"Why though? Why did you have to kill him for no reason?" Christopher asked as he couldn't believe that he had just watched a seemingly innocent man get killed within a couple of minutes.
"What do you mean why? You were the one that asked to be a villain. This is what villains do on a regular basis. Do you think we just do common crimes like robbing gas stations then live happily? There's a lot you don't know about the world in which villains work," said one of the comrades of Jelal who was keeping a watch of Christopher.
Speaking of Jelal, due to him finishing the job that he was supposed to do. He began to calmly walk outside of the demolished store with a rather calm expression as if he had just done a mundane task in his checklist and planned to do many more atrocious things.
"Wait I have a question," said Christopher as he tried to act brave and accept villains for what they were but still wondering something important.
"Ya? Don't tell me it's about going back to the mansion and getting some rest. If you can't handle simple murder, you've got a long way to go before you could actually become a villain. I mean seriously, this isn't even you doing the act, you're just watching from the sidelines while I do all the dirty work," said Jelal which almost made his comrade laugh as he had just seen Christopher's reaction just a moment ago.
"No it's not that. I'm wondering how you're going to be getting out of this situation. I mean aren't heroes going to quickly rush here and try to capture you? After all, you've just committed one of the worst actions in this world," said Christopher out of curiosity as he wanted to know exactly how Jelal and his team managed to escape without any repercussions time after time even though their actions were said to be punishable by death.
"Oh that? I guess you wouldn't know about it since the hero society wouldn't want you to learn about something so deplorable. You see, heroes are pretty lazy. In most cases, they'll actually put some effort into catching the person who committed the crime. Like if it was a small-time robber that just stole from a bank, they'll catch him. But for people like us who are experienced in this type of business, it's almost guaranteed that they won't look for us. We leave a couple of traces to us when we commit a crime. However it's on purpose since we mix it in with a little bit of fake clues as well just to confuse the investigator. Up to this point, it just leads them to the wrong person and gets the wrong man captured. It's actually baffling just how many innocent people they've taken in just because we framed them," said Jelal, who at hearing those words blew Christopher's mind. Day by day, he was starting to understand how corrupt hero society really was. The most horrible part being that he was starting to make connections that he didn't realise before such as the fact that maybe the ranking system of heroes might have been rigged. Or at least to a certain extent which was why he wanted to ask Jelal about it.
"Okay wait, let's get out of this place or we'll actually get caught," said Jelal as he began to use his ice powers to fly in the air while Christopher followed by using his very own fire powers as they flew in the sky from the scene of the crime.
"Sorry Jelal but I have another question," said Christopher as he needed to get more answers so that he could learn about the true world of heroes.
"Sure. Go right ahead. I'll try to answer any of your questions to the best of my abilities," said Jelal as the group continued to fly.
"Well I was wondering about the yearly ranking system of heroes. Is that list rigged and controlled so some people are placed higher than others?" said Christopher as he wanted to know if the yearly results were making his father second place year after year in purpose which would explain why Crimson didn't have to work any harder than he had the previous year yet he would end up in the number one spot each and every years. Of course Jelal answered Christopher's question as well as any other questions he had after that. Not because he cared about Christopher's knowledge or wanted to help him. It wasn't because of that at all.
To Jelal, Christopher was a product. Something to be controlled and manipulated to create the best possible product possible. As such, Jelal would be the manufacturer of the product and as such, it would be his responsibility to make sure that Christopher was the best possible villain he could be.
Jelal wasn't the type to look for potential. All he cared for was the strength someone had at the point he met them since he knew that he would either get them killed or kill them himself if they made him mad. However Christopher was a special case.
Christopher's potential utterly baffled Jelal. He couldn't believe that a single person could have so much going for them. That being that Christopher was a potential user of 2 or even more than 2 types of powers. The current confirmed ones being fire and magma. If there was even a single other one, Jelal would cut down anyone in his path to insure Christopher was taken care of.
The reason for all that hard work was because of a simple reason. The world of villains needed a new leader. Even if it was unconventional for that leader to be the son of the second greatest hero, as long as he had the power, the villains could rule the world. For once since the beginning of time, villains had a chance at changing the tides of control over the world. The key to that being Christopher himself. Slowly but surely, Christopher would become more corrupt to the point that the actions that Jelal committed would be nothing but child's play to him.
"As for your question about the yearly ranking system…."
