Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Affinity Test

Kain had been waiting for this day ever since he was reborn into this world 10 years ago.

Unlike in his original world, in this world, a select number of individuals could awaken an affinity for and bind with certain spiritual creatures.

Today is the day he would find out if he had what it takes to become a beast tamer. Otherwise, he'd have to be satisfied with a life of mediocrity as an ordinary person.

'There's no way,' Kain thought. 'There's no way I'd be brought to this world, bound to a system, and not have any affinity.'

'If anything, as a transmigrator I should have an epic affinity like to dragons, or an epic elemental affinity like space or time.'

'Hey System! Is there anything you can tell me?'

'…'

Unfortunately, the system was silent as always. He wouldn't even know it existed if it didn't announce its existence when he first woke up in this body. The only remaining evidence of its existence being a glowing egg floating in space that he could see whenever he closed his eyes.

'Hopefully, you activate once the affinity ceremony is over with.'

With that thought, Kain moved forward even more anxiously with the long line of other high school seniors.

Looking around, some, like his best friend Bridge, looked like they would faint from the nervousness, while others, the legacies, appeared calm.

The ability to bind spiritual creatures is partially hereditary. Since the legacies' parents were all beast tamers, they should also awaken an affinity, even if the quality is poor.

Kain and Bridge on the other hand live together in the local orphanage. Whether either of them has even one parent with an affinity is a complete mystery.

In fact, Bridge doesn't even know his real name, only named as such because that's where the orphanage director found him.

"Bridge, can you stop panting like a god damned dog! We haven't even walked that far!" Kain was finally fed up with trying to tune out the heavy breathing of the large baby-faced boy next to him.

"I can't help it Kain, what if I don't have any affinity? My grades aren't as good as yours, so I can't try to enter a college through an academic major and once we turn 18, the orphanage director might kick us out" Bridge looked at Kain with tears pooling in his eyes.

Kain's heart immediately softened. After all, they were each other's closest thing to family. "Really, how can someone with the body of a football player like you, be such a crybaby? I'm sure you'll have an affinity. Probably not as cool as mine, but you definitely will!"

Bridge looked a little comforted by Kain's word. Despite being the same age, Kain had always seemed like a reliable older brother and he's never steered him wrong before.

"What's football? You always say the strangest things. Do you really not remember anything before you entered the orphanage 10 years ago?"

"Nope. Nothing." They continued walking forward in silence.

Finally, they entered the doors of a large building similar to a cathedral, with intricate carvings of creatures similar to what existed on Earth, and completely new ones, all over the stone exterior.

Above, there was a glass ceiling, allowing the starlight to come down and touch the figures of all the seated children.
