I gave Adrian directions to my house, it wasn't far, I lived in town. He drove safely, but very fast. He went at least fifteen miles over the speed limit the whole way there and it was kind of unnerving. We got home within a matter of minutes. He parked in front of my house.
"Pretty nice place you got there," He said. I mean, it wasn't huge or anything, but it wasn't what I would consider 'nice,' it was alright, everything functioned, but it could use a slap of paint and some renovations.
"Thanks," I said anyway. I wasn't sure what kind of background Adrian came from, but having that many kids in one house must be a struggle. I grabbed a sticky note from my bag and a pen, and wrote down my number on it. "Here," I said, giving it to him, "Text me sometime?" I said hopefully, I couldn't hide my blush. Julie and I got out of the car and walked into the house, as soon as I closed the front door I heard him pulling away. Julie jumped on me immediately with a million questions about when I met him, why I hadn't said anything to her as soon as I saw her, and went on and on about how cute he was. I started laughing and answered her questions as best as I could, and eventually I tried to shift the conversation to her.
"How was your first day though?" I asked. Her face fell.
"Oh it was just awful," she said, plopping down onto one of the kitchen chairs. "They don't use the same curriculum as our old school, and none of my classmates talked to me, and I made no friends. Plus, one of my teachers called on me when I wasn't paying attention and everyone laughed!" Tears were starting to form in her eyes.
"I'm sure it will be better tomorrow," I said, trying to comfort her, "You'll make new friends and you can totally get used to the new school stuff. You're smart and beautiful and funny, not a single door wouldn't be open for you!" I think I made her feel a little better, but I could still see she was feeling down. "Spaghetti?" I offered, and her face lit up.
"You always know how to make me feel better!" She said.
