Afraid that the werewolf king would take revenge on them for the assassination attempt on him.The elders of Alkal had called a meeting to find a solution to the pending doom. During the meeting, the Werewolf king barged in and demanded they let him take Ophelia as his bride. That was just the solution they needed and the king had suggested it himself so they were happy to oblige. No one thought carefully as to why the Alpha king of a faraway kingdom would know of a young woman called Ophelia. Many years later, when they realised that they had been played, it was too late to change things. Chapter 1 - THE FEAST OF ORACLES

The little town of Alkal located at the extreme end of the human civilization is said to be the boundary between the Human communities and the werewolf communities. You could often hear people of other towns telling their little kids the story of how the moon goddess, Selene, created the little town Alkal in order to create a neutral ground for both the human race and the werewolves and it was because of this benevolent act that the two civilization maintain peace. Well that's to the public. This little town has another story which is the true one: It is that the people of the town were banished from the Human civilization for having some kind of curse which makes them able to do things humans were not supposed to be able to. They could endanger the human race so they were banished here to become preys for the werewolves whenever they went on their savage rampage.

For many years, the people of Alkal were truly the preys of these dominants until a few years ago when the dominants lost their king to the preys they had dominated for years. Ever since then they had lived in an unnerving peace. It could really have being a bliss for the people of Alkal but they had lost almost all of their most powerful elders to this revolt and the two surviving elders had become useless. They were always on their toes as they couldn't predict when these werewolves would decide to go on a rampage to avenge their dead king.

Today being the 24th day of the second month of the year, the people of Alkal usually celebrate the Feast of Oracle. This feast is a way of cleansing the town and making peace with the gods by offering two criminals to them (It is an open secret though that the prisoners were to be offered to the werewolves). This particular celebration seems to be more joyous than the previous ones because unlike other times, there will be no offerings. The people of Alkal were truly happy this time.

The little children who were usually exempted can be seen everywhere. Today, there were no restrictions on their special abilities. They could show off to their friends. Some were flying, whizzing in the air like dragonflies, some were conjuring objects, some could be seen reflecting light or displaying fire on their palms. Everywhere was filled with excitement as even the adults could not stop themselves from showing off some new skills that had recently mastered.

" Ahhhhhhh" a loud scream penetrated the whole place and their was a uniformed silence. Everyone turned in the direction of the voice. A young woman, about nineteen years old, came over to the girl that screamed. "Sirens, you know you didn't have to scream right? A little sush of yours is enough to keep your group quiet. How can you have the temper to even scream! Do you want to kill us all?" Even though she sounded tough, everyone could sense the glee in her voice as if she was enjoying the commotion. She is Parteia the beloved angel of Alkal. Beautiful, intelligent, talented and social. She was a child everyone considered blessed by the gods. She had once saved a few villages from a salvage beast, Tagero by lulling it to sleep with her hand movements.

"Parteia, I saw Ophelia just now she changed skin again" said Siren with indignation.

" She did? well it's not wrong for her to. Everyone was permitted to use their special abilities and she couldn't possibly restrain herself" answered Parteia.

"But her eyes were too bright! She could have blinded me."

"Oh common get over it"

By now everywhere is again rowdy. The crowd was and the new topic for discussion was the talentless Ophelia whose body could only radiate light. "what sort of a talent is that? And she is even showcasing it. How shameful"

These was gossip everywhere and once in a while you could here mocking laughter coming from small groups.
