Chereads / My Living System / Chapter 19 - Shoot-out

Chapter 19 - Shoot-out

"Damn!" Leonard had found himself in a dangerous spot. He may have thought he had the advantage, yet he was still in danger. The plan didn't include him fighting anybody! But, it was not that unexpected. He had to win this fight. Leonard had to think quickly. As the gangster propped up the gun and started aiming, Leonard sprinted like he never had before. Despite his best efforts, Leonard was not able to run behind cover on time. The loud gunshots echoed throughout the hideout as the gangster attempted to spray down Leonard.

"Boom!" A bullet whizzed by his head.

Out of nowhere, the gangster stopped shooting, and he ran back behind the container that Leonard had just ran from. The situation had changed. Before the gangster was in the open and Leonard was in cover, but now it was the opposite, and Leonard had his back exposed to the enemy.

Leonard quickly ran behind a small wooden crate that was near. Without a visual, he could only guess the gangsters location. He was scared. He felt like peeking his head out was asking to die. The gangster was staying still and silent. Should he start doing so however, Leonard would hear. He was listening to every last thing that moved..

Leonard stayed behind cover. He was listening… listening for movement. 'The enemy obviously wouldn't stay hidden forever, even if they had run out of ammo, they would at least try to crawl or run to grab more!'. When they did move, he would base their location based on the sounds of his movement!

'…I don't think this was a good idea.' He was doubting his plan and the amount of time he had given himself, he knew his actions were not the smartest, but he simply didn't know what to do. This was his first gunfight.

"ah", Leonard took a deep sigh. He was scared and didn't know what to do. 'I had looked for trouble, yet now I'm scared and unprepared. How ironic is that?' Leonard vowed that if survived this, he would go through proper gun training sometime in the future...

For now, he was still listening…

'Now!' Leonard peaked over the corner and quickly stuck his right arm out and started blasting.

"Bam!" the bullet hit its target. The gangster let out a curse, he was caught slightly out of cover! Yet, he was not caught off guard, he was expecting to get attacked again and had his gun ready.

"Boom!" Both guns were fired as Leonard shot his second shot and the gangster counter attacked.

"AHH!" Screams ran out as both participants were hit, one in the chest, the other in the hand.

Leonard stared at his hand in horror, his pinky had gone flying off, and he lost grip of his gun! "Clank!" His gun fell to the floor, out of cover! "Fuck!" Leonard needs that gun! "Haah", he groaned in pain as he quickly moved his leg over to kick the gun back to him. "Bam!" His leg was fired upon, but he had moved it too quickly. His leg was already back behind cover by the time the gangster reacted and fired.

Leonard grabbed his gun back, yet with his left hand this time. He stared at his right hand blankly… 'this… this doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would… but my PINKY!' Blood spilled from his hand uncontrollably, yet there was no way he could patch it up right now!

'How is he still alive! I swear I've shot him so many times!?' Leonard was very confused. He figured his gun was better at closer ranges, or at least without more experience and training, 'How did I manage to only hit nonfatal parts? 'What should I do now!?' Leonard debated whether he should wait it out. The enemy would likely bleed to death, yet the longer he waited, the more he felt something could go wrong. 'What if reinforcements had been silently contacted!'

As soon as this thought came to him, he resolved himself. He couldn't keep waiting. There was a decent chance of this, and if it was true, his time was limited. Any longer would mean certain death.

"Hey!" Leonard yelled out for his enemy to hear, as he began to speak bullshit. "I can spare you, you know, I just need you to cough up some information for me, and throw your weapon out!" He didn't really mean his words, he just wanted to see if he would get a reply. If not… perhaps his enemy was already too weak to talk, and could be finished off. It was still dangerous, but he wasn't going to wait here.

Leonard had already mentally put himself on a time limit. He would just have to act fearlessly, and quickly eliminate the threat, even if he had to put himself at risk. It reminded him of police officers.

'Police officers win the vast majority of fights, and most of their fights are just them rushing in and shooting the enemy, right?' Leonard used logic he clearly knew was incorrect to attempt to give himself courage for what he would do next.

'...No response.' Leonard sighed as he prepared himself for what he would do next. He made sure to fill the gun back up to max capacity.

Leonard took the first step, and leaped out of cover. He didn't want to simply peek out, because if the enemy was aiming directly at the edge of cover, he might get headshot.

'Huh!?' The gangster wasn't there anymore, he had hidden back behind cover! 'Behind this container? I'll quickly go and finish him!' Seeing the container, he thought back to when he pretended to fish, 'Perhaps I could climb this container and catch him off guard?'

He quickly abandoned this idea. The sound would make his actions obvious. Why even bother?

He swerved around to the right, and immediately started blasting as he turned the corner!

"Bam!" "Bam!" "Bam!" "Bam!" "Bam!" "Bam!"

He unloaded his entire clip into the body on the floor!

"Haah, hah, hah" Leonard breathed heavily from the pain and pressure. 'He was probably already dead from my shots from earlier…' He reloaded as he was thinking. No use in being out of ammo.

Leonard starred out his bleeding right hand, particularly where his pinky used to be. "That really hurts!" Leonard was shocked as the feeling of pain suddenly intensified as soon as he had defeated the enemy.

Leonard walked back and grabbed his fallen pinky. One side was especially mutilated. "...I need to be more careful, that could have blown off my whole hand...." He looked at his pocket and stuffed it in, hoping one day that something from the system could aid him in reattaching it, and went back to the big sealed storage container with a piece of paper on it.

"Clank!" Leonard opened the lock after picking it, unsealing it. With that, he pulled on the door, the door making a huge screech as it was being opened.

Leonard took a look inside...
