is bonded with a very powerful magic, I can't go pass through it," he revealed bleeding from his nose as himself must've been affected by whatever deflected his tracking.

"Witches, all saying the same thing," he now adopted his usual sinisterous smile, and what usually comes after that was pretty obvious.

"Ah. . .!"

The long fangs digging deep in the witch's neck brought out the loud scream of pain in him.

The following day in the morning, police marked the attacked building a crime scene as they roamed the area for forensics.

"This is the fifth massacre of coven of witches in the last four months," Daniel said standing a kilometer away from the crime scene with Emma.

She only sighed and turned her back away.

"That's what happens when a vampire walks in daylight," Daniel added.

"That's crazy," she said. "I mean, they are witches and they're completely powerless against him."

"From what you told me, I don't think so," he disagreed. "Part of their magic can weaken him but not for long, not for a desperate one like him."

"Speaking of the devil, there he is."

She tapped him and pointed at William coming out from an alley.

That was incredible, he was actually walking in sunlight and they didn't seem to be surprised either, for they only walked to him.

"William," Daniel called as they got close.

"Hey Dan," he responded throwing away a piece of cloth with bloodstains, probably just used it in cleaning his hands.

"What do you think you're doing?" Daniel asked.

"What am I doing?"

"Come on. . . This is the fifth hit of yours on covens. That's very bad for this town."

Emma as well raise to add up, "You can't just go around killing people because. . ."

"Because of Julian!" William yelled as his eyes glowed. "You freaking abandoned him, left him to die after he saved your tiny little neck!"

"He lied to me!" She responded brashly. "Put my life in danger for nothing I knew not about, and you kidnapped and just handed me over to her. Perhaps you two betrayed my trust."

"You wanna talk about betrayal!"

He moved at her but Daniel got in-between them, pushing her back instead.

"That's okay now. Emma, shut up," Daniel said, and moved a bit away and pulled her along.

"William, I understand your situation, but you gotta stop let me help you get your brother back. Because you're drawing war to Shade. The hunters will soon rise and come here, and it won't be long before the witches assemble against not just you but vampires, and even werewolves."

"Let them," William spit out to the ground. "They first drew the line when they made my brother vulnerable and took him. Not forgetting who helped them."

"You're walking in the sun now because of the supernova that night," Emma interjected.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger," William replied and turned to leave.

"If you don't stop they'll sought war," Daniel belabored.

"Let them come," he replied walking away. "I'll be disappointed if they don't."

As he whooshed away, Emma headed to the alley where he came from earlier, and she discovered a dead body in a dumpster, and beside it was the heart of the deceased out of her chest. Emma found this disgusting and she immediately threw up and shifted back panting in fear.

"You shouldn't be seeing stuff like that," Daniel joined her.

"He's not gonna stop," she said wiping her mouth. "Until we stop him. I think it's another witch."

"That's foolish Emma!" He sounded upset. "Just seven months ago you were a normal school girl, a normal person. And now just because you discovered what you are you wanna go after a ruthless vampire like him, wage war against the Castles?"

"It's just William, Julian from how I saw him couldn't have survived. And William on a killing spree hoping he's alive is a waste."

"You already waged war on the Castles Emma. The moment you walked away leaving him lifeless was prove enough, and whatever reason William ain't retaliating at you or us right now is best we keep it that way."

"Because I trusted him, them and they betrayed me."

"No, I think you know very well why."

"I don't get it."

"I've come to understand the two brothers. Because Julian cares for you and William knows that and he values it. Somehow he believe his brother is out there and still keeps his legacy of you."

"I didn't really knew what he was."

"It doesn't matter. Just stay off William's way and let him believe what he believes. Perhaps you shielded him from the sunlight, your light is as well useless against him," he said and began walking away leaving her in the alley.

"Perhaps, Audrey was right, you just discovered what will make you like your mother," he stopped and added, then proceeded.

A BAR IN TOWN, DAYS LATER.

At night, Emma was sitting in the bar, specifically on the high stool before the counter. She ordered a bottle of whiskey and was drinking directly from the bottle. She looked depressed, her eyes pale and her lips would quiver after each swallow of alcohol.

Suddenly, there was a slam of hand on the counter just next to her and she startled. Turning around, there stood two men all smirking at her.

"Are you up to eighteen?" One of them asked.

"Probably she's a runaway," another added coming much closer. "Having problem with Daddy at home?"

She said nothing but only eyeballed them tensely.

So one of them reached to snatch her bottle of whiskey. From the high stool she kicked him so hard under his testis and down he went. The other rushed on her and she immediately used her bottle on his head. Her eyes briefly glowed and then returned to normal, so brief enough to be unnoticeable by the little crowd in the bar. Without further waste of time, she took her jacket and left.

Outside, just beside the bar, a young man walked to her.

"Hey, I saw you back there," he said smiling at her.

"What do you mean?" She asked keeping her distance.

"You're a white witch. And I came all the way here looking. I've been looking for one my whole life."

He moved even more closer, releasing his fangs and eyes glowing red.

"And you sure know what I can do to vampires right?" She asked breathlessly trying her very best to be stable, but the fear in her however disagreed.

"Your heart is pounding so hard, you're afraid. I don't wanna hurt you, give me what I want and I'll be on my way.

"What do you want?"

"Make me invulnerable to the sunlight," He said and got a tight hold of her arm. "If you try anything other than that, it'll only take a second to finish y. . . Ah!"

He yelped and then fell on the ground. And in front of her stood William with the dead vampire's beating heart in his palm.

"You should be careful how you use your powers," he said tossing the heart away. "Fairies are rare, very rare and vampires are always looking for them."

She exhaled sharply looking rather boggled.

"Th. . ."

"I didn't do it for you," he cut her short, walking away.

"Were you following me?"

"I was following the vampire," he replied walking one.

"I'm sorry!" She raised her voice.

He stopped and slowly turned.

"I'm sorry about Julian," she repeated this time slow and softly.

"No you not," he began walking back. "He cared for you, always been there when you were in danger, and for once he needed your help and you turned your back on him," he finally reached her. "After everything, you still judged him of a mess that happened over two hundred years ago. You think I care how or what you think of me? I don't even care about you a bit, I myself tried to kill you the moment I knew what you were and even your uncle. But Julian stopped me severally and I gave it up," a tear dropped down his face. "When he's loving, he loves with all his heart, and when it comes to brutality, I've never seen anyone like him. And he tries to suppress his dark side, but to save you he went dark that night and you had to watch."

It soon began to rain, yet they remained in it, and she remained silent, and still as way before the rain.

"If he dies. . ." He left it short and whooshed away.

SOMEWHERE ELSE IN TOWN.

At midnight, in a room was gathered men and women, supposedly witches. Candles lighted the entire room with all sort of weird drawings on the wall. Suddenly, a woman walked to the stage and calmed the murmur among the audience.

"You all know why we are gathered here tonight," she began. "The Castles have declared war. They might be invulnerable to our magic, but the Vampire not completely, and as a matter of fact he's now alone. It's payback time, what say you all?"

"Blood for Blood!" All in a voice they chanted.
