Chereads / The Magic Rings / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

The other children were disappointed about the lack of any reactions to their questions, they could only grumble and could do nothing about it and thus the testing continued. The tests proved to be what is usually expected, none of the children that came after Grey had any magic talent and some came out of the room whilst crying which is what you would expect from a bunch of children, however sometime after half of the children had gone inside for testing there was a child who came out laughing with a wide smile. The child that came out was a female child whose name was Sophia October, the surname for her was because she was born in the month of October, the person who was responsible during the registering of this particular orphan did not think much when deciding on her surname.

Grey did not know the Sophia's name or surname but they were in the same class which the mid wife Susan taught, because of that he knew her face and recognised her.

"Miss Susan! I did it! I have magic talent, the sir told me that I have a tier 3 magic talent and will have a bright future!"

Sophia was too exited that she was shouting to Miss Susan, the children's reading teacher.

"That is very good for you Sophia."

When hearing that there was second child who had magic talent, most of the adults had wide smiles, and only Miss Susan could calm down enough to answer the child that was clearly looking for attention. Sophia October was a well mannered child in the orphanage, she always did what she was told by the adults, never making trouble, that is the reason the adults immediately recognised her when she came out of the room. The reason the child was clearly looking for attention was because she was always overshadowed by the class genius called Grey Gram, she was actually second in the their small class of five years old children, but most people don't remember number two but number one.

"Sophia you can go and seat with Grey and wait for the rest of the children to get tested."

Miss Susan had to push Sophia to seat down to give other children a chance to get tested, Sophia went and seated next to Grey, and could not help but brag about her what she could consider a small victory, children right.

"Grey, the sir in the room said I am like you, I am talented, right Grey?"

Grey was paying attention to this female child, mostly the part of the tier of her talent, tier 3, apart from that he did not pay much attention to her, except that she had short auburn that only reached her neck. In terms of looks, she be considered like Grey, she was very average in her looks, you could see that by the time she grew up she would not knock off heads. What at least made Grey look at her in better light was that she was very neat and sat properly unlike the rest of the children. Grey though did not answer her question, seeing that Grey did not answer her made her slightly sad, like her small victory was snatched back.

The testing for the rest of the children went on until the last one was done, there were no further miracles in this testing drive, none of the children had any magic talent. The children that were left would then get the opportunity to get adopted or will continue to live and study in the orphanage until they are 15 years old, at that point they are considered as adults in this world. The 15 year old teens could go into apprenticeships where they would get skills to support themselves, some of these 15 years old teens could go into the military to become regular forces.

1st Lt Michael Sergei and 2nd Lt Joana Davidson came back on to the stage when the last one of the children was tested, the 1st Lt gave a speech.

"The military would like to thank Boon's Number 03 orphanage for their good work in producing two magic talents, the orphanage will be well rewarded for their hard work. The kingdom hopes that the orphanage can keep doing the good work they have been doing, their work is vital to the kingdom's plans. Thank you."

The adults at the hall were very happy, it was guaranteed that their rewards would be more because they had two magic talents.

"Grey Gram and Sophia October, go fetch your belongings, we leave after you are done."

2nd Lt Davidson told the only two magic talents to go and fetch their belongings not that they had much to carry. Grey stood in front of the gate of the orphanage he had spent 5 years of his life, he looks at the sign.

'Boon's No. 03 Orphanage, they must have many of them to start numbering them like this instead of giving them proper names like what you would expect. I wonder if too much people die in this country to prevent parents from talking care of their children.'

Ah Boon, the city in which Grey was born in was just a normal city that was far from the centre of the administration of the kingdom, it did not have two much in terms of things that made it stand out. Grey did not feel any sad leaving this place mainly because he did not know much of it, he is only five years old and the orphanage did not allow children of that age to go outside of the orphanage.

"Hey you two, it's time to leave."

2nd Lt called the two children who were standing at the gate of the orphanage. The two went to where they were called and saw that they would travelling using a carriage that was pulled by two large horses, they were two metres in height, they were military horses called Black Forest Horses. The two entered the carriage and found that it was very military like with maps of the kingdom on the walls and some pictures which Grey thought were of important military people.

"Okay you two, you are going to Witfield Military Mage Training Academy, there they will teach you how to be a military officer and how to use your magic."

Sophia raised her hand in sign that she had a question, a well mannered child this is.

"Mr Michael did you also go to Witfield Military Mage Training Academy?"

"No, I did not go to Witfield, I went to a different one called Wagner Military Mage Training Academy. Sophia we are military people so you must call me using 'Sir' and my surname. I will let you off this time."

"I apologise Sir Sergei."

"Good girl Sophia."

The child might not be good in terms of looks, but she was very well mannered and everyone likes well mannered children, even 1st Lt Sergei and 2nd Lt Davidson did. The journey to Witfield Academy took several hours, but what must be said was that the roads in this place, considering this a land that could be compared to the middle ages Europe, the roads were all well done allowing the horses to run at top speed which is somewhere just after 100 km/h. Grey did not talk much, the well mannered Sophia fell to sleep during the journey, so he just watched as the land passed by until the windows were closed for the rest of the journey until they reached Witfield Academy.

Witfield Military Mage Training Academy was situated in a mountainous region somewhere in the kingdom, not many people knew its actual position, every country wants to protect the mage resources, thus not one would release these positions where they train their mages.

"Sophia wake up, we have reached the Academy. Grey good luck to you in your studies. Davidson and I will not be entering the Academy, we have to go back to report our mission and receive our merits, we will leave you at the gate someone will come and pick you up, just wait."

"Thank you Sir Sergei for bringing us here and answering my questions from before."

"No problem Grey, we will probably meet sometime in the future."

The 1st Lt did not give him a chance to say a last piece, leaving him wondering when and where they would meet.
