Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 21: Silver and Lead

ENSON'S P.O.V.

Enson stopped the car in front of the small two story house and sighed heavily as he removed the keys from the ignition. He looked over at Erza who was sitting in the passenger seat ready to say something. She was pale and looked ready to run. Why was it so terrifying for her? A feeling of dread came over him and he had to say something.

Erza's father had been kicking a fuss about her being gone. He had been texting non stop for the last week and a half. It had gotten to the point where Erza left her phone in Heatharian's secret drawer in the kitchen.

"Erza, I don't like this." She jumped slightly at his words, almost as if she had been lost in thought. Her gorgeous forest green eyes met his and he couldn't help but wonder when he would see them again, if ever.

"I don't either, but I don't have a choice." She was on the verge of tears.

"Let me rephrase that. Erza I have a really strong feeling that I should turn around and go back. That I shouldn't let you go in there at all. Please please don't do this I'm begging you." Enson was almost crying from anxiety and if the car had allowed it he would have been on his knees begging.

"How about a compromise?" She was losing her battle with the tears. He nodded to indicate that what ever she asked for he would give her. "Stay with me." He almost broke when he heard the way her voice was trembling. On closer inspection he realized it was not just her voice that was unstable.

"I will never leave you." He pressed his lips to her forehead in a gentle and loving kiss. He hoped that all the love and adoration he felt for her would pass through his lips and into her.

He watched her as they went to the door of the house. Enson really wanted to grab her and run away. But he had orders from Kedian. Something felt off as Erza stuck her key in the lock and twisted it. Enson heard the bolt click harshly. When she opened the door the scent of rotting flesh hit his nose like a sledgehammer.

The smell was so overwhelming it made his eyes burn and water. He recoiled and covered his nose and mouth with both his hands. Before he could stop her Erza had already disappeared into the dark house. He followed her cautiously and shut the door behind them. It would only get in the way if any enemies were already inside. However if someone was planning an ambush they would not be caught off guard.

Erza called out nervously to no answer as Enson closed the door behind him. The house was unusually dark. There was a sense of neglect all around them. The very air was heavy. It almost felt like a warning. Almost as if it was urging them to not disturb this final resting place. The heat was off and a freezing hand gripped the house as if to strangle any who entered. Erza started up the stairs and Enson entered the kitchen to make sure the back door would make an easy escape route.

There, seated at the table was a corpse. One could only assume something terrible had happened here. Enson spun on his heels only to find a well built man of about 6'9" standing in the doorway. In his hand was 9mil glock. It was pointed right at his gut. A long black tube was attached. It only took 2 seconds for Enson to realize that it was a silencer, but that was 2 seconds too long. The man had turned on the living room light, making it hard to make out his features.

"Enson?" Erza called down softly from the top of the stairs. Enson opened his mouth to yell at her to run even as he linked Andrellious, but his hope was short lived.

"Erza? Did you call me?" The dark figure called out. Enson realized it was his voice responding to his beloved Erza, though he had said nothing. A loud pop sounded and a burning sensation began in his abdomen. Enson immediately knew he had been shot. Not with lead he realized as the burning intensified, but with silver! And the bullet was still inside his body. He fell to the floor as the man that had shot him stepped up infront of him. Blackness clouded the edges of his vision and was pushing inward. He could hear a woman screaming somewhere close by. A loud bang rang out and the muffled screaming stopped.

"I will be taking Denory. You are no longer of any use to anyone." The son of a bitch sneered as he glared down at Enson who was now realizing that this man had no intention of wasting another bullet. He would leave him to die of blood loss and silver poisoning.

The last thing Enson heard before he lost consciousness was the sound of shattering glass. Suddenly he was alone on the kitchen floor.

****

Enson was not sure how long he had been lying there but woke to pressure on his wound. His vision was blurry and he couldn't make out who it was that was trying to save him. The scent was familiar though only vaguely. A strong commanding voice rang through the pungent air.

"Enson where is she?" It was Kendrelous. Enson would know the beta's voice anytime anywhere.

"He took her." He half choked on the sob that escaped him as he answered. "Please save her!" Tears were running down his face as he slipped into unconsciousness again, this time an unfamiliar voice pleaded with him to stay awake.

When next he woke he was in the back seat of his car and Cadrian was talking to someone in the front seat as Andrellious held a silver bullet between his fingers. He had obviously just dug it out of Enson.

"There you are you fucking bastard!" He growled and slipped the bloody slug into his shirt pocket. Just then he noticed enson was watching him. "You're gonna be fine, baby brother." His hand smoothed Enson's hair back gently. Andrellious reminded him of their father.

"Erza..." Enson wanted to say more but Andrellious cut him off.

"The beta went after her. They got Han's sister, too. Do you remember Lyn? Apparently she went over there before you got there to make sure everything went smoothly. But she wasn't there when we arrived. Did you see her?"

"I heard a woman screaming in the kitchen. It stopped after something hit the counter. Maybe they slammed her head against it to shut her up. I heard glass shatter in Erza's old room."

"Lyn doesn't like violence! If Enson was shot in front of her she would probably freak out and try to help him." That same unfamiliar voice chimed in. He sounded worried but proud. "Honestly though I thought getting shot didn't hurt you guys? Cadrian was shot when he first met Lyn and Kedian has been shot- Well we always joked that Kedian was great for target practice. So why is a simple hunk of lead so bad for Enson?"

"It's silver not lead." Andrellious said as unconsciousness swallowed Enson again. His last thought before he was swallowed by the suffocating darkness was that he hoped Kendrelous got there in time to save Erza.
