Kane entered his room with a smile, looking around and enjoying the apartment, he was exceptionally satisfied. The dorm Kane was in was mostly empty, except for some appliances like a stove and a microwave, but it was very spacious. It seemed that the area had about 1200 square feet in living space, and a artificial sun roof made with light magic.
Kane began to walk around the apartment, testing the water pressure and heating efficiency. When he tested how hot the water could get, he almost burnt his hand immediately.
Luckily Kane was able to pull his hand away and turn off the faucet, stopping the flow of water and warmth.
When he was satisfied, Kane plugged in his phone and opened his laptop, logging himself into the school forum with his student ID. There was some interesting news, including one thing that caught Kane's eye.
!!Beast training hall open on campus, located to the right of the main gate!!
Red words which stood out from the rest of the announcements made Kane read it entirely, grinning as he did so.
'This is a perfect opportunity to level up! I've got to go there right now!'
The training hall was also a complementary service, meaning students didn't have to pay in order to use it. Kane left the middle class dormitory building while taking out his phone and swiping two numbers off of the screen.
These numbers were the dorms he would have had if he was in low or high class buildings. Since Kane had been chosen as middle class, he selected the 69 as the dorm he would occupy.
Kane still felt exhausted after the test, but he was too excited to care, which hopefully wouldn't screw him over when he went to train. There was still multiple people taking their tests, which meant a crowd all around Kane.
Being barely able to see was annoying, but not impossible to deal with. Kane focused on the training hall, which wasn't far from him, and continued forward, interrupting the path of a few people who muttered angry words at him.
When Kane finally reached the training hall, he noticed it was nowhere near as popular as it should have been. "Probably because of all the arrogant bastards that think they are so much better than everyone else" Kane thought, holding a sour expression until he regained his composure. He was an emotional person, sensitive to violence and sorrow.
Many people around him were always able to steel themselves and keep straight faces in times of pressure, but not him.
Kane had no control over his tears, and easily gave in to hatred, it was one of the reasons that he doubted Peter so thoroughly. He is not able to trust someone immediately, especially when they have little reason to show him kindness.
Kane fully shook away his distrust and put on a smile, grasping the silver handle of the training hall door.
When he stepped inside, Kane grimaced from the bright lights inside. When he was adjusted, he walked forward to a receptionist who was writing on a piece of paper.
"Uhm hello, I want to train against a beast?"
The woman nodded as she realized Kane was a first timer, which was to be expected. "ID?" Kane immediately fished his ID out of his pockets, not wanting to waste the receptionist' time. The area was lacking in people, probably because school had barely started.
Feeling a sense of guilt, he put his ID on the desk, wondering what was behind the two doors that were on each side of the table. The woman grabbed his identification and read through it, typing on a computer beside her as she read through it. She then handed Kane's card back to him, and motioned to the door. "It's free for students, head inside there and show the instructor your ID, he will bring you to the proper cage."
Kane smiled at the woman and walked to the door that she had motioned to, opening the door and stepping inside.
As the woman had said, there was a man who awaited Kane through the door. The man silently greeted him and motioned for Kane to follow him. Kane did so, and walked with the instructor to a large iron cage, which looked like a prison cell, which makes sense because beasts are very powerful. However, a D+ Grade beast is barely strong enough to dent iron bars in Kane's experience, so he felt slightly puzzled.
The man handed Kane a key to leave the cage when he was done, and opened the door to the empty jail structure.
Kane walked inside, putting the key in his pocket and preparing himself, thinking this was all happening pretty fast. When he stepped inside, the man closed the door behind him, automatically locking it before pressing a cyan button and walking away, giving zero fucks about Kane's safety.
Preparing himself, Kane watched the ceiling open 20ft away from him on the other side of the cage, causing an animal to jump down, snarling at Kane. Quickly grabbing a weapon from beside him, Kane ran towards the beast, preparing to fight the 4 ft tall lion with unusual mutations. The mutations involved magical horns that held a turquoise hue, seeming to pulsate with mana, and pure black eyes.
Kane guessed that the lion had weak magical attacks, originating from its sharp horns. "I'll target the horns, hopefully I can disarm it." With that thought, Kane readied his short sword, preparing to strike the beast, knowing the neck would be reinforced, as is commonplace for feline magical beasts, even low levelled ones such as this.
The lion started to run towards Kane, its horns beginning to glow as it prepared an attack. Kane tried to give it no time as he swung the sword forward, causing it to come in contact with the horns. For a moment, it appeared that his sword was cutting through. Suddenly however, the sword was violently thrust backwards, being ripped from Kane's hands. "what!?" Kane had not expected for the feline to have such high defensive capabilities, and was thrown backwards, hitting the ground with a painful thud.
Grimacing, he stood up, prepared to again attack the animal. He guessed that the beast had been charging up a defensive ability, other than a offensive one as Kane had believed the animal would use. Steeling himself, Kane dashed forward towards the beast, ready to kill it this time.
