"Isis…" he said, dropping the knife on the counter while picking out a reddish swiss wine.
"When are you ever going to use the door like a civil organism that you are,"
"You are losing your touch little brother," Isis appeared on the living room couch spot a black leather jacket and black jeans with combat boots.
"It's called invasion of privacy but you obviously skipped that part now didn't you?," Hakeem chuckled a bit as he took two wine glasses by their necks on the rack and dropped it on the center glass piece sculpture made of mermaids holding up Captain America's shield all in pure transparent glass.
"Since when did I need permission to see my little brother?" Isis turned to look at him.
"All call would have sufficed though, and how did you know I moved to your city and where exactly I moved to?,"
"Are you keeping tabs on me like Dad?," Hakeem asked, pouring wine into both glasses.
"No and yes, I got to keep an eye on you to protect you from Dad, You are his last redemption, heir to his throne, and the one to continue his ruthless legacy," Isis explained to him.
"I know and the sad news is I don't bloody care, he can go burn on a stake for all I care, I will never forgive him for what he did to you and mom," Hakeem said, in a low voice.
"But I have a very serious question to ask you Hakeem and I want you to answer me as honestly as possible?" Isis said with all seriousness.
"Seriously??," she pointed at the TV which was showing 13 reasons why.
"Whatttt"
"It's educational with a great storyline, come on," Hakeem said, laughing at his sister's exaggerated expression.
"It's sappy and you know it, I always knew you had a soft heart, you just liked keeping the mysterious air around you as a facade," Isis said, nodding his shoulder as she took a sip of her wine.
"Damn that's one dry ass of a wine," Isis said, chuckling.
"It's so good," Hakeem finished his first glass.
"You are addicted and you need help," Isis laughed watching him pour another glass for himself while she was nowhere near a quarter of hers.
"And you have to tell me why you are really here," Hakeem deadpanned.
"Hey what do you mean by that, are you trying to say I can't come check up on my beloved brother again, I see as you age, you become more mean and blunt," Isis whined looking away.
"You gonna tell me why you are here or not Isis?" Hakeem asked with a straight face and no hint of joke on his face or in his tone.
"Ok then…"
"Me and Stella are expecting a baby," Isis spilled the beans, watching Hakeem carefully as he slowly started digesting the information as the look of confusion suddenly appeared on his face. Isis was banished from their home when she was nineteen and told her father that she liked women and was going to marry a woman, normally, sexuality really wasn't a problem in our world, men married men and women married women but our father was a strict asshole, she got banished from home and he left home too on the run a year later, he attended the little wedding that she and Stella did in the night, it was a pretty fairy teamed wedding and it was beautiful, his sister was happy and that was all that mattered to him. But what he didn't understand was how she or Stella got pregnant, women didn't have self-impregnating organs.
"Wait, so you are pregnant??," Hakeem asked in confusion.
"Nooo, Stella is."
"She's carrying our baby and turns out we are having twins," Isis said, beaming from ear to ear. She was clearly happy and that made him happy too.
"But wait a sec Isis, you guys are going to be having a human baby?" Hakeem asked, looking at her carefully, this was something he never thought of, if she carried the babies, they will probably become vampires but if Stella had the kids they will end up as humans.
"You are cool with having human kids??," Hakeem asked, studying her vehemently.
"At first, I wanted to be selfish and choose to have the kids so that they can be vampires but then, I don't want them to have this kind of life we are living, I want them to be normal humans, even though Stella said she didn't mind, I just couldn't do it, I'm my father's daughter, if he knows that I'm having kids, he's going to take them from me because they will be pure breeds of original blood," Isis sighed. She had thought through the whole thing, this was the only way in which she and Stella could be happy without any intervention from a family.
"Well I'm happy for you, and I support you fully, if you need any help any time just call me, I will be there to help you alright," Hakeem said, touching her hands. She hugged him in return whispering a thank you. If there was anything he loved most about his sister was that she was a strong woman and couldn't easily be shaken by any circumstances, she got banished and cut off and look at her now, making a life for herself and having a family soon, he was proud and jealous of her at the same time.
"So what about you, why the sudden move from Pennsylvania to New jersey?,"
Isis asked.
"I got bored as usual and I got a new job too or rather an interview with a huge band."
"Really??"
That's great, what band?," Isis asked.
"The Hallows," Hakeem said.
"Whatttt!!!!!" Isis screamed,it was so piercing he was sure his eardrum was bleeding.
"Chill the fuck out please," Hakeem said.
"Wait, you got a gig with the Hallows, like the band that just performed their last tour concert here in New jersey??," Isis questioned with wide eyes.
"Yeah…" Hakeem answered slowly.
"You know them??," He asked.
"I know them???"
"I fucking breath the Hallows, they are like the Beatles rendition come on, you haven't heard about them, yet you got a job with them, wait what are you even doing for them?" Isis asked, thinking what exactly those her brother has to offer.
"I'm drumming, their ex drummer got married and left the band." Hakeem waved her off.
"Look you should start heading out, it is getting late and I need to sleep, my interview is tomorrow," Hakeem said, yawning.
"Keep me posted alright," Isis resigned.
"Alright bye, drive safe," Hakeem said, kissing her on the cheeks.
"Yeah, I like what you have done with the place you know, it gives happy vibes," Isis served her last sarcastic comment.
