Kane's eyes opened, but that didn't help him at all, it was pitch black around him. He got his bearings and noticed the tingling was weaker now. He took some time to think about what had just happened.
'This isn't possible, I don't even know where I am'
Kane felt the floor, but for some reason, there was not texture to it. He felt as if he were standing on air. Kane stood up, swaying slightly as he prepared himself to take a step forward. When he did walk forward, his foot did find a hold, and he put his weight on it, feeling relieved.
"hello?"
Kane yelled into the darkness, but the darkness did not respond. He expected as much, so he didn't feel at all surprised. Starting to walk again, he looked around. There was nothing around him, so maybe it was a dream? Kane pinched himself, feeling a dull pain, but not enough to tell if the pain was real. Kane went to a higher extreme and punched himself in the face.
"Ow! Why did I do that!?"
Kane stared at the cyan square displaying those letters and thought he had developed schizophrenia.
'Maybe the fall gave me a concussion'
Kane didn't believe it to be real, but reached his hand out to touch the blue message. When his finger met the letters, the screen expanded. Kane quickly retracted his finger and read the new 'pop-up'.

Kane was obviously confused, this screen looked like it was a video game. If it was a video game, then where is the quest list?

A screen immediately popped up in front of him, showing even more information

Kane continued to stare, thinking this hallucination was very realistic, yet, they usually are. Newfound abilities? if this was real that would be accurate.
'The darkness? Is that... Is that what this place is called? No, it must be mostly from my knowledge.'
Kane began to believe this to be real, however unusual. As he kept walking, he saw his daily quest reach half completion

Soon, a light could be seen in the distance, and Kane was cautiously excited. He started to walk faster in the direction of the blinding light. When he got closer, his eyes adjusted to the brightness and he saw that there was a door emitting the glow. Kane ran up to it and touched the handle. It was warm, as if the glow itself belonged to the sun. He opened the door and saw the hallway he entered through.
Kane smiled and closed the door, running down the stairs. He saw his parents waiting for him on the couch.
"we decided to pack your stuff up while you were in your room!"
His parents spoke to him with a smile. Kane walked to them and gave them a hug, one after another. Deciding to not tell his parents about the hallucination, he spoke.
"how long was I in my room?"
His parents seemed confused by the question, but answered.
"Eight hours?"
Kane's eyes quickly widened. 'Eight hours!?' Yelling mentally, Kane forced his facial expression back to normal.
"Sorry, I must've fallen asleep. Thank you for packing my Stuff, I guess its time to leave now huh?"
Kane's parents smiled at him. "Yes" Kane's mother choked out that word, holding back tears as she said her goodbyes.
After Kane had said goodbye to his parents, he checked his haul and got in the truck. It was time to move. Starting the truck, Kane pulled the truck from the driveway and started driving away.
Kane decided to check his 'quests'. When Kane thought about his quests, they appeared.

Kane was shocked to say the least. Why hadn't he escaped the Darkness yet? Kane moved the menu with his mind panicking. He left the side of the road and started riding down the street, getting close to his new home. Kane had been travelling for an hour, so when did the darkness end??
Glancing at the quest while he drove, he saw the percentage progressing upwards slowly. His speed slightly increased as the tension grew.

Kane was confused, so he just kept driving, still panicked. He worked to calm down, and did so enough to focus on the road.

Kane was focused on the road fully now, slowly forgetting about the quest, while the window stayed open to his right, not seen by him.

Kane watched as he passed gas stations and stores boasting magical products. Some including a flying ball imbued with levitation abilities, or a self correcting golf club. Kane felt jealous in the past of everyone who had the ability to imbue or do anything with magic. That was because he was one of the few who didn't have those abilities. But now he thought maybe he had been granted some.
Kane glanced at the quest screen with a smile, just in time to see it reach 100% as the sun rose in the horizon.
