Chereads / My Living System / Chapter 17 - Infiltration

Chapter 17 - Infiltration

Leonard eventually made his way back to the place where he rented the speed boat. His heart was practically beating out of his chest as he hopped on the speed boat. He went around for a few minutes testing the boat before anything else. After all, if he didn't know how to use it at the crucial moment, he would have nothing to blame but himself. Before long, he felt confident enough in steering the boat for his escape.

He began to slowly make his way to the warehouse near the pier, making sure to cut the engine and let it slowly drift up to it. Once it got close enough he jumped off and tied the boat to an extruding rock near the ledge. This was located to the backside of the warehouse, It was out of sight from anyone that would look at the sea unless they looked down from the ledge specifically. He checked his system and browsed his inventory one last time.

He changed to his black robes and put his gun and knife in his pockets. 'Ok...I know what I need to do…' Leonard thought as he looked towards the sky. It would take a bit over two hours before the sun starts coming up. He reached to the top of the edge and pulled himself up.

'Just in case, I need to make sure they aren't currently people active inside. Just a precaution' With that train of thought, he neared the back of the warehouse and put his ears to the wall. He wasn't exactly sure if he would be able to hear if they were talking or moving inside, but it was worth a try. If anyone was even in there, overwhelming chances were that they were asleep.

'Who would be awake at 4:19 am? '

...Leonard didn't hear anything.

'It's time to go in.' Leonard circled around the building and neared the side entrance.

He would first try out the electronic code. The lock consisted of both a physical lock and an electronic password. There was no point in wasting time on the physical lock if he couldn't get past the code. Leonard began to think back to when he was spying on the men opening this side door…

He followed their actions and began entering numbers into the keypad.

'3'

'8'

'1'

'5'

'Enter!'

The screen flashed green for a bit before sliding the words, "Passcode Correct."

"Phew" Leonard sighed in relief, this was the biggest uncertainty in his mind! He couldn't actually see what the man had entered in back when he was spying, he just looked in the direction his hands were moving! To get this right in his first try was good, very good. It was time for the physical lock.'

He began to take out his lockpicking tools to use on the keyhole.

'!?'

Leonard took a closer look at the hole and was baffled! Just at a glance, he could tell that none of his tools would even come close to doing anything useful. '

'There was no other way to describe the shape of the hole than just wrong. Luckily, I prepared for this situation.'

[Single Use Universal Key] - $3300

'Purchase!'

Only a single thought was required, his money went down to $7211. He considered the price both cheap and expensive. The average person would have no use for such an item, not at this price. Yet, it was undoubtedly priceless. He would have no doubt that the government would pay millions for such an item.

'Well, of course, they would just kill me in an attempt to steal it, but whatever.'

Leonard stopped thinking of hypotheticals about the government killing him in the middle of his dangerous mission and actually gave his complete focus to the matter at hand.

"Inventory!'

He took out the single-use universal key. Gently placing it on the lock, the circular disc-shaped object began shifting. The middle of the key that was facing the lock began transforming in front of Leonard's very eyes. A thin rod protruded from the disc and began twisting and turning the lock.

*click*

The lock made a slight click sound and the device Leonard purchased emitted a dull blue light, before disappearing out of existence. The door was unlocked.

Leonard took a deep breath. What he would find inside would be the moment of truth. He had made deductions, plans, and assumptions. He was limited on time, so he had truly done his best with making preparations. But Leonard was still worried. How could he not? His plans weren't perfect, things could still go wrong.

Leonard knew a saying.

"Man Proposes, Heaven Disposes."

No matter how deep a man schemes and prepares, there was always a chance things would go wrong. All he could do was minimize the chances things could go wrong, and the consequences of when things inevitably go wrong.

He could blame the fact he had to act as fast as possible all he wanted, but…

Considering he had gained a supernatural system, he didn't believe he had done a good job preparing. He had enough to buy the noise suppression device that he is planning on using, but not much else.

Leonard thought back to all the system's features. 'I should have been more ruthless! If I had more money… would I be worrying so much now!? Leaving things to chance, hoping things go right!?'

He shook his head. The past was gone, there was no use in regret.

He slid the door further open and looked inside, it was rather dark inside, but there were a few lights around. He began to walk in. Leonard half closed the door behind him, he naturally didn't want to risk not being able to leave.

Leonards gaze was attracted to the various lights. He stood still, so as to not make noise or movement as he looked around. Yes, as he thought, there were a few gangsters laying around asleep! There was no way he could take anyone out of here without waking them up, nor could he shoot them all to death before they woke up and remove him from life. No way, except if he used...

[Single Use, 1-minute Noise suppression device - $5000], bought!

His money drained to $2211.

Leonard took it out of his inventory and held the item in his hands. It was bigger and heavier than he expected, but still easy enough to carry in one hand. It had a wide, flared base, and the dark grey rectangular shaft protruded upwards. On each of the sides of the rectangle were gold ridges in the shape of squares. At the top, was a red, rectangular intent in the center. The rest of the top was covered in strange symbols!

Leonard's mind made a connection! He didn't recognize many of the symbols, but there were some he did! Those were the symbols for Change, Passivity, Flow, Stability, Order, and Entropy. 'Could it be that that information was used for the production of supernatural products? Since the locked section only pops up when he thinks about these properties, could it be that the Living System wanted to perhaps teach me more about how to manipulate these things?'

Leonard shook his head. He didn't see a problem in his thinking, but this was for another day. Leonard grabbed the noise suppression device. It didn't come with instructions, yet he felt like he already knew how to use it.

He took another good look around. He would only have a minute, so preferably he would get rid of the dangers in less than a minute! By the dangers, Leonard obviously meant the sleeping gangsters. One, two, three, four… four… he would need to take a look around.

Leonard moved around as silently as he could. If one woke up, they wouldn't immediately start blasting him. They would likely think he was a fellow gangster, at least for a few moments. If anything went wrong, he would immediately activate the device so that he couldn't wake up his fellow gangsters, and he could shoot the enemy without waking up everyone in the 3.14-mile radius.

He walked around, checking every turn and behind every large object. 'Aha!' Leonard internally praised his decision to check around before taking action. Five. There was a fifth gangster, sleeping. He was next to a closed shipping container. There were several shipping containers, yet this was the only closed one! It made sense to Leonard that if they were selling people they've kidnapped and transporting them on a ship, the victims would likely be here, right? Leonard's gaze was then attracted to a piece of paper. He grabbed it and began reading.

10/10. Shipping in two days. Various numbers were crossed out, but by process of elimination, that was the intended statement.

Did Leonard even have to ask? It was obvious what was in there. The container could be opened from the outside, yet Leonard obviously wouldn't do that yet. That would make so much noise! He would have to eliminate five gangsters first. He would use the noise suppression device.

Suddenly, Leonard's heart went cold as he felt a hand on his shoulder!
