The information that the 1st Lt had talked about could be found in the book 'Into Magic', one thing that excited Grey the most was that from his observation, what the people of this this world called engravings could be associated to a programming language.
'The mages of this world whether they are aware of it or not are programmers, they are writing programming scripts onto the magic rings. The scripts when ran would create the special effects that are seen from magic rings. Magic Ring Master is just a fancy name for a programmer.'
Grey thought to himself as he thought of the 1st lieutenant's question.
"The reason why a person could use tier 3 ring, [Strengthened Fire Magic], when compared to other rings is because people have different elemental affinities, and these have a big influence on which rings are chosen."
1st Lt Finn Miller did not wait for an answer from the children, he directly said it out.
"Elemental affinity determines which elements can be used with great ease and without the use of large amounts of mana."
A hand was raised by one of the tier 2 students. The student was a male child with the name of Michael Pendelton, the child had a slightly cute face. The girls would fall to his feet by the time he grows up, the child had blond that was slightly unruly with blue eyes.
"Sir, does that mean mages can only use spells from a certain type of element only?"
"No, mages can use spells from other elements, but it is usually difficult."
The 1st Lt answered with a smile on his face.
"An increased in mana usage is only a simple problem, but sometimes this could lead to injury or complete destruction of the magic channels. As you know magic channels are very paramount to a mage's ability to use magic."
Michael Pendelton nodded in show of understanding.
"A person usually has a one main element and two secondary elements. Some geniuses with tier 6 talent or higher will have two main elements and four secondary elements, but that does not involve you."
The kids had a look of shock when they heard it possible to have a talent at tier 6, even the tier 4 talents had a look of shock.
'These kids possibly come out of the mother's uteruses already talking.'
Grey made a light joke about these type of kids.
"Today after lunch you will meet me in testing building number 05 to get your element affinity determined. That will make your planning much more easier."
The 1st Lt observed the front row where the tier 4 talents were seated, then he looked at some of the tier 3 students, lastly he looked at the quiet Scarlet in the middle. After observing what he called the intelligent children he left without saying anything else.
The children were a little bit dumfounded. Grey was left without words to say about this fellow, though he had an idea about what elemental affinity meant. This type of situation would eventually come up in a magic world.
'In most novels the protagonist usually has special affinities or something like that, but this is not a novel it's my life I wonder how things will play out.'
Grey secretly hoped that he had fire affinity, like a self respecting otaku he wanted to try out the spell [Explosion] that was made popular by a certain female anime character.
"Hey Grey! What did the teach when I was late!"
His thoughts were interrupted by the buffoon called Sheldon who called him from the back. Grey did not even need to look back to know who it was, his voice was highly recognisable.
"Grey you know that the teacher punished me, it was really terrifying. You must come and wake me up in the morning from now on, we are best friends after all."
The rest of the children turned to look at Grey in interest, which made him annoyed with this buffoon, such people like Sheldon were a bane to people like Grey. Grey had to fight the instinct to shout at this idiot and ask what was he was talking about, since when were they best friends, but he managed to fight the instinct enough to leave the lecture theatre.
But before he left the through door he could hear the giggles of Sophia the well mannered child, she was happy that her nemesis was getting this annoyed so much these days.
'That Sheldon is definitely trouble, such that Grey ignores him such.'
Sophia made an observation, she wanted to befriend anyone who could make her nemesis suffer, but a person like Sheldon would get her on trouble as well and for a well mannered child that could not be accepted.
Grey went to the dining hall to have his lunch.
"Hey, did you hear that there was a fight between some of the Academies for the possession of the tier 5 talent child?"
Grey went inside the dining hall as Mr Ruov was gossiping with some of the dining hall staff, to be expected of a gossiper like Mr Ruov.
"General Wagner had to intervene and act as the mediator to stop the fight. The tier 5 talent ended up in Schneider Academy."
"I heard that the dean of Schneider Academy was so happy he laughed like an idiot."
"Though I heard that Schneider Academy would have to pay some resources to the academies that were competing for the tier 5 talent as compensation."
'It looks like as much as the military academies have one goal of creating mages for the military there is high competition when it comes to high tier talents.'
Grey was thinking to himself as he listened to the conversation.
"Tier 5 talents have a higher chance to reach tier 6 which represent the Arc Mage starting point, who would not want such a person to come from their Academy."
Grey found himself answered, weird enough. Grey really wondered where these dining hall staff actually got their information from, Witfield Academy like the rest of the Academies are usually closed off, maybe these guys are put here to bring information about the outside world to the children.
"I heard the name of the lass was finally made public after she reached Schneider Academy, Ursula Aachen from Aachen City."
Aachen City was the neighbouring city to Boon City, the city that Grey and Sophia came from, it makes you wonder if there is something special in that region, three magic talents came from there.
Grey went to seat down after he got his food, that was some important information he got from the gossiping dining hall staff. Flynn came and seated together with Grey, as the ate they discussed information they learned in class. The two shared some ideas about what they thought about magic ring designers and the profession in general, it was here that Grey confessed was interested in going further in this field.
It was not only the two of them that were discussing the class session.
The dark haired child Petra was having a deep discussion with the matured like an adult Miranda as the had their food, some other kids who were very interested in magic found other people to discuss with, Sophia was not one of these children.
"Sophia let's have a sleep over tonight."
"Sure that is not a big problem Cassie."
"Sure you come to my room, I will the one to set the alarm."
Poor Cassie did not know that Sophia's internal alarm was as good as a normal alarm. Sophia could not discuss magic with type of person, makes you wonder why they are friends.
Somewhere else in the dining hall, Scarlet was thinking about her future in her magic path even with lacking talent, she would glance at Grey once in a while.
One thing to say about Scarlet was that she was natural genius, if she was a normal human she would still be a genius. If her intelligence was calculated it would be found that she had the same intelligence as a tier 3 talent.
Grey and Flynn left together to go and find testing building number 05, the testing building was hidden in a corner of the Academy and was difficult to find, even when following the signs.
Flynn had to ask one of the Academy staff where the building was found, and eventually they found it. They were not the first to find the building though, Sophia and Cassandra were the first to find the building.
Sophia had a smug smile on her face.
'I beat you Grey, I got this victory.'
She was happy she had gotten another victory from her nemesis, Grey did not indulge her though, he ignored both her and Cassie and went inside testing building number 05. He had finally understood that Sophia had weird delusions about him but he was not going to indulge her at all.
"Hello Sophia, Cassie. You guys got here fast."
"Haha. You don't have to feel bad for coming in second, I just asked an uncle to lead Sophia and I to this place."
Flynn just greeted the girls, he did not comment on Sophia's weird obsession about Grey, he too had noticed it after a while.
"Flynn why do you hang out with that Grey, he is VERY VERY RUDE."
Cassie made sure to say that Grey was rude again, it looked like she did not like Grey which would make Grey very happy. When Grey went inside the testing building he found a similar chair that was used to test his magic talent, the only difference was this chair had seven coloured orbs on the left side, interestingly it had a further two orbs on the right.
'The seven coloured orbs must represent the seven elements, cool. Then what does a plant and ghostly face represent.'
Grey to thought to himself as he studied the chair, aside of the seven coloured orbs the two orbs on the right side had a flower and a ghostly face inside.
