I was doodling on my notebook, waiting for class to start. Kids were coming in taking their seats, and all of a sudden I felt someone staring at me. I glanced up for a second and this beautiful man was looking right at me. His jet black hair still wet, his bright blue eyes looking almost through mine. It was scary, no one had ever taken notice of me like that, especially someone as good looking as him. I blush and look down, continuing my doodling. He walks to the back of the class and takes a seat next to mine. I suddenly felt way more self conscious, why couldn't I have done my hair today? I could've dressed way better. Wait, when did I ever want anyone to notice me? All I ever wanted was to get my studies done and get out of my broken house. I never really wanted any close friends, less ties to break when I decide to leave. But for some reason, I wanted him to notice me, and I didn't even know his name. It felt strange. I glanced over to him just in time to notice him looking away. He felt my gaze, looked back and was about to say something, when the teacher walked in and started class. Ugh. Math. The teacher walked up to the board and started writing a long, complicated equation. Even better, I thought sarcastically, One of these. Next to me, the man whose name I hadn't learned mumbled under his breath, "Great. First day and we're diving right in." I looked at him and chuckled quietly. I felt his pain.
"Alright. Turn to the person next to you and complete the equation. First pair to get it right gets a laffy taffy," the teacher said, sounding completely bored, and turned to his desk to do some paperwork. I hesitated, opening my notebook to copy the equation down and turned to my new partner.
"Hi," he said, his voice matched his outer appearance perfectly. He sounded dark and mysterious, just like how he dressed, how he looked in general. "I'm Adrian."
"Hi," I responded, "I'm Kylie." And for a fleeting moment, I didn't feel like running.
