Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

"Team leader Grey, Some members of the team are heavily injured. The suppliers are running out as well."

Grey turned to look at Scarlet, she had a calm face with a slight frown, the words that came out of her mouth were very severe and full of seriousness.

Grey also had slight frown on his face but he kept his calm as he listened to Scarlet's report.

Scarlet and Grey had grown up since the time they did their elemental testing in testing building number 05. Grey did not have his signature indifferent face, what was happening around him required his full attention.

"Scarlet we will cut off those who are heavily injured. That should also save us some of our limited supplies."

Grey did not hesitate to get rid of his injured team members, what mattered currently was the mission they were assigned to finish.

Wait, since when are Scarlet and Grey working together? These two people kind of realised that they were the same type of person as the lived in the Academy, soul mates if you will. They were both logical and rational thinkers full of pragmatism, they also hated the type of people like Sheldon and Cassandra.

Scarlet realised that Grey would always get annoyed when people like Sheldon and Cassandra were around him, he just could not hide his emotions. Thus she went to him and said that she wanted to be his second in command, a girl that is planning for the future.

Grey was slightly surprised when this person who he had never interacted with came and offered to be his second in command, he obviously knew her, Scarlet Autumn, tier 2 magic talent with the intelligence of a tier 3 talent.

He then had a conversation with her to understand her much better, he asked her some questions that would require a logical and rational thinker full of pragmatism to answer to Grey's liking.

Grey did not like people who thought with their hearts like they are some Shounen protagonist, he wanted people who used their heads, weighed the pros to the cons, before making a decision.

You can guess what type of answers she gave to him, anyway it looked like they were caught in a difficult position, they were out numbered and were running out of supplies.

There was no fluctuation of his emotion as he decided that that people who were his comrades would get to be abandoned in the middle of a battle field, ruthless guy or maybe the situation was forcing him.

The injured people had looks of horror as they found out they fate, Scarlet did not ask any question about the orders given to her by her superior officer.

She got the rest of their team members who could move by themselves, they left immediately after their supplies were packed, they left those condemned to perish behind.

"Scarlet it will be difficult to kill her without having to charge their fortified position, this will also increase the casualties, such a chaotic situation could allow her the chance to escape."

Grey's team mission was to eliminate the enemy commander at all costs, the other enemy targets were low priority.

"I need you and the rest of the team to act as decoys to lure her out."

"Team leader Grey I understand the mission, we will make the best decoys even if it creates more casualties on our side, but their side will also have casualties."

The mission that Grey gave to his team members was a difficult mission without very little chance of retreat, but these people were trained and they knew their responsibility.

"Scarlet get it done."

"Team leader Grey, I will get it done."

Such trust between superior and subordinate. Grey definitely did not want his trusted second in command to perish, he knew she would be able to hold on long enough such that the mission gets finished, one thing for sure was that some of Grey's other team members were going to perish.

Scarlet lead the rest of the team members to the enemy's fortified position, she looked very heroic with her red hair with a spear in one hand and a shield in another, she might not be the most pretty of girls with her freckles but she difficult to pass by without noticing.

Grey stayed hidden at the back with his bow, waiting for the chance to take the shot to kill the enemy commander.

The battle at the front had already started with Scarlet leading the team of 8 to charge the enemy combatants. A big melee started afterwards, Scarlet swung her he shield at an enemy combatant to shield bash that individual in the face which lead to a scream and some nose bleeding, she then stabbed out with her spear and that enemy combatant perished.

She was about to stab another enemy when her spear was stopped by a sword that deflected it.

"It's you. You have gotten very good with that sword."

"You too with that spear. How's Grey been doing these days?"

The enemy combatant's question was not answered by, what came afterwards was some form of battle field duel.

The casualties on both sides started to mount, Grey's team original number had reached to low number of 5 team members, the other side had original number of 13 combatants currently it was only 9. The enemy commander looked like the type that could not stand wait for her subordinates to get killed whilst she hid, thus she joined the battle.

Grey was waiting for this situation to arise, he knew the personality of the enemy commander very well which lead him to use this type of tactic to lure her out.

'She finally could no longer wait.'

The enemy commander used a saber that shone with light, the second she got into the battle someone from Grey's side immediately fell.

"Destroy them!"

She shouted as she swung her saber at another enemy, she seemed very valiant.

With the enemy commander lured out, it was up to Grey to get the mission finished.

He knocked thee arrows on his bow, they were all aiming at the vital parts of the enemy commander. The three arrows were all released towards the rampaging enemy commander, the enemy commander say the arrows speeding towards her.

"He dares to try and sneak attack me, Grey must be confident if he thinks this attack will work."

The enemy commander tried to slightly dodge the arrows, but before she could dodge to one side one of the arrows turned to the same direction. It looked like the arrows were given spin so as give them the effect of guided arrows,.

"Damn him, he has gotten really good with the bow."

That was true, Grey had spent a lot of time training in the use of bows since they started weapons training in the Academy.

The enemy commander tried to go back to her original position, but she was surprised to find another arrow that was aimed at her chest.

"Damn he lured me with those three arrows so I could stay in this position for this arrow to actually do the job."

The was no time to dodge the new arrow, after all she was only human, the arrow hit her chest and she fell on the ground.

BANG!

The was a sound of a bell immediately after the enemy commander Petra fell in battle, the people who fell during the battle started to get up on too their feet.

"Scarlet why did you have to hit so hard with that shield! I think you might have broken my nose!"

Sheldon was shouting at Scarlet who had just stopped her battle field duel with Sophia, he was the enemy combatant that suffered the shield bash on the face.

"Grey's team win the simulation battle!"

There was a loud voice that was heard by everyone in the battle field, it was the voice of 1st lieutenant Finn Miller.

"Petra, there was a high chance of winning and all you had to do was wait for your allies to kill Grey's team members, but you don't need me to tell you that you should already be aware."

"Sir I am aware, but I too had to keep with my convictions, I would not allow my subordinates to get killed whilst I hid."

"I believe Grey was already of your personality so he chose this strategy even knowing he would lose his team mates as well."

1st Lt Finn Miler commented as Petra answered.

"Grey good work with those tracking arrows, without them you would have not managed to kill Petra. Things would have gotten very difficult for you if your position as archer was found by the enemy who could charge you."

"Thank you Sir."

"Good work at finding the opponents weakness in such dire situations, most people would have chosen to retreat."

"Thank you Sir."

Grey did not have to many words he just wanted to have a good shower and get some rest. 1st Lt Finn Miller came out behind some woods, together with him was another individual, the person was 1st Lt Gisela Jones.

"Scarlet, you really did a good job at leading the rest of your team mates, Sophia and you had an exciting battle. Sheldon how is your nose? Scarlet you might have hit too hard don't you think?"

1st Lt Gisela Jones was responsible for their officer training, she was the one commenting about Scarlet.

"I did not mean to hit too hard, I was in the heat of things."

There was no person who believed her, everyone knew that the duo of Scarlet and Grey were not the type to get into the heat of things, they were always calm and calculating.

The battle they had just had was something they did once in a while to train in different situations that could be faced in a combat situation. In this situation Grey's team had just faced an ambush and some of their team members had been killed and some heavily injured.

In such a situation maybe the correct response was to retreat, but Grey chose to go forward with the mission because he was one of the few people who really knew Petra's true personality. The girl was serious on the outside, but she really cared for her people, she was the perfect example of hard on the outside and soft on the inside.

Having lived together in Witfield Academy for 4.5 years to date, he generally understood the personality of his classmates, and maybe the personality of 1st Lt Finn Miller but he still not sure about that guy. The children in his class also had an understanding of Grey's personality as well, after all they too were geniuses.

Grey and the rest of the children were almost 10 years and soon they would start to learn magic, but recently they had gotten tired of waiting, some of the children could not help get restless staying in this place far from the outside world doing the same thing every day.
