The captain's hair was like fine strands of glimmering silk threads underneath the shine of the sun as he watched us walking toward him, his eyes examining us from where he stood. And although his face was unreadable, he didn't look mad.
Mako had told him of our reasons for asking to train here, and the captain had nodded. We were in the part where we had to wait for his opinion, and honestly, every second of it was unbearable. It seemed as though the captain was the mysterious and secretive type, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking of. He looked every inch how Niko would look like when he'd become an adult, at least from how I saw it.
I could sense the anxiousness wafting from my friends—another reason why it was hard to remain calm. The uncertainty on Niko's features was making me nervous, as well. Among us, he was the one who knew his father most, but it seemed as if he was as unsure as the rest of us.
