Chapter 2 - Kaan Vortigern

CHAPTER TWO

A small chuckle escaped Conlaed's lips before he used his right hand to hold Abaddon's chin, forcing him to look at him. "Listen well, I am no friend with a traitor. I live to serve only the Demon Lord, Abaddon."

With that, he released his chin roughly and stood back up, picked up a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands with it, then threw it on Abaddon.

"In the name of the king, the traitor Abaddon has been captured and arrested to stand trial, waiting for the verdict of the Demon Lord." His voice came out loud and clear, as though he had waited for this opportunity since.

Turning around swiftly, Conlaed eyed the physician who till now was still cramped up on the chair, and spoke his next words heavily. "TAKE HIM AWAY."

"Yes sir!"

Meanwhile, at another part of the very same palace, a being was seen lying on the bed in a poorly lit big bed-chamber, with a thick set of duvet having a dragon and a demon insignia on it, covering him from toes to his chest as his breathing became laboured.

"Hmm…" He shut his eyes tightly, pursing his lips as he did.

Several beads of sweat began to form a new on his forehead as the existing ones flowed down the side of his face.

*LABOURED BREATHING*

He was in pain. It was so much. Seated on the bed was one of the beings feared throughout the universe but here he was on his kingly bed looking so weak and frail and clinging unto what he could get to sustain his life.

Standing at a corner in the very same room was a lady, with a face no younger than twenty-five, and arms crossed in front of her chest as she gazed upon the bed of the Demon King.

A being once reverenced and worshipped but now, reduced to the seemliness of his terminal sickness.

She shook her head, letting out a deep sigh. This was not supposed to have happened. Everything was going on well until he collapsed during one of his briefings in his throne room.

"What is wrong, Kaan Vortigern? You are stronger than this. When has it been known that a demon king suffers such? Please fight, keep on fighting and survive this."

She took in a deep breath, her chest rising and falling even as she released it sharply. Her eyes weighed down. Dark circles were evident like make-up to design her pretty round face, bringing out the darkness in her.

If only it was just that. Unfortunately, she had stayed up with this being for days, refusing to sleep not even for once.

Irrespective of her resolve, there was only one thing… she was still a living being and no matter the powers she possessed, one could only last so long.

Her lips parted into a long yawn as she quickly covered her mouth with the back of her hands before taking a couple of steps closer to the bed.

However, before she could go any further, a knock came in, causing her to halt and turn her head in the direction of the door.

The doorknob turned and it pushed open, revealing the intruder. She was not happy that she was disturbed. She had already asked that no one disturbed her ever since Abaddon and the physician left.

So who dare, disobey her order? She was just about to unleash her wrath when suddenly her gaze fell on the being who had done that.

"Fearghal." She said it more like a prayer than just calling it out.

"Hey babe," he casually said, strolling into the room as the doors shut close. "You still keep watch?" he asked rather than stated.

He knew her. She was the Demon Lord's new daughter after he took Abaddon in. Well to many she was friends with Abaddon and they looked like childhood sweethearts who were going to get married in the future.

In that vein, she was close to the Demon Lord as well and saw him as a father too. Unfortunately for her, she lost both her parents when she was but a teenager entering into a youthful age.

Ever since then, she became closer to the Demon Lord and Abaddon. They were her only family now. So, she cherished them with all her heart.

"Do I have a choice?"

"Yes you do, Carmilla. You do have a choice."

"I cannot leave my father. It breaks my heart to see him this way."

"You have to. Look at the dark circles underneath your eyes. It doesn't look good. You cannot take care of him if you break down too."

"But Fearghal, I…"

"Shhh…" He placed a finger over her lips and pulled her body closer to him with his other hand. "Babe, I am here for you. Go and relax, I would take it from here."

With that said, he brought her forehead up a bit and pecked her on it. "Go. You can go meet your hubby and let him work on your brains and body."

"Stop being naughty, Fearghal. Even in a dire situation like this, you still are naughty. Sigh, I am happy Lord Kaan cannot hear you right now."

'Hahhaha… He knows this has been how I always am. Now go before you change the topic. Oh and, say me well to Abaddon, okay?"

"Sure, thanks for being a true friend."

"Anything for my baby sis," Fearghal smiled and said.

"I am not your baby sis, naughty demon," Carmilla said with a small smile, before bowing her head and exiting the room.

The second the door closed behind her, he waited for a minute till he was sure she had gotten far enough then his smile dropped.

"Hmm, take care of him? You wish!" he turned around, so he was now facing the king on the bed. "I think it is about time we worsened your case, don't you think so, Kaan?"
