On the day after, the four of us were already headed to the location provided in the flyer. We were carrying nothing on us but sheer confidence and the bright-eyed hope of youth. Well, I did bring a small purse with me, and it was slung on my shoulder. It had the registration fee on it; most of the amount came from my little savings, while Niko and Ivan pitched in some of theirs.
The bustling city streets stretched out before us, with businessmen, merchants and aristocrats scattered in an array of tailored suits and a flurry of day dresses. Ivory-colored buildings lined up on our sides, each one seemingly competing with the other on which of them was taller. Above, the sun was a radiant ball amidst a clear blue sky, with the occasional clouds drifting past to bring some shade.
This morning, my friends and I met at our usual spot by the bank. Even though the weather was warm, Niko had given me a cloak to wear.
