The next day, I got up earlier than normal. I hopped in the shower and flew around trying to get my morning routine done as quickly as possible. I got dressed and had a thought. I ran back to the bathroom and dug around for my cologne. I haven't worn cologne since a family wedding two years ago. I sprayed it on my clothes, one spritz was enough. I gathered my things in my backpack and headed downstairs. 'Shit.' I thought. None of the pack members were up, even less so ready. It was way too early to start heading to school, so I decided to make breakfast. Breakfast in a pack house meant at least two dozen scrambled eggs, two loaves of toast, and as much bacon as you could imagine. Slowly, tired eyes and shuffling feet made their way into the kitchen, and all of a sudden everyone was sitting around the table grabbing handfuls of food and throwing it on their plates. It was loud and energetic, and there was a lifted spirit in the air. 'I should do this more often,' I thought to myself. This seemed to be a great start to the day, and seeing them happy made me happy too. These were kids I grew up with, trained with, and they trusted me completely. But bringing a human into this world? Very dangerous. No matter if she is my mate or not, she's still a liability. How much do I actually know her? Not at all. 'She wouldn't do anything to hurt us,' Shadow interrupted my swirling thoughts. 'Mate is good. She's kind hearted and she will surely be loyal.' I scoffed internally. 'We know practically nothing about her,' I said back, 'besides, you think everyone's good and loyal.' 'Not everyone…' Shadow said, pulling my eyes over to Clara. She felt my gaze but before she looked up and caught me looking at her I was already shoving another piece of toast in my mouth.
