Chereads / A Shadows Light / Chapter 5 - Jassmine

Chapter 5 - Jassmine

I was never relaxed, bit more on edge if anything. Not even the colorful decor could avert my focus, none of this was right. First it was the cop Thomas, sure co-workers calling each other by their first names was normal, but telling two teens just to break tension. That was sus.

Second, it was how we were called. All of the other students had the same officer escort them, but when we were called there was a new escort.

Finely, this woman. Westburg police always hired locals to talk to minors about things like this, but I never saw this chick.

So I gazed around the room we were in, there weren't just colorful decorations. There was a whole wall dedicated to degrees and PHDs, studies to become more of a detective, not a trauma counselor on the side.

But I kept quiet, only planning to talk if spoken to. Always looking in their eyes, showing respect. Even though we weren't in trouble I couldn't help but feel that eray feeling around us, almost like being a lamb, with a large lion in the field. Waiting to devour me.

So I kept my gaze off her, so did B. He focused on twiddling his thumbs. Then I realized this might count as being disrespectful, so I slowly and I ment slowly re-located my gaze onto her.

And what I saw, would change a man. She was waiting for me to look at her, those silver eyes revealing everything.

She was that lion, and I.

Was just a lazy lamb.

I could have sworn to god that she looked pleased, but not at my fear; but just being pleased about something. Something…..more.

Her gaze lighted softly, like when you see a helpless creature on the side of the road. She looked at B and me for only a moment, then she looked back at Thomas, then quickly looked at us.

They shared a brief conversation through facial expressions and looks, Thomas shook his head to argue silently, then she cocked her head at us glaring at Thomas, her silver eyes showing the demand for respect once more.

He slowly nodded.

"Fine, about the time we did this anyway" His voice was coarse, more shallow than before.

Time we did what? What are they hiding from us? She quickly stood up, so quickly it almost made her chair fall to the floor.

Her gaze fell onto us, softening once more but only for a millisecond, fading to its icy hold.

"Jasmine Taylor, Bryan Taylor, how would you like to be in the A.O.T.S?"

I couldn't even remember what I was doing, I don't know how to feel. Was I angry, sad, in pain? Honestly I don't remember anymore!? Getting out of my seat in one smooth motion was easy, even when B tried to hold me back. I strode over to her desk, seeing the shock in her eyes when they connected with mine.

At this point, I had no plan. Was I gonna hit her, yell and demand for answers or just stay silent. I could only see red.

But at this point, I informed myself on one thing. If I hit her there is a two hundred something pound man behind her that is supposed to be a cop, a cop with a stun-gun.

Hearing B in the background trying to get me to calm down was another problem, if I hit this chick I might get blind-sighted.

I might hit B.

So I went for the second opinion, demanding answers. I funneled all my emotion and all my fear into a few sentences.

Banged my hands onto her desk, and started.
