Yukki had finally woken up. Leonard had been so worried, she was unconscious for too long, 'how could she stay out of it while I was moving her around so much?'
Leonard waved around excitedly, "You're finally awake! I have so much to tell you!"
Yukki was baffled. The past few days had been strange and now she had no idea why she was on a boat in the middle of the ocean. "Leonard, what happened?"
Leonard grabbed the jacket he had put next to Yukki, "Before that, are you cold? The air is rather chilly tonight."
WHoooooooooooooosh
A cold breeze passed by.
"Wow." Yukki suddenly felt the cold that she'd been ignoring. "Yeah," Yukki grabbed the jacket and put it on, "Thanks."
Leonard sat in front of Yukki, "We're not in that much of a hurry, but we still need to get going eventually, and the full story is too… confusing to explain entirely."
Leonard began summarizing, "In short, after you were kidnapped, I found some new… methods that can help me. These methods are what will take a while to explain, so I'll do it later. I spent a few days preparing myself and gathering information. After I found your most likely location and gathered all the necessary items, disguised myself, then snuck inside the warehouse today, taking you out of there. Any questions?"
"..." She had plenty of questions., but they weren't important, as long as the two of them were safe. "Are we safe right now?" Yukki inquired.
"Well, yes and no." Leonard replied, "People likely know what happened by now, but they have no idea who. I don't doubt they will eventually find out, as if I could have done things perfectly. That's why I think we need to leave this town. I don't think we are being actively pursued right now, so it's better to take things calmly, get things right, and leave without attracting unnecessary attention to ourselves."
"I see…" Yukki felt oddly calm, despite what she had just gone through. She knew, however, that despite how Leonard worded it, what he had done must have been extremely dangerous.
"Thank you…" Yukki didn't know what to say. There was no way to repay him for what he had done… she wondered...was it really worth it, just for her?
"Brother…"
"Hm?" Leonard looked over at Yukki, anticipating her next words.
"What you did must have been so dangerous… I can feel it. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to end up dying soon enough. What I'm saying is… no, I don't really know what to say. But, as long as I'm alive, I'll spend my last few moments with you…" As she finished that statement, she threw her arms around Leonard.
'...' Leonard was shocked, 'has her condition gotten that bad already!?' It if weren't for this mysterious "Living System", he would have had absolutely no hope of saving his sister.
He couldn't let her give up on hope, he hugged her back, and started, "It's like I've been blessed, the methods I've been talking about, I'm sure they can help cure you of any disease!"
Yukki gently shook her head, how could there be such a good thing in this world? "It's fine, you don't have to try to give me hope like that…"
Leonard was aware that no one was going to believe in such a concept unless he gave direct evidence. "No, no, I'm serious, look at me real quick."
"Huh?" Yukki slid back and looked on as Leonard extended his hand, and a flashlight mysteriously materialized in his hand! "What!?" Yukki rubbed her eyes, she swore she was hallucinating.
Leonard began to explain, "This all started the day you got kidnapped, after I woke up after being beat up. That's why I say it'll take too much to fully explain. Let's go to a safe spot, I'll work to cure you with this, and then we can explore this power together, alright? That sounds like a much nicer future than what we've been through…"
"Yes…" Yukki began to see his hope. Their lives have been pretty miserable so far, and she was honestly just going through the motions, living each day pretty despondently.
She looked up at Leonard, "You came for me even after gaining your power, despite the fact you could have just moved on without nearly getting yourself killed. I know I'll just hold you back, but since you came all this way for me, I can give you my promise, I try to hold you back the least bit possible.. What will we do now?"
Leonard held Yukki, "I'm happy, I've noticed before that you were pretty depressed to say the least. Hearing such determination in your voice is great. But, I don't need you to do that much. Just follow me. Things like our house, my job, all those things don't matter now, they can't tie us down."
"I was planning on going to Mear City, the city has vastly superior standards to here, this useless port. Then we can check out their Upper-Middle class neighborhoods. Just imagine, no gangs, no extortion, vastly superior living standards…that'll be after you get cured, of course. We can rent a cheaper apartment in Mear until then."
Yukki was amazed, "That sounds great, but… we all know those places have a steep price. Can your… 'power' take care of that, too?"
"Yes, but no more dawdling around, let's go! Just follow me. Oh, make sure you put on all the items I left there, I'm out here trying to disguise you."
With that, Leonard finally took action as he began slowly driving the speedboat in a roundabout route back to the store he took it from, depositing the keys and everything.
"Let's not stay here, the further we get away, the better. Let's not check any places we own or frequent, that's dangerous."
Yukki was confused, "That makes sense, but how are we leaving? The busses aren't around this hour, there are no taxis either. We don't even have a bike!"
"We can walk until it's morning." Leonard replied. Yukki was speechless.
Leonard continued, "Well, I understand you can't really walk too far, but I don't plan on making you do that. I can carry you."
"I…Leonard, would you be able to walk so far with me? Even if you can, isn't that going to be suspicious? It'll look exactly as if you had just kidnapped me…"
"You're right!" Leonard began to think, surely he could purchase a tool to help him with this situation. He looked around, the shops were closed, but he wanted to at least get some ideas…
No ideas came to mind, so Leonard began to browse the store once more. He really wanted to just memorize the contents, but it was too full of miscellaneous items for him to do so. Perhaps he could buy a baby carriage and put Yukki in it?
"Leonard," Yukki began, "When I was taken, I was put into some sort of human-sized bag, a body bag if you will. If you think we can't afford to wait until day, perhaps we could try finding one of those?"
Leonard felt enlightened, "Follow me" he said as he walked into an alleyway, and pulled out a body bag out of thin air. "Sorry about this," he said. Yukki wasn't even going to question it anymore. She got in, "Just make sure I can breathe, ok?"
He closed the bag, then applied a sports sticker to the outside. "Hey," Yukki's faint voice came from inside. "Is this really worth it? It would be pretty easy to ambush someone at night, do you think it would be better to just get a taxi at day?"
"Perhaps," Leonard replied, "But why would I get ambushed? Remember, I'm not exactly recognizable right now, not as Leonard, nor as to the person who went into the warehouse. I just don't want to leave things up to luck, not again."
With their actions questionable at best, the two set off, to get as far away from the port as possible, and head towards the gang-less city Mear..
