"What are you doing, Korvin? Are you trying to drive my business into bankruptcy? Can't you work a single day without breaking any of my plates!?" There was a hoarse voice coming from the kitchen, which made many customers turn around to see what was going on behind the blue wood-framed glass door. "Remember that all of your salary this month has been expended to buy new plates. Do I make myself clear?"
Korvin walked out after throwing down his apron on the table. He found himself a seat and rubbed his head in distress. He completely ignored whatever Margareth - the shop owner - said.
Somehow, he had lost his focus on the job. Particularly after Grace left him alone in this town. Korvin thought of nothing but came after Grace by any means necessary.
Should he break his bank to see Grace? He really missed his sister.
"Korvy, are you alright?" Sam, his co-worker who had worked for Margareth longer than Korvin, tried to console him. He ignored Sam and just looked around him; at the customers that gave him a weird look. Needless to say, Korvin felt really uncomfortable.
"It's just the way they looked at me, it makes me sad. They won't even touch the coffee I have made for them. They might be afraid that their cup will shatter if they pick it up, Sam." Korvin grumbled.
Sam patted his friend's back as they saw a customer come in, they could hear the customer ring the bell as he opened the door. They were stupefied as they saw the customer in black tuxedo. He took a seat in the corner, Sam and Korvin looked closer at him; that gallant man wore an expensive wristwatch and luxurious shoes. Judging by his looks, he was probably a successful businessman, an entrepreneur, or the scion of a noble family.
"A guest is coming. Aren't you going to serve him, Korvy?" Sam asked. Korvin rolled his head.
"I would not dare to serve that wealthy young master lest I made another mistake, Sam. You should serve him instead. I will be leaving in a couple of minutes and heading toward college. Also, this might be my last few minutes here,"
"What are you talking about, Korvy? Are you leaving me here with that ill-tempered Margareth?" Sam did not want Korvy to leave. "Come on, Korvy. Don't take that ill-mannered old hag to your heart. She's just anxious about having no romantic partner. So stop being melancholic and come back to work tomorrow." Sam pleaded.
Korvin rolled his head, he patted Sam on the shoulder." No, partner. I can not work here any longer. I am not a charity owner that would give all of my salary this month to replace those old plates that I will definitely break even before I touched them. I need to eat, Sam, you know that. After Grace left me alone, I made ends meet and became a self sustaining person. I can't rely on anyone and I have no choice but to withdraw my parents' last savings."
Sam could not say anything after he heard what Korvin said. Sam gently patted his friend on the back.
"Well, if you manage to find a better job, please tell me about it, Korvy. Take me wherever you go."
Korvin nodded, folded his apron, and picked up his bag before parting. Before he got out of the cafe, he took a good look at the customer that was busy with his phone. That customer glanced back with a sharp look like an eagle's eye. Truly handsome and manly; as if he was a personification of a Greek god statue, incomparable to any human being on this planet.
Korvin smiled for a moment and walked out of the cafe. He walked along the street and attempted to call his sister despite knowing that his effort would be futile.
Korvin remained still, he let the streetlight change from green to red back to green. He sighed, his life was so hard after Grace left him. Yes, he missed Grace a lot, he missed being woken up to the scent of toast and egg that his sister made, he missed the warmth of a hot chocolate during the first day of snow in his city alongside many other beautiful memories.
Damn it! Korvin felt like a helpless young boy even after convincing himself many times that he was no longer a child anymore. Somehow what Grace said about him were still true until that moment.
Korvin resumed his pace and paused in front of a restaurant. Said restaurant hung a sign by the window. It was a job vacancy ad, for a meal delivery man. Korvin wasted no time and headed there right away. He talked to the manager and asked for an interview.
Moments later, Korvin now wore a different uniform. In his hands, he held two meal packages to be delivered. Korvin felt so happy to find a new job in such a short time. If he managed to find another vacancy, he would definitely tell Sam about it. Afterall, he had made a promise to take Sam to his new workplace. This was his third job after Grace left him.
Korvin was about to ride his motorbike to deliver some meals, when he suddenly saw the customer in his previous workplace. That man just suddenly appeared beside him as if he got something important to say.
Korvin got off his bike and stared at that man with a confused face.
"Pardon me, sir. Is there anything that I can help you with? Are you lost, or anything?" Korvin asked but that man did not answer. He just took a very close look at Korvin from head to toe.
"Are you Young Master Hester?" That man suddenly asked and it really surprised Korvin, he even flinched a little. How could he know about Korvin's surname? He really did not understand.
Korvin gulped and scratched his head despite not being itchy. He just nodded a little because he felt so weird to see someone that was practically a stranger yet know a thing or two about him.
"Yes, that is right. I am Korvin Hester. Do you know my parents?" Korvin finally asked. That man presented his hand and tried to smile a little. Korvin wiped his hand and shook that man's hand. Actually, he was very curious about the identity of the person before him.
"I am Sean, one of Mr. Nicholas Kyle subordinate for whom your sister works. I receive an order from your sister, Ms. Hester, to deliver several items and a message. Ms. Hester misses you so much, but she cannot come to see you at the moment. She got plenty of work on her hands right now so she could spare no time for you. You have to be very patient. Therefore, please leave a message for her to cheer her up a little, Young Master Hester,"
Korvin almost bursted into tears, he had no idea that this handsome man turned out to be Nicholas Kyle's subordinate. Korvin nodded passionately.
"Of course, sir. I will do anything you want!"
