'Where am I?' I asked myself
My eyelids felt heavy, but I managed to open them and sit up
I was in a room, but it was not one in a hospital; rather, it looked like someone's house
A quiet known came on the door and a woman entered the room
She looked like she was in her late fifties to early sixties
A bright, happy smile caressed her face when she saw me, "You're awake" she noted
"Hey" I greeted with a small smile of my own
Her smile was contagious
"How do you feel? There were no external injuries, and the scan came out okay" she said
I arched my eyebrow
"Why would I be injured?" I asked
She walked over and sat beside me
"Well, it is not a normal situation for a car to land out on the street from nowhere"
My memories crashed back into me. I gasped and then began to search my body frantically
"Do not bother, child. You will not find it no matter how much you search" she said
"Now, the doctor says you might seem fine but might experience mental trauma. What do you say?"
I searched for anything, but I found nothing wrong. Instead, for the first time in years, I felt like a child who had just woken up from a nap while being cuddled
"I feel... good?"
"That is good to know. I prepared a cup of hot chocolate for you. If you want to, there are some new sets of clothing in the bathroom. Freshen up and come down" she said
She got up and headed for the door
"You do not have anything to say about this?" I asked
She turned to me; the confusion was written on her face
"I went into an EF 3 tornado. Made a spiral with it. Got hit by a tree. I flew over who-knows-distance. And nothing is wrong with me?"
"Your car was also unscathed," she asked
"And that is normal?"
"What is your name, child?" she asked
"What?"
'How could she be asking for my name at this moment?'
"Your name. You know, the name you were given, before or after, you were born" she answered
"Raelyn" I answered
"Raelyn" she repeated and smiled
"Lovely name," she commented before leaving the room
A billion thoughts were crossing my mind as I freshened up, and it continued up until I opened the door
"Hurry up down, child"
I used the sound of the voice to find my way, but I almost tripped when I got to the living room
The house was occupied with people all looking at me. I was reminded of being swarmed by those bee-like reporters
"Oh, would you stop staring a hole into her beautiful face?" the familiar woman
"Come on down, dear," she said to me
As soon as my feet touched touch the ground, I was swarmed
"Are you okay?"
"How do you feel now?"
"Does your head hurt?"
"Do you feel like fainting?"
"Such a pitiful thing"
All sorts of questions and sentences were flung to me
"Uhm..." I was speechless
"For the love of Christ, give her a breathing space. Do you want her to faint again?"
As if someone had flipped a switch, they all stepped back
The woman led me to the other side of the room which was the
She sat me down in front of the counter separating the two rooms and handed me a cup of hot chocolate
I momentarily forgot that I do not take hot chocolate
"What is wrong, dear?" she asked
"I do not take hot chocolate" I answered
"Why not?" a lady from the living room asked
She looked around my age
I shrugged
"Okay then. More for me"
"I appreciate it..." I trailed off
"Call me Davina"
"Thank you, Davina," I smiled
"Do not be silly. Davina is just being Davina" a man said
"Tell us now. What exactly happened?" he asked
"I was caught up in the tornado. And somehow, I ended up here" I summarized
"Thank God for you. The Lord is good, is He not?" he asked
I managed a smile
"You do not think so?" the lady from before asked
"I am not a God-ish person," I said
"Why not?" she inquired
"Stop prodding her, Angel" Davina said
'Calm down, Realyn'
I carefully got up
"Thank you for your care, I will be going now"
"You wanna sleep now? Ain't it too early?" a man asked
He looked African American
"I meant I will be going back home"
I was not sure if he laughed loudly or if that was the standard pitch of his voice; nevertheless, I was irritated
"You hear her, D. She says she is going home. Funny child, ain't this one" he said
"I ain't think there was anything funny in what I said" I snapped
"There is not" a woman answered then turned to the annoying guy "Oh, come on, Aaron. Do not make fun of the poor child," she said to the man
She got up and came towards me
"Do not mind my husband, Raelyn. I am Sarah" she said
I wondered how she knew my name
"D already told us. Such a nice name you have"
"I love the meaning. Sheep's friend?" Davina commented
Years ago, I would have liked it, but I just wanted to change it right now. Which will be the first thing I do as soon as I get home
"What my husband," Sarah continued, "meant to tell you using his little shenanigans was that you cannot go home. At least, not right now,"
"What do you mean I cannot? I am sure I will be able to find my way with little directions"
Aaron started to laugh but stopped when his wife looked at him. I glared quietly at him
"You cannot. Your car is destroyed" he said
"What?"
"After you passed out, we rushed to bring you in, but by that time we went back out, it was battered" Angel replied
"What?!"
"Keep it down, girl. We are watching something over here" a female said
"And because we do not want you to strain yourself" a male beside her added
I ignored them
"Well then, I can just walk back home"
"Where do you live?" Davina asked
My reply made everyone turn their gaze back to me
"Wow" that all said
"The Lord is good," Angel said
"Hallelujah" everyone replied
"What?" I asked Davina
"Sweetie, you flew over 40 miles" she responded
"That is using your car as a reference" Angel added
My jaw opened
"So, unless you fight tornadoes for a living, because we do not know if there is going to be another storm, and you can walk for days..." Sarah started as she closed my jaw
"You might be here for a long time"
I was speechless
"Do not look as if staying here is the worst thing possible"
"Of course, not. I want to stay here forever" I said with a smile
They all laughed but I had no reason to
'I am stuck here'
