"The reason to this is very simple, you children are not old enough to use magic."
The lieutenant saw that some kids were tilting their heads to the side, like they were confused by the statement, one of the kids with tier 2 talent raise her hand.
"Yes Ilse?"
The name of the child was Ilse Louis, the child had long auburn hair and was slightly cute, the child wore glasses like Flynn to help her see better.
"Sir, what do you mean, when you say we are two young to use magic?"
"Ilse, I was getting to that."
"Thank you Sir."
Whilst this situation was occurring the tier 4 talents and some of the tier 3 talents were still patient, they believed that the 1st Lt was getting to the point Ilse asked about.
"You children are only 5 years old and have not fully developed."
1st Lt Miller continued with explanation.
"One of the most important reasons of a mage's ability to use magic is what is called magic channels, these channels allow magic fuel to travel in their body. The magic channels must be fully developed before magic can be used, your 5 years old bodies do not have fully developed channels, thus you cannot use magic. Do you understand Ilse?"
The lieutenant asked Ilse, but he was observing every single child in the lecture theatre.
"Yes Sir, I do."
Grey already read about this information in the book 'Into Magic'.
"You must have realised by now that this part of the Academy has kids slightly older than you who live on this side two, they too are not fully developed to use magic."
"Sir, then when shall we use magic?"
Ilse raise her hand again to ask another question, before answering Ilse's question he observed the kids at the front row and some tier 3 talents and then back to Ilse, it seems these particular children had already had the correct answers.
"Ilse you will start to learn magic when you reach 10 years of age, then you will start using magic. At that age the magic channels are fully developed to withstand the strain of having magic fuel run through them, allowing magic to be used."
The lesser intelligent children which most included tier 2 and tier 1 talents had looks of understanding, maybe that it is the reason 1st Lt Miller is so patient, not everyone is like the tier 4 kids with their high cognition.
"For the next five years you will live in this Academy and learn a whole bunch of things to say things lightly, this will include normal education that can be found any place here in the kingdom, with you lots' intelligence that should be easy."
To be fair, what he said about normal education not giving these children any challenges, was true, even the tier 1 talents should not have problems constantly acing tests and exams, even that buffoon Sheldon was considered a genius in the village of Shaw only if stopped playing too much.
"You will also learn how to be military officers, you are being trained with that in mind after all. There will be a lot physical training to get you lot into shape, this will also include weapons training, as a mage you should at least know how to defend yourself if magic cannot be used, this happens, trust me."
There were mixed reactions when the statement was said, a female student who had tier 1 talent raised her hand to ask a question.
"Sir, even girls have to do the physical work outs as well."
"Sharon I am talking to everyone in this class and that means the females too, so for a short answer, yes the girls will have to the physical work outs."
The colour in Sharon Mountain's face drained when she heard that the girls had to physical work outs as well, it seemed she was pampered in the orphanage in Mountain city.
"Your magic studies will officially start after 5 years, the take away from that statement is that you can self study magic theory for next 5 years, the library has good books that can help you, I will recommend 'Into Magic' by Wagner for beginners like you."
Again there was mixed feelings when they heard that the magic they were dreaming of would only come in 5 years and they would have to self study a subject like magic, even for small geniuses like them magic was difficult to study, the ones who could possibly go farther alone would be possibly be the tier 4 talents and some of the tier 3 talents.
"Okay let's take a break, afterwards I will do a small summary on some of the key points about magic to get you going."
Grey did not leave to go to break like some of the children, he just stayed in the lecture theatre comparing the information he had read from the book 'Into Magic'. The information 1st Lt Miller had imparted to them was still the same that he read from the book. The break did not last for too long, the children went back to the lecture theatre, but something that was interesting was that the three children that were late finally came to class. The late children were two boys and one girl, one of the two boys was Sheldon, one thing to point out was that the children did not look too good.
The colour in their faces had completely drained out, it was like that had just seen and experienced their worst nightmares. Grey noticed this but did not comment, he was not really interested in the whole situation, he had already read the rule book and he understood the punishment for being late for class was only low tier in terms in severity.
"Now, children back to what I was explaining."
The children paid attention as the 1st Lt continued on where he left off.
"Magic is about using magic fuel, which I mentioned earlier, though it is usually called mana in normal situations. The mana is found in your Source sometimes called a Mana Pool, the mana is driven through your magic channels and it is used to manipulate the magic elements around us."
"Sir, what are the magic elements you talked about."
Whilst the 1st Lt was speaking, Sharon Mountain the girl who is afraid of work outs raised her hand to ask a question.
"Sharon that is a good question. I will elaborate on what magic elements are in a few minutes as it pertains to a particular activity that we will be doing later after you children have your lunch."
1st Lt Finn Miller answered with a patient look on his face, but some kids felt this guy was good at acting and was highly passive aggressive to the less intelligent children, or maybe that is how they felt, anyway we will never know. Anyway 1st Lt Miller continued with his lecture.
"The manipulation of the magic elements is usually done through the use of spell structures and other special methods, but the master stroke in the field of magic is the Magic Ring."
The surprisingly got even more attention from the children, even Grey was pulled in by the atmosphere, considering that he already knew the information the 1st Lt was lecturing about, you can see this fellow is definitely interested in the study of magic and magic in general. It was not only Grey, but the rest of the tier 4 talents had lights of want in their eyes, the good neighboured child Flynn, the dark haired serious child Petra and the matured like an adult child Miranda all paid extra attention, which made the 1st Lt happy.
'It looks I finally got the tier 4 talents' attention.'
"The Magic Rings are used to elevate the effects of magic to even higher levels, without the use of Magic Rings magic would not be as powerful and the legends of higher tier mages like Wagner would not exist."
The lieutenant was interrupted by a hand that was raised seeking attention.
"Sir, what are these Magic Rings and how do we acquire them?"
The person who asked the question was a male child called Leon Fischer, Leon was a tier 3 talent, thus he could be considered competent with his mind activities. The child gave the feeling that he was a good kid in general, he is the type you would want to befriend and have as your best man at your wedding, and possibly look after your kids if you suddenly died. The kid had green to suit his well meaning personality with brown curly hair.
"Leon, I was about to talk about that, but I understand that you were excited and could not just wait."
"Sorry Sir."
The kid blushed in shame for being found out, ever since he saw the female mage that came to his orphanage and demonstrated tier 0 spell [Light Ball], he had been hooked to magic, and when he found out that he had magic talent it seemed like the world was telling him that it was meant to be. 1st Lt Finn Miller did not put the kid through more torture and continued his explanation.
"When a mage goes up in magic tiers in their magic path, they gain a ring around their Source, the Source is found in the heart, so that it seems like there is an illusionary ring around a mages heart."
'Though these people from this world call them rings, they are just flat donut shapes, an annulus.'
Grey could not help but to comment internally in his mind about the actual shape that the 1st Lt was talking about, the lieutenant continued.
"The first ring is generated naturally when a mage reaches tier 1, rising in tier will get a mage a new ring, this continues in higher tiers. Higher tier rings are larger than lower tier rings, I will explain why that is a good thing as we proceed."
