Chapter 12 - 12. Your friend's friend's frenemy

Charlie's POV:

Dear Jane,

I have no idea what I'm doing. Heck, I dont even know what I'm doing. I've never written a letter in my life. Except for that one time on that assignment maybe... Eh never mind, I didn't turn it in. How do you guys do this everyday? But since I've started, why not.

So, you might not know who I am but I know you very well, more than I'd have liked in some aspects. But, hey, it might be a good thing. Also, I am not proud to be going through someone else's stuff. But I kinda have to. So sorry, not sorry. But I feel like you're the only person who is likely to get an answer out of..... John, is that what you call each other? John and Jane. Oh, now I get it. I always thought Jane Doe was kind of a strange name. Straight from a crime scene. Aww, cute.

Anyways, I'm writing to you to tell or maybe ask you about something.

Now, you might be thinking why is a random stranger asking me about all of this? It's pretty complicated, if you want, I could write another letter about that or.... maybe a book. I don't wanna bore you.

About what I wanted to ask you, I stumbled upon A.. Er John talking about his girl. Do you happen to know anything about her? I know I'm being nosy but that's who I am. So I just want to ask who the hell is this fucking hot model girlfriend of his that I don't know anything about. Is it Vivian? I mean they're pretty close but I need to know, for sure. I can't live not knowing.

Your friend's friend's frenemy?,

-O

His girl?? HIS GIRL? He told me that I am his number one girl.

My eyes lingered on the signature and the address. From Percipience Academy. Who is it? Is it a girl? Of course it's a girl. Another pretty, rich, smart girl from the prestigious Percipience Academy. Does she like him? Is that why she's asking me if he's single? What's so special about him anyway? I mean, yeah he's tall and smart and charming with those big blue eyes and silky brown hair....wait what was I thinking about again?

I wiped the drool off my face before sitting up in my chair.

Why does he have to be so cute? It's not fair. If it was up to me, I'd wish him to be ugly just so all of those girls don't scrape their knees falling for my John.

Well, it's not like I wouldn't have fallen for him if I had actually seen him, met him, heard his voice. To be honest, I never asked him if he had a girlfriend. I always assumed that since I had dibs on him, he'd never ask anyone out. Ughh. Why am I such a big idiot? Dibs is for kids. It doesn't apply to teens.

Should I ask him?

Is it okay to ask something as personal as that?

Well, you've asked him what is sex. And asking about his girlfriend seems too personal to you?

Ehh. I was too young, too dumb to know what I was writing.

But more importantly, do I even wanna know?

Nooooo!!!! My subconscious screamed at me.

What if it is, in fact, Vivian?

My thoughts always took a dark turn whenever I thought of her. I scared myself and even if I don't want to admit it, I'm jealous, no I'm envious of her. She gets to see him everyday, talk to him everyday, hear his voice, maybe even hug him when I don't get to do any of that. Of course she'd fall for him.

And I'm sure Vivian isn't that bad. I mean the girl got a scholarship to Percipience Academy and an early acceptance to Harvard. Ducking HARVARD!!! I'll be lucky if I pass my freshmen year. Plus the way John describes her, she seems pretty sweet. So sweet that it gives me a toothache! It's not hard to like a girl like that.

Maybe, I'm the one who's getting between them, who's stopping them from being together. Maybe I'm the bad guy in their story. The vilian. But I don't want to be the bad guy.

I know how to fix this and I will.

Dear John,

I-

"Whatcha doin' ?" A deep voice came from behind me and scared the shit outta me. I scooted forward in my chair, stubbing my toe against the table's leg.

Oww. That hurt.

"What the heck is it that you want? ," I screamed at Aron, then turned back to the source of my pain, cursing and scolding the inanimate object.

"Are you alright, babygirl?," He looked at me with concern.

"Yeah, it's nothing," I shrugged it off.

"Not you. I was talking to the table, stupid," he looked at my table, "Did her fat toe hurt you, doll?"

I hit him on his head before settling on top of the desk, putting all of my weight on it. Serves it right for hurting me. Aron took a seat on my chair before he started,"I thought I'd remind you of the party. We're still going, right?" He pleaded," Please say yes. Say yes. Say yes."

"The party that's like a week and a half away."

"Yes," He answered.

"You mean the party that Aries...the guy who's hitting on me is inviting me to?"

"Yes," He flicked his tongue.

"The one where there's going to be bitchy cheerleaders trying to sabotage me?," I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes" he got out between his teeth while scratching his neck.

"The party that John is going to be mad at me for going to?"

"Ok, whatever, you win." He looked away. He folded his arms, his expression one of exasperation.

"So, are you going to answer my question or what?," He smiled at me, flashing all of his perfectly lined white teeth.

"Yeah, we're still going. Kinda?Maybe? I don't know. No? I'm not sure, okay?" I scratched my head.

"Hey! You're not doing this to me!! It's really bad to give me false hope and then withdrawing. No fair! No fair," he sat on the middle of my bed with his hands crossed over his chest and his lips in a pout glaring at the floor.

The same time Mia entered the room and indicated me to keep quiet as she pulled out her phone and clicked a photo.

The shutter of the phone caught his attention and he sat straight before giving Mia a glare and stretched his hand out, palm up silently indicating her to give him the phone so he can delete the picture.

When Mia made no move to hand him the phone, he lunged towards Mia, they ran back and forth around my bed before Mia hid behind me. Aron raised a brow at me and I raised my hands in surrender before I slid out of his way.

Mia gave me an exasperated look which quickly turned to a glare.

What? Not my fault I don't feel like running today.

"Come on, shawty, you lose. Now, hand me the phone," Aron smirked at her.

Her eyes wandered to me just before she threw her phone at me and I managed to catch it before running out the door. I shut the door but before I could lock it, Aron was already opening it. I ran down the stairs nonetheless.

Huh, guess I am running today.

Mom who was sitting on the couch, watching TV didn't even blink an eye as we ran around her living room. I picked a few pop corns on my way outside as I ran to the yard of the house next door. I ducked behind the flowers, looking for cover.

A shadow came over me and I looked forward to see a pair of nike's black sports shoes, ooh nice shoes. I looked up to be met with light green eyes lit with mischief.

"Hey!," he smirked at me and just like that, I snapped out of my daze.

"Charlie!! I swear to god, if you post that picture on your instagram, I'll dig a grave for you and I'll threaten to throw you in it but I won't. I'll surprise you by drowning you in the baker beach!!!," Aron came out of my house shouting before his eyes landed on Aries," Hey Aries."

He jogged his way towards him, "Yo, how are you? Fine? Yeah, me too. Thanks for asking, did you-did you happen to see Charlie? The minion, about wee small" he pointed his hand a little bit above the ground, "The one you asked out?"

Yo, I ain't that small.

"The midget? Baby Yoda's identical twin. Nah." He replied.

"Well, if you see her, tell her that her mom's waiting for her down in the kitchen and...and that she's baked muffins for her."

Ha! The nerve of that bitch!! He thinks I'll believe him?

Well, it wouldn't hurt to check.

Aron turned around mumbling about his plan to kill me and walked away before I stood up and pinched Aries' ear.

"Ow, ow, ow. Please stop. That hurts," Aries whined.

"Tell me you won't call me Baby Yoda's identical twin anymore and I will." I stood my ground.

That's so lame. If anything, I'd be his fraternal twin. Cause we look nothing alike.

"I might have to think about that," He said when I loosened my hold on his ear and I pinched harder," OKAY!! OKAY! Will you stop pinching my ear? Damn you are strong. Remind me not to mess with you the next time," He said pointedly before rubbing his ear.

"So, Charlie, huh? Cute name. But I think Thumbelina would suit you better," He quickly covered his ears.

"So, what are you doing here," I asked with my arms crossed across my chest.

"Well, I live here?" He asked more than answered.

"I..What...I knew it. I knew it. You're a stalker and you're following me. You even killed poor old Mrs. Cooper to come to the house next door."

"I can't hear you. Maybe it's the fact that I've gone deaf or maybe it's just cause you're too close to the ground, far away from my ear?" He ridiculed and I jabbed him.

"What are you, 5?" He said with a straight face," Oh, wait, would you look at that? You are five" He pointed to my height.

I folded my hands across my chest," I'm not five, I'm five and an inch" I challenged with my nose high up in the air.

He tapped it, "Aww, you're so sweet, honey. Here, this is for you."

He had something in his outstretched hind and when he opened his palm, I saw a.... A CHOCOLATE?!!!

Well, it wouldn't hurt to take it.

Hell no. My pride interfered.

Oh, shut up.

I snatched the chocolate from his hand and turned around before walking away.

"Hey we're still on for the party, right?" he shouted after me and I flipped him the bird before walking to the park.

The next day....

Dear Jane,

I have a girlfriend? When? Where? How? Most importantly, who?

Wait, are you my girlfriend?

"You know what I'm talking about," I mumbled.

No, I seriously don't.

"You know, your fucking hot model girlfriend," I was literally burning.

You know what, I'd love to meet my fucking hot model girlfriend. Can you tell her that I'm looking for her?

"There is no girlfriend, is there?," I rested my chin over my palm.

A first girlfriend's pretty special. No, I think I would have remembered that.

I let out a breath of relief.

About my girl, I'm sorry I forgot to tell you about. My bad.

My breath hitched in my throat once again.

Would you like to know about her?

Oh, of course, you do.

Ok, so I've known her for a really long time. She's really kind and sweet. I fell in love with her, the very first time I got to know about her thoughts. She has the most beautiful and kindest soul in thr world. She also happens to be my number one girl.

"She seems nice," I acknowledged with a frown.

Oh, she is.

Her favourite hobbies are writing letters to random strangers which is the sweetest thing in the world, singing to me, spending her hard earned money on gifts for a dumbhead like me, baking cookies, eating them and doubting me.

She hates studying, chesse in her sandwich, pineapple in her pizza, the dumbo octopus, an animal she didn't even know existed until discovery chanel and trusting me.

She loves to daydream, spend her free time with her best friend, eating lots and lots of food, getting free stuff.

Hey! I love free stuff.

Guess what else does love?

"Doubting you," I rolled my eyes.

That's right.

Now, do I really need to tell you who it is?

"Yes, yes, you do," I nodded my head.

It's YOU!!!!

I told you that you're my number one girl and you have dibs on me. How can I get a girlfriend if I'm already booked?

"I don't know, dibs is for kids?,"

No, it's not. It's for people who believe it.

And I want you to believe.

And I don't want you to ship Vivian and me.

Then who do you want me to ship.

I wish you'd know.

P.S. : I love you

P.P.S. : Who the heck told you I have a girlfriend? And why the heck did you believe it?

John

I jumped off the table and did a little dance session in celebration.

He doesn't have a girlfriend!!!

He doesn't have a girlfriend!!!

I want to shout it to the world. I move to my balcony.

"He doesn't have a girlfriend!!!," I scream my lungs out "He's single."

"Well, so are you!," my neighbor next door shouted. Aries gave me a smirk, "What do you say? I make your wish come true. Take all of that loneliness away?"

I forgot he lives here. Ughh. I liked the old mean woman better.

Mia rubbed her eyes, her hair messy before stepping onto her balcony," What the fuck happened? Why are you shouting at," she looked back at her clock," 6:00 in the evening, some people are trying to sleep."

"Mia, HE'S SINGLE. HE DOESN'T HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!!!!!," I shouted to her.

"Well, I'm right here," Aries yelled, pointing around himself.

"He told me I'm his number one," I told her.

"I never said that before but Okay, you're my number one!!," Aries said.

Mia rolled her eyes at him before she told me she's coming over.

He's mine.

For now.

That stupid insecurity barked in background.

After reading the letter, Mia came to the conclusion that I should tell him about the party. Since it would be unfair if I didn't and we spent the last hour arguing over it.

"Quick, come to a conclusion" someone yelled at us and we screamed holding each other.

"Relax, it's just me," Aron rolled his eyes.

"Is everything okay up there!!," Mom shouted.

"Yeah mom, it's just Aron," I yelled back.

"Ok then, tell him not to steal my food anymore or he won't like what's coming for him," Mom said.

I frowned at Aron and shot him a questioning look to which he responded with a shrug.

"Can you be a little less quieter? More noisy." Mia asked.

"Kinda like you guys?," Aron asked and Mia nodded, "No thanks. I prefer being able to sneak out at late nights without my parents knowing."

Oh well.

"Get to the point, are you going to tell him or not?," Aron asked.

"I'd rather not go," I mumbled.

"Hey! Hey! That is not an option," Aron protested,"You either go and tell him or go and don't tell him"

"Look, don't listen to him. Just do what you want to. If you don't want to go, don't go. If you want to go, at least tell him." Mia encouraged. How did I happen to stumble upon this beautiful woman.

"Just remember, this may be our only chance to climb the social ladder, you know what I mean," Aron joined his hands in front of me and Mia dragged him out the door by the ear.

"It's not like he never went to a high school party," Aron shouted as Mia closed the door in his face.

Well, he's got a point.
