Chapter 2 - New World

While doing the only thing I was able to do in my current situation which was sleeping like a baby, something was trying to take me out of the darkness that has been making me feel safe for an unknown amount of time.

To suddenly be in a dazzling and cold place, I couldn't stop myself from crying in annoyance as it was like having someone taking off your blanket in the morning, but a hundred times worse.

Only after a woman with blonde hair tied in a ponytail wrapped a sheet around me did I managed to calm down.

With dark circles around her eyes, It was apparent that she hadn't gotten much sleep lately.

Her gaze never left me, one could assume she was admiring the most beautiful thing in the world with a proud smile.

A gentle voice came out of her mouth, saying something in a foreign language, but the message was pretty clear with the way she was staring at me.

After this, she handed me to a man with the same dark hair as mine, his powerful grip made me feel vulnerable but considering his knight uniform with two stars at one side of his chest, it was understandable.

Just like the woman, his eyes contained the same proudness while rubbing my cheek with his finger.

Right now, I should have the same appearance as when I was a newborn.

All this time in the darkness did not prepare me for this. Having people whom I can call mom and dad feels weird but at the same time comforting...

Three years later...

"Levi, let's play knights outside!"

Although only five years older than me, Ariel pulled me with ease. Not because I am weak, but because dad has been training her for three years.

The two stars on his uniform displayed his status as a knight captain but also two stars on his magic core.

I had no chance against someone who has been trained by a reputable warrior.

Just like any other kid, her short-range fighter-type magic core had awakened at the age of five, at that time, she was fated to become a knight, but Ariel couldn't be any happier.

Other than this, there are many more categories such as supporters, summoners, long-range fighters, and spies. However, there may be additional categories that I don't know of.

Reading a book while chilling on the couch, mom poked fun at me. "Ariel, watch over your brother. We don't want any young girl stealing our little Levi somewhere again."

"Mom! Don't say that! Her magic pencil just caught my interest."

Just a few days ago, while my sister was busy bargaining with a merchant, a girl came to show off her magical pen that allowed her to write in the air.

After talking to each other for a few minutes, we went to the store nearby where she acquired her item.

"Don't worry," Ariel said, waving her hand at mom. "I won't let anyone take him this time as, without Levi, I wouldn't have anyone to play knight with!" Instead of letting Ariel leading the way, I pulled her hand in a hurry.

Even after those years of treatment, to be treated as the youngest child is still and will always be embarrassing.

Sometimes I wish I could shout at them saying I am not a kid but it would have been counter-productive.

All this time, I haven't made much progress regarding my goal in becoming a 7-stars True Mage, for my core had not awakened yet.

The only thing I could do was training my physical body by fighting with Ariel with a wooden stick we have found beside a tree.

Once outside, she took the serious face of an experienced knight who was teaching a newcomer and explained in a louder voice than usual due to the noisy market nearby, "As you should already know, knights don't just save bachelors in distress, they patrol around the town to make sure citizens are problems free. That's what we are going to do today. Understood?"

Just like she taught me, I stood straight and raised my hand in a salute position. "Yes, captain Ariel!"

"Alright." She turned her eyes towards my hip. "I see that your sword is in good condition. We shall start our patrol, then."
