"Locked!?" Leonard was baffled. He tried opening the section up for more information, but there was nothing. Leonard quickly went to the system home page, yet the Locked section was gone. It was not one of the main options.
'Why is it gone?' Leonard thoroughly searched the menu to find the locked section again, to no avail. 'It popped up when I thought about that trial… so if I just think of it again, it might come back!'
[Locked]+
'It's really back!' Leonard took a good look at it, this time noticing a plus sign next to it, that he could expand it for more information.
[Locked]-
[Unlock Requirements: Triumph over a supernatural being]
"What!" Leonard was shocked. He doubted the system would straight-up give him something impossible, so he had no clue if it was meant to be taken seriously or not, but to him, it meant there were other people with supernatural powers on earth he might fight.
Leonard calmed down. He realized that this shouldn't have come as a surprise to him, 'After all, someone must have made the system, right? Others may naturally have powers, or also be granted powers.'
He paced around in circles, hard in thought.
[Daily Mission: Kill two humans. (Reward: $7500)]
'What strange wording...' Leonard saw an implication of this mission's wording. 'It was implied that other missions may want him to attack things that aren't human! I could just be reading too far into it...but I think it makes sense.'
Then, another implication was realized. There was no specification on what to kill, like last time where he was tasked with killing a gang member. Leonard had to be honest with himself, everything going so smoothly last time was due to luck. 'I mean, what idiot would sleep with his window wide open in a neighborhood like that guy did.'
He could kill two gang members, but it would be difficult to do that safely, much less in a timely manner. After all, he didn't have enough money right now for a noise suppression device. But it wasn't too good to keep relying on the system for every minor detail. He knew what he could do.
He gave a nervous grin. 'I could do this mission easily.'
…
Leonard stepped out, it was the middle of the night. He had dressed himself up in the black robes again. A passerby might think he looked suspicious, but nobody would go and find trouble with him.
He neared a house. Before he had gotten the system, he was planning to rob places for money. This was one of his targets that he had done some small research on. Now, it was the perfect opportunity for him.
The gangsters chose to strike, stealing Yukki away while Leonard was away. Now, he would do the same to this stranger. After repeated observation to and from work, he noticed that this house had a rich family. The father usually worked late and came home drunk and the mother was out until morning.
"I don't have a choice…" Leonard let out a soft, morbid chuckle. Deep inside his heart he almost felt bad for what he was going to do.
Keyword, almost.
These strangers didn't have anything to do with him.
Leonard circled the house, finding a backdoor half-buried in the ground. It must lead to a basement. The key point was that this place was much more secluded than the front door. He took out a set of lockpicking tools and got to work.
…
Lockpicking wasn't easy. Leonard wasn't exactly an expert, although he had some skill. It took him 15 minutes to get in. Yet, in those moments his heart was screaming for him to stop, and for him to keep moving forward nonstop.
If this backdoor didn't exist, he would have gone in through a window. Leonard reaffirmed himself, no matter how much commotion he makes, the evidence would no longer be real after quick storage in the system.
'What black cloak? What knife? What gun? What gunpowder? If the robber used those tools, well, go find them!'
'But that's something to worry about later.'
Walking in, it was 100% the basement. A quick look around revealed nothing of interest. It was not surprising, in the basement! Leonard would be surprised if there were valuables.
'Robbing sounds easy, but who would leave money so casually laying around!'
However, this wasn't what he was here for. He was going to terminate someone's life.
Leonard took silent steps as he walked up the stairs up to the first floor.
He found one of the rooms he was looking for and tried to open it, though it was locked. He figured it might have been a kids' room since the door was covered in stickers and glittery handprints.
He kept walking down the hall until he found the door to what seemed to be the fathers' room. It was at the end of the hall. As Leonard approached the door, he pulled out his knife and got ready for what had to be done. He grabbed the door handle and slowly turned it.
*click*
The door opened and revealed a master bedroom with a beautiful interior. The curtains, the bed, everything Leonard could see was a beautiful white and looked amazing compared to what he had. He looked at the bed and he did not see anyone laying down. His heart skipped a beat.
'The dad should be sleeping by now! Is he home? Where is he? Does he know I'm-' Leonards mind searched practically for an answer, a solution to what went wrong. He felt he planned perfectly, but clearly, he hadn't.
"BAwhahhhwah" A noise came from the door in the corner.
Leonard's Eyes immediately jolted to the door. He searched around for somewhere to hide, and realized the door would leave a small gap between itself and the wall, the perfect spot for him to hide when the person came out. Leonard made his way to the door and hid in the corner, waiting...and waiting...and waiting.
Eventually, he heard the toilet flush and a man opened the door. It was the father. He stumbled his way out the door and wiped his mouth. Leonard figured the sound he heard was the sound of the man throwing up. The man left the door open and slowly waddled his way to the bed.
Leonard pulled out his knife, ready to stab him in the back, and crept up to the exposed man. He didn't turn around. He didn't let out a word. Just a groan.
The knife entered his back and Leonard viciously ripped out the knife and repeatedly kept stabbing the man. It didn't take long for the man to stop groaning in pain and drop to the ground. As Leonard stabbed him over and over, he only thought of one thing.
'Yukki…'
Blood splattered all over the once white environment. The man's body thudded when it hit the ground. Leonard figured that everyone was asleep and that it would be fine since he could leave before anyone found the body.
'I have one more place I know a rich family lives, I'll loot a bit of their belongings and be on my way before anyone gets home or wakes u-'
"Dad?" A very young voice came from inside the room. Leonard doubted his age was even in the double digits.
*KNOCK KNOCK*
"uh, dad, I'm coming in?"
Tiny little footsteps were heard as someone wobbled to their door and unlocked it, opening it.
Leonard was nervous. He tried to run to the door to keep it closed, but was too late. The door swung open and the little child looked up.
"WHO A--GAH"
Leonards mind raced-
'They don't know it's me'
'I need to kill them'
'I can just run out the exit to the next house'
'They could call the police on me'
'I could knock them ou-'
'Yukki….'
The kid barely had time to react, as a knife went through his throat, leaving him to choke on blood. "AHHHHHH!" A small girl next to them screamed in terror.
"BOOM!" She was shot in the head without a second thought.
[Daily Mission: Complete!]
[Money: 10,511]
Leonard made his way out the house back the way he came in, without going to loot their house. Leonard ran out the house and through open grass, reaching a small public bathroom. He went around the corner and stored all the items in the system. Once again, they were no longer real. Then, he simply pretended to leave the bathroom and headed straight towards the speedboat he had reserved.
'There was no reason to wait, right?' He thought in a panic. He was going to raid the warehouse as soon as he could. He had enough money to use the system to deal with any possible situation there. Now was the time to begin the raid.
