Jason and Haley had started battling. Percy watched with Misty and Ash on the sideline. Percy and Ash were chatting about how the battle might go.
"Pidgeotto has an incredible type advantage against Heracross, but Heracross is a significant higher level." Percy said. "Pidgeotto at this level don't normally have any good flying type moves though. Maybe it's only flying type move is Gust which surely isn't enough to defeat Herry." Ash reasoned. "Check her stats." Percy said. Ash pulled out his own Pokédex and looked at Pidgeottos stats.
His eyes widened in surprise as he saw her stats. She was now level 19 compared to before. "She has Brave Bird. Then this battle can go anyway. As long as Jason is a half decent battler he could win." Ash said. "I don't understand what's the big deal. Why can he beat Haley with a underleveled Pidgeotto." Misty questioned.
"Well this Pidgeotto has the move Brave Bird which is one of the strongest flying moves there are. It's an Inherent Move as well only making it stronger. Pidgeotto will also only take half as much damage from Herrys strongest moves. Haley trains really hard with her Pokémon and both of Herrys Inherent Moves are almost at Expert rank.
After all my training with Pikachu we were only able to get Thunderbolt to Expert and we're not even close to getting Iron Tail to Expert." Ash explained. "But can't Pidgeotto just fly out of Herrys reach?" Misty asked. "Well Heracross have wings. They're not very good at using them but will be able to fly high enough. Normally they don't use them, but I've seen Haley train with flying. So it's possible that Herry might be able to fly well enough to attack Pidgeotto." Ash said.
"It's about a 60% percent chance that Jason wins. As long as he doesn't underestimate Herrys flying ability." Percy stood there admiring Ash's deduction skills. At the moment the battle was pretty even. Pidgeotto has hit Heracross once with Brave Bird but was also hit by Horn Attack.
"Do you guys know what we're doing at the Honey Gym in a week?" Percy asked Misty and Ash. "We were wondering what he wants too. I'll text him right now." Ash took out his Pokédex and texted Professor Oak asking him what he was assembling them for.
A few seconds later he got a response and showed it to Misty and Percy. 'Oh shit I forgot to tell you guys.' Percy frowned as he thought that the leading scientist of Kanto shouldn't be so scatterbrained. A minute later everybody got a message on their phone. 'You guys are going to take care of the Spinarack and Ariados problem in Route 1. You'll get a free item from the Honey Gym if you succeed.' The message confused Percy as according to the reports he's been hearing there are over 100 Spinarack snd Ariados. He didn't think that 15 16 year olds could wipe out a colony that sized. He imagined that the gym wanted to wipe it out as it was a risk to travelers. A Pokémon colony like Spinarack and Ariados would be aggressive and actively hunt.
They would pick off travelers and aggravate surrounding Pokémon. The reason the Spinarack have gotten so bold was that they had gotten a strong leader. The gym must've been worried that if the leader grows strong enough they might cause a Pokémon wave. A Pokémon wave is when a large amount of Pokémon in the surrounding area attack human settlements at once.
This usually happens when a Pokémon is strong enough to scare the Pokémon into attacking humans. Sometimes a Pokémon with a mind controlling ability would cause all Pokémon to get agitated and therefore attack things they wouldn't usually. Psychic Pokémon are a big reason for these kinds of waves.
There are also cases where a Pokémon that is charismatic enough would rally Pokémon to attack. There have been reports of farm houses being completely destroyed and entire barns full of livestock Pokemon disappearing. "Eeewww. Spinarack are those spider Pokémon right!" Misty asked Ash.
"Yeah. This mission is gonna be hard for you if you can't get over your fear of bugs." Ash said. He shook his head and turned to Percy. "We should bring more antidotes than normal." "Yeah that makes sense. I think I'll try and get a good flying Pokémon to have a good type advantage." Percy said.
The battle was reaching a climax as both of their Pokémon were severely injured. Herry was hit by Brave Bird again and Pidgeotto was hit by Horn Attack twice as well. Both of them would only be able go take one attack from the other. After a couple of minutes of back and forth Heracross hit Pidgeotto with a horn attack.
Pidgeotto fell to the ground unconscious. "Pidgeotto is unable to battle. Haley and Herry are the winners." Marcus announced. Jason looked disappointed but was rather happy he got that far. Haley jumped up and down congratulating Herry on another victory.
She called her back to her pokeball and walked to Jason. Jason called back Pidgeotto and turned to talk to Haley. Haley seemed to be giving Jason some advice. "Wait I thought Herry was a girl." Percy asked suddenly. "She is." Misty, Marcus, and Ash said in unison. Percy with a confused look greeted Jason who had just walked back to the group.
"Nice try man. Although I would've won in your situation." "I don't think you would've at all. Actually you should try battling her." Jason stated with a mischievous grin. "Ah I can't because I still have to go shopping for somethings. So I should really get going." Jason had an unimpressed face on. "It was nice meeting you guys. Do you want to exchange contact information?" Ash asked them.
They stopped arguing with each other and said "Sure". Everybody exchanged contact information and said their goodbyes. Percy and Jason parted from them and went to finish their shopping. "I forgot to get a whetstone for my hatchet. It's getting dull from me using it so much." Percy unconsciously flexed his right hand.
"Oh yeah did you see that the mission from Professor Oak is to take down the Spinarack and Ariados colony. I thought we could stop by the Pokemart to get more antidotes." Percy said. "Alright that sounds good. How the hell does he expect the Prodigies to take down a colony the size of that." It seemed like Jason was also keeping up with Route 1 news.
They walked to a weapon store and both got a whetstone for themselves. Then they went to the Pokemart to get themselves more antidotes. Percy didn't want to run out of antidotes so he thought it was better to be safe than sorry. They returned back to the hotel room and sat on the living room couch. Percy turned on the tv and switched the channel to a news broadcaster.
They watched the news for a bit until something interesting came up. 'Professor Oak, the leading scientist of the Kanto region has announced that he has personally added two more people to the Prodigy Program. We have so far only been able to get their names and are unable to find what they look like.
Jason and Percy are the new Prodigies Professor Oak has added. After learning of this news the Arcanine, Jenny, and Joy clans have protested against the decision. The Professor seems to show no regret and his standing confidently with his decision. If anybody has a picture of the two boys please contact us and you will be awarded.' She reached to her ear as if talking to somebody. 'It seems we already have a picture of the Prodigies. Here it is.' A picture of Percy, Jason and the other Prodigies came up on the screen.
It was from when they first met. People normally take pictures of any Prodigy as they were celebrities. "Shit I look good." Percy gloated. Percy did in fact look good in this picture he was smiling and shaking hands with Ash. Meanwhile Jason looked awkward and uncomfortable. "That's just a lucky picture. I would've looked a lot better if the picture wasn't so bad." Jason defensively said.
Percy side eyed Jason and shook his head in pity. "I believe you man." Jason looked at Percy and stood up from the couch and walked into his room. Percy smiled and continued to watch the Honey City news. There was a national channel but they would broadcast more general news which wasn't exactly what Percy wanted. About 10 minutes later Jason walked out of his room with a smug smile on his face. He sat back down on the couch and glanced at Percy with pity. A few seconds later the news person said 'We have a new picture that was submitted and here it is.' A picture of Jason came up.
Percys jaw dropped when he saw it. 'So shameless.' Percy thought. Jason was thoroughly dressed up wearing a blue suit and black shoes. His hair looked good and there was incredibly good lighting in the picture. His hair was messy but in an extremely stylish way. He was leaning against a glass window with one hand in his pocket and the other above his head supporting his weight against the window.
Jason looked through the window at something beyond. "How the hell did you change your clothes that fast." Percy asked incredulously. Percy stood up and entered his room. Jason smiled and looked back at the tv admiring himself. About 5 minutes later Percy left his room with a smug smile on.
He glanced at Jason and shook his head in pity. Percy sat back down on the couch and leaned back casually. They sat in silence and watched the news channel. A minute later the news person stopped again and showed a new picture. It was Percy standing in his own window.
He had on a dark blue suit he had taken from his adoptive fathers wardrobe. The sun was just setting so a golden light bathed Percys room and face. He stood looking into the distance with both his hands in his pockets. A solemn look could be seen on his face as though the world was ending on the other side of the window.
Percy looked toward Jason. He tilted his head up and looked down his nose, "I won." He concluded. Jason looked at the tv before standing up "I'm going to bed. I need to do some stuff tomorrow." He walked into his room and slammed his door. It was undeniable that Percy won.
By no means was Jason's picture bad, if anything it could be considered modeling level. But Percys picture looked like it had more depth and the golden hue of the sun complemented his brown skin and brown hair. Percy chuckled and looked toward Jason's room. His Pokédex vibrated and he picked it up.
It was a message from Professor Oak, Ash, and his father. Percy checked his fathers message first and saw 'Is that my suit?' Percy immediately closed the message and opened Professor Oaks. 'I didn't want your guy's first impressions to the public be so terrible. Now I got even more people on my ass about supporting narcissistic assholes.'
Percy responded with 'Jason started it.' He nodded and checked Ash's message. 'What the hell is this.' And a picture of Ash and a girl taking a selfie in front of a tv with Percys picture on it. The girl was holding a peace sign and Ash made an exhausted face. Percy didn't recognize the girl although she did look a little familiar. 'I look better than Jason right?' Percy responded. He turned off the tv and walked back to his room. He let Crash out of his pokeball and flopped onto his bed. He let out a sigh and opened his Pokédex.
He scrolled through the news and couldn't find anything interesting. Then he checked the map of Route 1. He was looking for interesting Pokémon around Honey City as he planned on spending the rest of his time power leveling his Pokémon for the Spinarack raid. He was going to try and find a rare Pokémon in Route 1.
There weren't a lot of Pokémon near the city but Percy could see that there were a few interesting Pokémon. Recently people have seen a group of Pikachu and Pinsir near the city. Although these Pokémon aren't the most rare things in the world they weren't relatively common. Percy would like to get a Pikachu for some strong ranged attacks on his team.
Although Crash had the Scald move special attack wasn't his thing and wouldn't do too much damage. Pharaoh had a strong special attack move but other wise wasn't the best at special attacking. An electric type like Pikachu would do much better against flying Pokémon. Although it was only 7 pm Percy was going to go to bed as he wanted an early start tomorrow.
Percy let Crash out of his pokeball and set an alarm for 5 in the morning. He cuddled with Crash until he fell asleep.
