With the cobblestone road, Ariel and I roamed around Aelford with ease.
Situated in the Zuvia Kingdom, our large town has lots of entertainment to offer to visitors, making it a popular place to visit among travelers.
Because Zuvia is part of an alliance with other kingdoms, we are quite safe from invasions of monsters.
Although many people were on the street minding their own lives, I couldn't take my eyes off a sad-looking grandpa sitting on a bench with a wolf pup.
"Did you notice something unusual with your keen sense again?"
"Un." Nodding my head, I pulled her toward the old man who upon seeing us walking towards him, tried to put on a smile.
"Good morning." Ari took the initiative to talk first. "Your puppy looks so adorable!"
Hearing this brought a sad smile to the old man's face as he said, "His name is Wolfy, a two weeks old pup. I am the only person taking care of him."
"Well, he must be lucky to have someone looking after him. I wondered why you looked so depressed... As long as it is within our power, we promise to do our best to help you."
"Both of you must be the rumored duo of kids helping people around the town. However, you don't have to burden yourself with this responsibility.
"I am just someone with a mortal core, my body cannot stand the test of time much longer. I am afraid Wolfy will be left alone without having anyone to look after him."
Meanwhile, I was playing with Wolfy at the side. I couldn't ignore such an adorable creature. Ariel might get jealous if she were to know that his dark blue fur is even softer than her hair.
Is he a royal pet or something to be so clean?
"Don't worry, we'll take care of him!" I almost shouted in joy.
In my past life, I have always loved hanging out with cute animals more than humans. It seems like I had inherited this trait.
Even though I was almost an adult, my current maturity isn't as old as before since they're just memories.
For example, when you read a memoir from a 50-year-old man, you haven't lived 50 years but just gained knowledge. The same applies to me.
But thanks to it, I am still quite mature for my age, I should currently have the same maturity as an 8-year-old toddler, so just the same as Ariel.
"You're really my little brother! I was about to suggest the same thing! With Levi and me, you can rest assured that Wolfy will grow healthy and strong in the future."
"Thank you, children. With two little knights at his side, I won't have to worry about his future anymore." The old man laughed as if his previous sadness was never there and hugged Wolfy one last time. "Although I grew fond of you during these last two weeks, our path must separate. You now have a new family. Protect these kids well in the future to return their kindness."
I feel bad for the old man now. If only I could make him young again...
"Hey, little brother, you ready to get some scolding from mom...?" After the old man left, Ariel said with an awkward smile while holding Wolfy.
I forgot that she is allergic to dogs...
"Knights are fearless," I chuckled. "Let's have fun with the pup and return home late today!"

With the pup in my arms, Ariel and I have been standing at the corner as punishment while mom was reading a book in silence.
"You're safe with us." Wolfy seemed to understand what I was whispering to him as his little eyes were staring at me.
Strangely, he was quite comfortable with us even though we just met for less than a day.
"Ariel and Levi, come here," mom sighed as she closed her book. "Punishing you is useless if you won't regret your decision. Listen, since this is your first time causing trouble, mommy will let this go. However, both of you will have to take care of this pup yourself. Is that clear?"
"Thank you, mom!"
