Chapter 48 - Recovery (Part 1)

In the days following Sasori's fight against Jacob, he had to go meet with Professor Nara for a daily check up to see if there were any after affects to his body from the injuries he had sustained and miraculously recovered from on the same day. Professor Nara still doubted his own readings and decided to continue monitoring Sasori to see if there were any abnormalities with his body, but his readings kept coming back crystal clear which worried him.

He was tempted to dive further into his own spell and use it to it's full power, but he had not yet mastered it and decided to just continue with it at it's current level. Once Sasori was done with the professor he would head to the dormitory of all placing and meet with Mrs Ferg. He didn't understand why he would have to do such a thing but followed along with the routine.

Mrs Ferg would make idle talk with Sasori but never went back to a previous topic. She would always change topics after 5 minutes and even if I wanted to add something to the conversation she would ignore my words and continue on talking. They would talk for half an hour everyday and then Sasori would return to his room or one of the Basics of Magic classes which he enjoyed.

He was banned from joining in the hand-to-hand combat class under the pretext that is was for health reasons when in fact the professor's were worried that he may go on another rampage against a student and that if it was someone weaker then Jacob or Nobuhle they could get seriously hurt if Professor O'Brien didn't intervene immediately. He could have done so but he then wouldn't be able to teach the rest of the class properly as he would be keeping an eye on Sasori.

While in his room Sasori would lie on his bed and stare at his ceiling. It wasn't very impressive, it was just plain white, but Sasori could almost see the mana dripping from it. The entire room was encased in mana and Sasori had been seeing the mana as of late. It started once he got back from the Infirmary but couldn't figure out why it had only started then and not sooner. He tried asking the professors for some answers, but they brushed it off and said he must have been dehydrated and hallucinating.

When he went to Mrs Ferg after his routine check-up he decided to ask her for some advice. "Sorry to interrupt you Mrs Ferg, but could you help me with something?" Mrs Ferg had been rambling on about some great knight from the past who she could have sworn she had seen at the market the previous week, but once she heard Sasori's words she stopped and looked at him.

"Go ahead young one. What problem do you have that I can help with?" Sasori almost choked on his own saliva when he heard those words. He thought she would just ignore him again since she had done so in all the other conversations before. Sasori then looked at the clock and realised that five minutes had passed, and Mrs Ferg was just switching topics again.

He sighed, "I have been seeing weird things lately. Like when I am in my bed lying down and I look at my ceiling I can see this greenish liquid that is sitting on the roof and then these droplets form and start to fall down and land on my bed and floor. Once one of them fell on me but I didn't feel anything touch me. My professors say I must drink more water as I am hallucinating, but I don't think I would be seeing the same hallucination repeatedly."

Mrs Ferg seemed to be in deep thought and then she stood up and walked towards the stairs. "Follow me young one." Sasori did as instructed and followed Mrs Ferg up the stairs and towards his room on the top floor. She didn't really walk the distance instead she floated just above the ground all the way up.

"That's cheating you know." Sasori said to her while catching his breath. Mrs Ferg had been going up the stairs so fast that Sasori had to jog and jump up the stairs to keep up with her. She chuckled to herself and continued on until they got to his room. Mrs Ferg disabled her spell and then landed gracefully on the ground in front of Sasori's door.

"Could you open it please." Sasori did as instructed and placed his hand on the handle. His rune tattoo lit up and the door unlocked. Sasori opened the door and let Mrs Ferg in first and then followed behind her while closing the door. "Now lie down on your bed and tell me what you see." Sasori lay down as instructed and stared at the ceiling.

"I can see the greenish liquid I was talking about earlier, but something seems different." Mrs Ferg nodded for him to continue. "There are waves in the liquid almost like a storm is coming. The waves are gathering in the centre of the room and are joining to create a whirlpool. The amount of liquid is getting greater then it was before."

Mrs Ferg smiled and thought to herself, 'This kid has great intuition. I wonder if it's because of his other half or if he is genuinely a genius. He is thinking this through logically. I wonder if he can come to the correct conclusion though.' Mrs Ferg nodded again for Sasori to continue with his explanation.

"The liquid is gathering in a very specific location though. It isn't really the centre of the room now that I look at it, but it is just off from it. The whirlpool is surrounding the thing it wishing to consume. No, it is surrounding the thing that is controlling it." Sasori sat up on his bed and looked at Mrs Ferg, "You are the one controlling the whirlpool."

"Correct. I didn't think you would be able to come to the right conclusion but how wrong was I. Now let me explain what you are seeing. You are seeing the mana that surrounds this room, my mana. My mana encases every room and that is why the amount of mana increased. It is because I was here and was sucking it back towards me."

"Now you mustn't tell anyone, and I mean anyone what I am about to tell you." Sasori nodded that he understood, and Mrs Ferg continued, "That is what makes a dorm master so strong. It's not their knowledge of magic but the amount of mana they are able to control at any given time. I give mana to this building everyday, and it accumulates. Now imagine how much mana is stored here if I have been giving it mana everyday for the amount of years I have been with this school."

Sasori tried to think about the sheer amount of mana, but he couldn't fathom it. If what Mrs Ferg was telling was true then with this building she would be the strongest mage alive. "Now enough about that, let's get back to why you can see the mana. You have very special eyes that not mana people have and that is why your professors are calling you out for it. Professor Nara has these eyes as well but chooses to keep it a secret and goes along with what the other professors say."

"I must warn you though. If you choose to use these eyes and let people be aware of them then be prepared for some people to come after you. There is always a mad scientist looking for a new project and in your case it would be a serious catch." Sasori gulped down his saliva and began to think about what he should do with such a secret.
