Chapter 14 - The curse is a bit deep

"Well, in that case, let us tell you," Mari chuckled as she spoke, "The demons can't kill humans anymore."

Alora's eyes widened ever so slightly as she heard this and she didn't know if she was supposed to laugh or cry about this.

She had been fearing for her life till now but turns out that her life was never in danger, to begin with.

She felt ridiculous...

"However, the curse is actually a bit deeper than that," Mari sighed as she continued, "You see, demons often prey on humans who are vulnerable and it is in their nature to do so, but because of the curse, if any human is directly killed by a demon, the demon also suffers a fate worse than death."

"A fate worse than death...?" Alora repeated as she felt a little amazed by this.

"That's right," Mari nodded her head as she explained, "It's something so horrifying that you can't even imagine it."

Beth sighed as she nodded her head and added, "There used to be seven princes of hell. They were often called the seven deadly sins, but then, the prince of wrath fell in love with an angel."

"Excuse me... What...?!" Alora asked with a bit of shock. She had heard about the seven deadly sins before this but this was certainly the first time she was hearing about this odd love story that sounded as if it came straight out of a fictional storybook.

Dorothy chuckled as she spoke, "It must be hard to think that the prince of wrath can fall in love but he really did."

"Unfortunately enough, the angel he fell in love with was beloved by the God and so, his love was doomed since the very start," Mari sighed as she spoke.

Beth, "The prince of pride had vowed to destroy and taint everything that God loved and when he came to know about this angel... He helped the prince of wrath."

Mari sighed, "The angel also fell in love with the prince of wrath and the two had a child together."

"And that's when the curse struck," Dorothy spoke as she suddenly popped up from behind Alora, almost scaring the crap out of the poor girl.

Mari, "It was undecided whether the child would grow up to be an angel or a demon and so, in order to protect the child and its future, the child was sent to earth."

Dorothy, "The prince of pride wasn't too happy with this decision and had other plans so he started to kill the infants on earth in hopes of killing that child but this only angered God."

Beth, "Since then, demons are not allowed to kill humans."

"Unless of course, a human consents to it," Dorothy shrugged her shoulders as she casually spoke.

"That's how the contracts came into place," Beth added enthusiastically, "Demons can now make contracts with humans. We help them with something and they promise their souls to us. It's quite simple and efficient."

"But contacts are no longer easy to make," Mari sighed as she spoke, "Humans nowadays do not believe in our power anymore and have been greatly warned about the contracts so they are always cautious and do not easily fall for our tricks."

Alora gulped as she heard all this and couldn't help but remember Daren who was also such a person who didn't believe in demons and the supernatural.

"That's why we want to break the curse!" Beth exclaimed enthusiastically.

"But what does this have to do with the royal prince?" Alora gulped as she asked.

"His father was the prince of pride so he's the one that inherited the curse. If he dies, the curse ends and we get to feast on humans once again!" Dorothy exclaimed with joy as she chuckled.

"Can you imagine all the soft fresh skin we'll get to wear? Hehehe..." Beth chuckled to herself as she spoke, "And the mouthwatering blood... Oh, how I've missed the taste of it~"

"I can imagine it!~ The prince is nothing more than a sacrifice for the glorious future that is waiting for us~" Dorothy sang and Alora felt a shiver run down her spine as she heard this.

"B-but what about the human race?" Alora gulped as she asked anxiously, "Are you going to turn them into livestock?"

The three demons looked at Alora in unison as they heard this question and smiled but said nothing more.

"And then you woke me up," Alora sighed as she spoke.

"Hmm... So the prince of wrath fell in love?" Daren asked as he felt a bit fascinated to hear this.

"Did you seriously ignore the rest and focus on that?" Alora questioned in disbelief as she glared at the boy.

Daren nodded his head as he spoke, "Of course, I did."

"..."

"Do you even know who the prince of wrath is?" Daren clicked his tongue as he questioned.

Alora frowned as she heard this question and shook her head, "I only know the seven deadly sins. I don't know their names."

"I knew you'd say that," Daren commented with a sigh before he revealed, "The prince of wrath is called Satan."

Alora's mouth opened in awe and she fell speechless.

She had never known the name of the seven deadly sins but she surely remembered the famous name of Satan who was also known as the King of Hell.

"And the prince of Pride is also a name you've heard before," Daren added with a chuckle, "Lucifer, the fallen angel."

Alora's eyebrows creased together as she heard this, "Aren't they both, the same person...?!"

For most of her life, she had believed them to be the same person but it was the first time that someone was pointing out the difference between the two.

Daren chuckled dryly as he shook his head and asked, "How can they both be the same?"

"..." It seemed that Daren knew quite a lot about these things even though he acted as if he was not interested in the least.

"The next time you go there, tell the three demons that you are no longer able to take the job," Daren spoke with a sigh as he suggested, "If the prince that you are trying to kill is really the son of Lucifer, you don't want to deal with him."
