Aisrin and the girls stood before the makeshift counter, awaiting to be given a temporary Nights Dawn insignia.
"Once you've completed your fifth quest, you'll receive the permanent branding. For now, you all will get a patch insignia." Flora explained briefly.
"I see. Can you give further details on the job of an Adventurer?" Aisrin asked.
"Depends on what kind of Adventurer you wish to become. Most of us just stick with extermination quests. But you can also choose to be an Explorer. Dungeon Explorers tend to delve into dungeons in search of Artifacts and riches. Cave Explorers enter caves mainly looking for materials to mine. Labyrinth Explorers attempt to become conquerors, their main intent on the accompanied fame and fortune.
"There's also Geographic Adventurers that map areas yet undeveloped or inhabited by man. Guardian Adventurers focus on Guarding towns and cities as well as Escorting officials and important political figures. Gathering Adventurers are self explanatory. They gather materials from all over. They like to accompany every type of Adventurer to accomplish their objectives and earn a reputation as Great Gatherers.
"Smithing Adventurers are Wandering Blacksmiths with the Adventurer Path. They also accompany other types of Adventurers. It's a balanced partnership, in return for the shared profit of wealth and materials, they repair or create items with major discounts for their parties.
"Merit Adventurers strictly participate in all Tournaments, or emergency quests. Of course, they can choose to do this only after their fifth quest.
"There is one other type of Adventurer and that's the Jack of Trades, otherwise known as a 'Jester'. King of Fools. they attempt to do all of the above and are extremely short lived.
"Of course, these titles are earned depending on what you do in your first five quests. Also, after your fifth quest you become eligible for Tournaments. Weekly, Monthly, and Annual.
"Weekly Tournaments are typically simple show off events for guilds to display the power of their members. It's not mandatory, so we don't enter. Though we do get merits that count towards our overall popularity from these, we haven't the power to show off with, and unfortunately Guild Masters are forbidden from any Tournament outside of the Decade Cycle Guild Master Tournament.
"Monthly Tournaments are both mandatory and non mandatory Tournaments, depending on the host. We only enter mandatory events, mainly because we're too lazy otherwise.
"Yearly Tournaments are only for the top ten guilds and is absolutely mandatory for all to attend even if they are not participating. This is both a display of power and prowess, as well as to see the overall merits the Guilds earned, but again, only the top ten are shown. We have never once participated in the yearly event. As we are always last.
"Finally, I'll explain merits. Merits are gained through members of guilds for astonishing accomplishments, or by participating in Tournaments. Merits can be exchanged by guilds for certain accommodations or to reserve for new Adventurers. As we did with you, though we only exchanged one for each of you. Of course, the guild that's chosen gets all those exchanged merits.
These can be withdrawn within a day of exchanging said merits. Which also means we neither gained nor lost with you. Quite the 'Break Even' scenario. Any questions I can further answer?" Flora spent ten minutes detailing her explanation. Aisrin, who was quite the stickler for detailed explanations, had a very contented look on his face under the mask. Though Flora could tell simply because of the shattered upper left portion of said mask.
"No, I'm quite sat... actually, yes, where do I start said Quests?" Aisrin inquired, correcting himself before he forgot.
"You can choose from the guild board over there. You can choose upto five quests. Once you choose, you can bring them to me, I'll sign off on them, and once completed, you take them along with proof to the main building. That's where you'll receive an official guild tag with our colors and a rank. You'll also choose what kind of Adventurer you wish to be." Flora pointed to a wall with a square drawn around some papers.
'What board?'
Aisrin approached the wall and looked at the measly amount of quests on said wall.
'If I take five from here, I'll practically complete all their current quests. But, whatever.'
Aisrin grabbed five random quests and rejoined Flora at the counter.
"We'll take these then." Aisrin stated.
"Very well. Gathering Apothecary Red Herbs... Exterminate a wandering pack of Kobolds... Find a missing helmet... Mine some Iron Ore... And Gathering Apothecary Blue Herbs. Here you go." Flora signed off each paper and handed them back to Aisrin.
Aisrin and the girls left the guild and went to the main Gaye, showed their papers to the guards and exited.
*Somewhere outside Fargas, three days prior*
Iwata and his soldiers were camping along the main road, the walls of Fargas looming ahead.
"Should I lay siege to this great city? I'm certain I could get some points with Bloodrend yeah?" Iwata asked one of the captains.
"As a hero, you are not bound by any laws of engagement. If you wished to seige a city, all rights are to your discretion Sir Iwata." The captain replied.
"Hoho! I like the sounds of that. I suppose that is what I shall do then. If Aisrin-Kun is there, I can also take his head, then nothing can stand in our way!" Iwata smiled.
*In a cave outside Fargas*
"This is the last quest. How much ore do we need?" Aisrin inquired as he broke wall after wall with his fists as he collected ore.
"Its the same answer as with the herbs, 'I don't know.'" Syphir replied as she did the same. Eventually the group collected what they deemed acceptable and headed back towards the city. As they were approaching, the first thing Aisrin noticed was a unit of soldiers, at least a thousand strong, with a single man leading.
"...I'll asked one last time. Surrender now, or I, Iwata, The Hero of Man, will lay seige to your city." The leader, Iwata, was exclaiming.
"Hero of Man? A new Hero?" Aisrin pondered aloud.
"No, he's he's summoned Hero. Not much of one either." Regina answered.
"Ah." Aisrin stopped and observed.
"We will mot yield to tyranny! Leave, or be annihilated." A man stood above the gates and shouted. He was dressed in royal battle gear with the colors and insignia of Fargas.
"Suit yourself then!" Iwata laughed and drew his sword, signaling his small army to attack. They began rushing forward some casting magic others just charging head long towards Fargas.
"Well, I guess we should thwart them then." Aisrin shrugged. He lifted his hand and an earthen wall rose in front of the army, halting their attack. They all stopped, confusion ripping through the ranks of both sides.
"Hahaha! You thing that'll stop me?" Iwata raced forward. But suddenly he leaped back as far as he could just as spikes erupted from the wall and impaled many of his soldiers. Injuring many more.
"Intriguing." Iwata mumbled. It was a decent ambush style of fighting. The spikes retreated back and the wall returned. Aisrin walked calmly to the front of the gates and turned to face the Army. The girls joined him. Aisrin rose his hands up to the sky. Iwata stared at the peculiar boy with intense interest. A tingling sensation spread throughout his body and instinctively activated a barrier around himself as Lightning rained down upon the troops with devastating effect. The ground had charred and over half of his force had been killed of or incapacitated.
"Who might you be?" Iwata called out to the boy.
"The name is Sin." Aisrin answered.
