The doors at the front of the school infirmary burst open as Professor O'Brien ran in with Sasori in his arms. Everyone spread apart for the distressed professor to run through. The nurses rushed quickly to assist the professor by taking Sasori out of his arms and placing the young boy on a bed. "What seems to be the problem here?" The Head doctor said as he arrived and saw Sasori.
"Quickly get his injuries treated quickly and run all diagnostic spells on him." The doctor said with a quiver in his voice. Sasori had holes into his flesh that covered his whole body. The nurses quickly grabbed towels and covered Sasori's body while they prepared multiple diagnostic spells. The group rushed Sasori into a separate room and shut the door behind them, leaving Professor O'Brien outside.
Professor O'Brien sat down outside the room, racking his brain to see if there was anything he could do. 'How could I let this happen. I was in charge there. I should have never let that voice take Sasori from me. Why am I so weak? It's happening all over again.' Professor O'Brien thought to himself as memories of the past flooded his mind.
Before Professor O'Brien became a teacher he was an adventurer. He lead a group that travelled the globe in search of new species of plants and animals. The group was of average strength, but they were highly intelligent and all they sought after was knowledge. The group consisted of five individuals who came from various backgrounds but who all were after the same goal.
They wished to discover where magic first originated from, and they wanted to know why it came about after many centuries and not just being present from the beginning of time. They wanted to answer all the questions that people had and had deserted after giving up searching for answers. In the group there was a woman who Professor O'Brien had taken a liking to after they first met up.
She was two years older then him, but she was shorter than him. She had long curly hair and the brightest smile anyone could wish to see. She had a small, rounded face with a little freckle next to her nose. She was a very intelligent and studious woman, who knew everything there was to know about magical plant life that the world was aware of and became the group's botanist. She helped the group when they ran out of food supplies by providing exotic but edible food.
She was the rock of the group and was what kept it together. Whenever there was a fight or difference in opinion she would put herself between everyone and the conflict would stop as no one had any problems with her as she was as pure as an angel, and you couldn't find a single problem with her or thing to dislike about her. However, despite how cheerful and open she was with everyone, she hid something inside her.
No matter how much fun and joy she experienced there was always a void that could not be filled within her. At the age of 5, her parents were gruesomely murdered in front of her. A wild animal had broken into their home and had slaughtered her parents before her very eyes. She couldn't remember much of what happened that fateful night as she was found covered in the blood of her parents and that was all she could see when she tried to look back on it.
The officials had decided that a wild animal had broken into the home and run rampant but there was an old man who believed it was done by an overgrown man, but no one believed him as he was very old and couldn't see too well. The woman had gone back to her home the day she turned thirteen and had asked the old man about that night, but he passed away before she could get any useful information from him.
She questioned everyone but nothing came up and she gave up on searching for answers and instead decided to move forward in life, but that trauma stayed with her and followed her wherever she went. That was why she was so happy to be able to join an adventuring group and be able to travel towards the unknown and leave her dark past behind her.
She always kept a smile on her face and prevented conflict because she didn't want to lose anyone in the group as it was the last thing she had that seemed to be like a family and that helped her to continue on in life.
Professor O'Brien would pick on her for her size and laugh at her, but instead of getting upset with the jokes about her height she would laugh along with him. When he saw her laughing and smiling, his heart was taken away by her. He vowed to protect her smile even though he wasn't aware of her past and they group continued on there journey towards the unknown.
The group made a few minor discovers that were put into encyclopaedias and textbooks but nothing big enough to make a massive impact on the magical and non-magical community. As they continued their journey, they started coming across ancient texts and scriptures that they could not read. They were all written in a foreign language that no textbook or encyclopaedia had.
They followed the trail that prevented itself and became excited about the big discovery that they were going to come across. However, it didn't turn out they way they wanted it too. When they got to the end of the trail, all that was there was an empty shed with nothing inside. They searched around it but there was nothing. The stood around the shed looking to find and buttons or levers when the ground started to shake.
The group leapt back away from the shed and stared at the creature before them. It looked like a venus-fly trap but was a lot bigger. It stood over 10 metres high and instead of the normal green colour of a plant it was black and covered in scales. It had sharp canine-like teeth that protruded out from the scales. A liquid dripped out it's mouth that burnt the ground below.
The group tried to run away but vines shot up from the ground, grabbed onto their legs, and began to pull them in. They all used fire magic to free themselves, but vines would not burn or release their grip under the heat. The group tried all the magic they knew and used their knifes to free themselves, but they were unsuccessful. There was screaming and shouting from the other's in the group.
Professor O'Brien could see the young woman, to his left, being dragged towards the creature's open maw. He struggled frantically to free himself from the clutches of the creature but to no avail. Tears streamed down his face as he screamed and shouted, while trying to reach her. He stretched out his arm trying to grab her when he heard a voice and awoke.
"Professor O'Brien, Professor O'Brien. Can you hear me?" The head doctor was shaking the professor by his shoulder to wake him up. "Ah, you're awake. Good. We have secured the boy and he is out of the worst of it now. Are you okay professor? You seem to be crying." There were tears coming down the professor's face which he quickly wiped away and got up.
