Chereads / Heart of Ruby (Old version) / Chapter 28 - - Blinded

Chapter 28 - - Blinded

As Will sat there, he realized that this blindness was permanent. However, despite this, he did not feel sad or angry.

He simply felt that this was a consequence. A consequence of using too much of his heart's power. When he used too much of his power, he had been knocked out and had no ability to recover himself. Without the power of his heart moving his blood, he had lost all blood flow and wasn't awake to use qi to move his blood. Because of this, he began to die.

When people die, the first sense they lose is sight. Therefore, when he was dying, he had lost his sight.

This was a simple fact, and he accepted it calmly. There was no point in complaining about it now that his sight was already gone.

However, he had barely enough energy to move, so he simply lied back down and continued to recover. He had only recovered about half of the power of his heart at this moment, so he was extremely weak.

What he didn't know was that Kessia had been watching over him on her father's orders. After all, he had saved her, so it was only fair that she looked after him while he was hurt.

When Will had sat up, the first thing she noticed was his eyes, which were now completely pearl colored, with opal like irises and pupils. She could tell that something had happened to him, but she didn't know what. She just assumed that something weird had happened to him, considering that he was the strangest person she had ever seen.

She had never in her life heard of someone that had even a portion of Will's unique traits, let alone the sheer number of strange things about him.

Shortly after this, Will layed back down and she continued watching over him. She figured that it would be better to not bother him considering that he was recovering from nearly dying.

Thinking about Will, and how he had saved her, her train of thoughts eventually went to the deadly poison which had nearly killed her, then to the whole situation which had ended up causing that outcome.

Thinking about this, she quickly became angry, sad, and even slightly scared.

However, she trusted her father to handle the issue.

Despite her being healed, the whole of Scorching Sun kingdom still thought that she was lying on her deathbed. This was because of the reason she had almost died.

For the next few days, Will continued to lay in bed, with princess Kessia watching over him, never letting him know of her presence. She had thought that he knew that she was there, but she was mistaken.

On the third day after Will had initially woken up, his hair was now 90% red again, but his eyes were still pearl colored with opal irises and pupils. His blindness had not gotten any better, nor had he expected it to. He now got up and started to walk around the room, staring blankly.

Since his heart had now mostly recovered, he decided to try to regenerate his wings. However, before he had the chance, he heard princess Kessia speak up, saying, "Are you ok? How are you feeling?"

This surprised him because this entire time he thought that the room was empty. She had clearly not just come in, because he would have heard the door opening.

Having not heard her voice before, he did not know that this was the princess, so he quickly asked, "Who are you?" while staring at her with his blind eyes. He could tell where she was because he could hear the direction in which her voice came from, but not exactly where she was.

This quickly alerted her to the fact that he could not see her. Based on his blank stare along with the fact that he didn't recognize her from his sight, along with the fact of the state of his eyes, she pieced together that he was blind, after which she quickly explained that she was the princess and that she had been watching over him for the past few days.

This surprised him, because she had been astonishingly quiet to not alert him to her presence. However, now that he knew she was in here, it became increasingly obvious to him that she was here, even without her speaking.

"Where am I?" he asked. He was curious as to where he was since he obviously wouldn't be in the same room as before. When he was walking around, he realized that the floor was made of wood and not stone, so this was not the same room that he was in before.

"You're in the guest room right now, and I have been staying in the second room so that I can watch over you. I was informed that you don't need to eat or sleep, so I didn't offer anything so as to not distract you from recovering," she said sincerely.

It was clear that she didn't really know what to do with a guest that didn't eat or sleep. However, the fact that she stayed here with him proved that she meant well.

"If you want them, there are some clothes next to the bed, and there is a bath in the washroom. I can go start it for you if you would like," said Kessia. She was told to take care of Will as if she was his servant until her father got back. She was currently not allowed to leave this guest room, though she didn't tell Will that, and there were no people allowed in the room, except for Old Man Dai and the king.

It was to be a total secret that she had recovered until the king had finished his business.

Because of this, she was to help Will in any way that he needed while he was recovering. However, it was now apparent to her that he would need her help a lot more than she thought based on the fact that she could tell that he was now blind.

Because of this, she offered to start a bath for him to help him relax, along with telling him where the clothes prepared for him were.

He currently still was wearing the pants of a slave and no shirt, because he had not changed his clothes in the entirety of the time that he had been here.

This was, of course, very awkward for her, as she was a princess, but she figured that it would be worth it in the long run to help someone like Will, who would surely become someone powerful in the future.

As Will sat back down on the bed, he felt around for the clothes, eventually finding them on a table next to the bed. After grabbing the clothes, he asked, "Would you please guide me to the wash room?"

Shortly after asking this, Kessia guided him into the wash room, where she proceeded to start up the bath, heating the water.

After doing this, she guided Will to where the bath was before quickly leaving the room. She had adjusted everything so everything was within arms reach for Will so that he wouldn't get lost trying to find stuff like his towel.

After this, he undressed and stepped into the tub.

To his surprise, the bath was perfectly heated and very relaxing. It was much higher quality than any tub which he had ever been in. Being raised as a slave, he only had access to a very badly made tub which was always filled with freezing water.

He sat there, soaking in the water, losing track of time. Very quickly, he fell into a deep sleep, during which he was healing at an amazing pace.

Within ten minutes, his hair had all turned back to its original ruby color, and his wounds from getting burned by the qi of his wings melting had all healed too.

As soon as his hair had all changed back to its original color, a low rumbling sound was heard. This sound was all too familiar. It was the sound of Will's heart beating.

As his heart started beating, his back quickly started heating up at an alarming rate, eventually becoming red hot. However, he was in water, so nothing around him caught fire. Slowly, his wings started to flow out of his back, forming like a sapling growing out of the ground. Within only a couple minutes, his wings had been completely restored, and he lay there, in a tub of boiling hot water. However, he didn't seem to mind the hot water as he continued slumbering.

Slowly, the rumbling of his heart subsided, as did the heat on his wings. He continued to lay there in the tub for close to an hour before finally waking up.

When he woke up, he noticed that his wings were back and that he was no longer feeling tired or hurt.

He then got out of the tub and grabbed the clothes and started putting them on. When he put them on, he realized that they were extremely high quality and much more comfortable than his slave clothes had been.

The next thing he noticed about the clothes was that the shirt had holes for his wings cut out of them. He quickly put the shirt on, and it fit perfectly. He was surprised because he had never been in such high quality clothes that fit him so well. And not only that, but they even had an area for his wings cut out of the back.

He then made his way out of the wash room, going towards where the bed was. When he was walking around with the guide of Kessia, he had memorized where things were so that she would not have to guide him again.

However, before he made it to the bed, he noticed that something was off. There was a feeling of fear in the air. Fear and malevolence.
