Chapter 21 - The released Hound dogs

Carmen sighed for the fifth time as he looked at Leon who had been sitting on his chair for the last twenty minutes, snickering at a joke that had never been said.

"What's so funny?" Carmen finally gave in to his curiosity and asked as he closed the book that he had been reading.

Leon looked to be completely absentminded as he didn't even hear this question.

Like a madman, the demon prince continued to snicker to himself without saying or doing anything else.

Carmen's eyes narrowed down on the man suspiciously and he changed his question as he asked, "Did you finally find a way to kill her or something?"

Suddenly, Leon's eyes lit up and he immediately looked at Carmen with a wicked smile as he spoke, "Carmen, I can finally get my revenge."

Carmen pursed his lips into a thin line as he heard this and although he doubted the possibility of the sentence that had been proudly spoken, he didn't bother voicing out his opinions that would only anger the demon prince.

"I knew it was a good idea to own hound dogs," Leon commented with a mischievous chuckle and Carmen could already guess what was going on inside Leon's head.

"You let the hound dogs loose?" Carmen asked with a bit of disbelief and the demon prince laughed even more.

"..." Carmen shook his head with a sigh as he once again opened his book and went back to reading.

He had a feeling that Leon wouldn't be laughing for too long but instead of voicing out his thoughts, he simply stayed quiet and let everything happen on its own. After all, a story was only enjoyable when you were watching it unfold from the sidelines.

"I thought, after stalking her for so long, you'd already know about her obsession with dogs," Carmen casually muttered under his breath.

Leon continued to be distracted as he thought about the amazing plan that he had created.

In the very next minute, there came three knocks on the door and what followed was the panicked voice of one of the maids.

"R-royal prince, there is bad news! The hound dogs! The hound dogs are on the loose."

Leon stopped laughing and smiled as he closed his eyes and nodded in satisfaction.

Carmen glanced at Leon and shook his head in disbelief before turning back to read the book that he was holding.

The maid outside seemed to be unaware of the fact that Leon was the one who had let the hound dogs loose.

"Did they bite someone?" Leon asked with a wide smile on his face and didn't even let the maid answer the question before he continued, "Did they rip her soul apart? Did they shred her to pieces that cannot even be deciphered as meat?"

"..." The maid was silent and Leon's smile slowly went down.

He immediately understood that there was something wrong.

"What happened?" Leon pursed his lips into a small frown as he questioned. His voice was heavy and authoritative which made the maid shiver in fear.

"A humble maid who had just recently joined us seems to have been attacked by them," The woman spoke and her voice sounded a bit hesitant.

Carmen's ears perked up as he heard this.

"And?" Leon raised his voice as his frown deepened and his eyebrows creased together.

"Another maid went in to help her. The situation is a bit urgent. You have to come."

Leon immediately stood up as he heard this and although he was the one who had let the hound dogs loose, he clearly didn't look to be too happy about it.

"I'm coming," Leon spoke as he walked over to the door and Carmen sighed as he finally closed his book and kept it neatly aside before standing up.

There was going to be a good show to watch and Carmen was definitely not going to miss it.

Leon opened the gate and looked down at the maid who had a bloodless face with a terrified expression plastered on it.

"Lead the way," It was Carmen who stepped in front of the man and spoke up with a small smile as he tried to make the maid feel a little less scared.

The maid gulped as she heard the man and immediately nodded her head as she turned around and started speed-walking.

Leon crossed his hands behind his back and followed after the maid with Carmen.

With every step he took, his uneasiness grew and he no longer knew if what he had was a brilliant idea or just a ridiculous one that was bound to cause trouble.

However, he had his own pride and even if he felt that his decision had been an impulsive one, he would never dare admit it.

As he got lost in his thoughts, Carmen stopped walking and Leon almost ran into the man.

"Eh...? What is it?" Leon asked as he raised his head and looked ahead.

It seemed that they had reached their destination and Carmen need not answer his question.

The hound dogs were supposed to be vicious creatures that only knew how to bite and devour. They were famously known to have no mercy and that was perhaps the reason why Leon got stunned as he saw his dangerous hound dogs in such a state...

"Are you sure these are mine...?" Leon tilted his head and blinked in confusion as he asked.

Carmen took a deep breath in and covered his mouth as he tried his best not to laugh. He faked his calmness and gave a nod as he confirmed it, "Those are definitely the ones you've raised."

"..." To say that he was speechless would be an understatement.

At the moment, Leon couldn't help but feel disappointed, angry, and embarrassed.

On the way here, he had worried about what damage the hound dogs had caused but what he got to see was Alora not being attacked with fangs, but with cuddles and kisses instead.

The three hound dogs wagged their tails happily and licked her face as the girl laughed and played with them.

"Your highness, it's really bad. They are acting as if they had been bewitched," The maid who had brought them here commented anxiously.

Both Leon and Carmen had a realization of what the maid really meant by her words when she called the two over and they couldn't help but be confused whether they were supposed to laugh or cry at this situation.
