It was our turn to wait for Ivan and Mel, which we'd agreed to do right outside the back gates. But before heading there I pulled on Niko's sleeve, causing him to stop on his tracks.
He turned to me. "What is it, Lily?"
"Since they're going to see me later, we're going to have to tell the knights that I'm your friend—like Mel and Ivan. To avoid further complications and more questions. Because, honestly, I'm tired of questions. And as a boy, I shouldn't be wearing this." I motioned to my dress, pursing my lips. "So I was thinking . . . maybe I can borrow some of your clothes?"
He nodded firmly. "Of course, that's not a problem." Then he threw his head to the direction of the knights' quarters. "Come with me."
We snuck around the training grounds, to avoid being seen. Tip-toeing our way to the second floor of the apartment-like building, where the captain of the knights and his family lived.
