Chereads / The Gifted Warrior / Chapter 5 - Orientation

Chapter 5 - Orientation

Kane reached the door to the main building quickly, but the Orientation was in one minute. He ran inside, surpassing multiple different people who were also in a hurry and reached the door.

A man stopped Kane and asked for his ID, Kane quickly pulled it out and showed it to the man. Entering the auditorium, he searched for a seat, seeing an open one, he walked straight to it.

Kane sat down and looked to his left. A girl was chatting with her friends while waiting for orientation to start, their conversation was so loud they didn't even notice Kane. That was fine by him.

Making himself comfortable, Kane looked towards the stage as the lights dimmed to focus on it. A middle aged man walked up to the front of the stage and started speaking.

"Hel-" Buzzzzz! A loud ringing erupted from the speakers as almost everyone, including Kane, covered their ears. Taking a small step back, the man spoke again. "That was a good way to get your attention huh?" The man chuckled and continued. "Hello! My name is Tiel Sanson, and I am your principal!" The mans cheery nature would have been contagious... if he wasn't so old.

Kane still listened closely, making sure not to miss a single word the principal said. If he missed even a little bit he wouldn't know how the school worked. The principal started explaining how classes would work and said that an instructor would give each class more in depth information. This was because everyone would be separated into different classes to match every persons 'Aptitude'. That was just a different way to say usefulness.

The less powerful students would get less materials, while the stronger ones would have an advantage. Of course, the principle didn't say that precisely, but people could read between the lines well enough.

Soon the orientation speech ended, and people were instructed to go to the testing building to see how powerful people were. With that note, everyone stood up and started to flood towards the exits.

There were only three doors to allow a few hundred people through. The more powerful people pushed through the crowd and reached the exists faster. The weaker people were left to be at the back of the crowd. Kane was at the middle of the crowd, patiently waiting to leave the building.

Kane finally made it outside and sat by a nearby tree, the wait time would be long, he didn't want to stand there and wait for all that time. he saw a young man approach him, doing the same thing. The man smiled at Kane and spoke.

"Hello! what is your name?"

The guy was talkative, or at least it seemed so, as he hadn't even fully sat down before he spoke. "My name's Kane, what yours?" Kane smiled back and spoke, reciprocating the mans attitude.

"Peter! Are you waiting for the line to dwindle too?"

Kane nodded, thinking to himself, there was a chance he was just excited to get tested, but Kane felt more anxiety than he did joy. Maybe Peter was strong enough to not need to be afraid, the Kane couldn't be sure. Usually strong people were arrogant and condescending, but this guy was nothing like that. Kane's mind raced with why Peter wanted to talk to him, but really, Kane was just happy to have a friend.

"huh? Oh yes I am! I think its going to take a while" Kane gestured to the line that reached almost to the dormitory building. Peter then nodded and sighed in exasperation. "I think they could have a better system for this.." Peters words were a little less energetic now, but a hint of excitement still lingered in his voice.

The line had become smaller now, so both Kane and Peter stood up and walked to the back of it. The line would continue shortening, and people finally started coming out of the building, some people were punching the air with joy, some were slumped down like an overused backpack.

Kane's anxiety grew as he neared the entrance to the building and more people left, heading towards their respective dormitories. Finally the line was almost completely gone, and they were about to step into the building. Kane heard Peter breathing hard in excitement as they entered the building.
