Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 5

It came again, the attacker, the loud grunts, the pains, and the eyes, hopeless and painful eyes, the explosives.....

"Damn"

Even though I've had the same dreams for some years now, I just couldn't get used to it and I don't think I will be able to, at least not until I find that jerk. And I will do just that, but I think I've set off signals towards Mel. I will have to be extra careful, shut off any emotions towards the murder or any other case that may happen because or not because of him. With that in mind, I went to work, not eating breakfast.

"Good morning" I greeted Mel as I entered our office. Knowing she wouldn't respond-no manner- I just went to my seat. Anger a while,

"I'm gonna go to the lab. Don't miss too much, babe" I winked at her then dashed through the door before she could say anything.

"Good morning" I greeted Olive after I entered the lab

"Hey" she responded with a smile. So unlike someone

"Thanks for locking up" she said

"No problemo" I said and she chuckled

"I really don't think you have a bad character. You are just funny"

"Sorry?"

"Mel"

"Oh, I see" I shrugged my shoulders,

"Let's just say that I am a really poor and innocent victim. But is that all she said? Just that I have a bad character?" I doubted Mel would only say that. That girl has just about a loose mouth

"No, but I just summarized it" she answered with a smile

"Well thanks, I may have had to sue her for personality defamation" she laughed

"I'm serious" I said but I, myself, couldn't stop smiling

"Sure. Seeing as you are smiling yourself, you are very serious. Poor Mel"

I smiled

"See ya"

"Where are you going?" I asked Mel

"None of your business"

"But I told you this morning!"

"I never asked" she stated

"That's true. But still, it won't hurt to tell, would it?"

"Do I need to tell you where I'm going?" she signed

"For protection of our beloved colleagues?" I asked rather than saying.

"Yeah right"

"Yeah right. Besides..." she interrupted me

"I'm going for lunch, okay? Satisfied?"

"If you knew you were going to tell me, shouldn't you have just told me. Did you have to make me talk for so long. Now, my mou..." I was cut off with her glare

"Wait!" I shouted before she could leave angrily and break the door

"What?!" she was already angry. Gosh Mel, no patience

"Could you help me buy lunch?"

"No" Seriously! She didn't even think about it

"Wait!" I stopped her again

"Are you out of your already malfunctioning brain?!" I knew she was angry, but I just couldn't help the laughter threatening to rise from my throat

"You are laughing?"

"Not yet" I whispered but she heard it

"Wait!!"

"Stop me again and I promise you, you won't laugh ever again" Now, I gulped

"Please, can you just help me buy lunch. I would have gone myself, but I'm just so tired. Please?" she took a deep breath. Surprisingly,

"What do you want?" she asked me. I was so startled, I couldn't talk.

"If you don't talk and I leave, I'll pluck out your eyes and feed them to vultures if you call me back" she said and I didn't need any more warning

"Nothing much. I will just have two avocado chicken salad burger, two frozen veggie along with a cup of cafe au lait coffee with a Rosetta design on top" I said

"Are you going to eat everything?" she asked with her eyes opened

"Why? Is anything wrong?"

"No. I'll be right back"

"What of the money?" I asked before she could even turn

"Right". I gave her thirty dollars not knowing how much it would cost

"Be right back" she said and she finally left.

After she went, I went to my system. I've been trying to look at the case for any thing that could help me catch him. I knew that we were solving the case together, but I was going to catch that animal myself.

I jumped on my chair as I heard Mel call my name and closed the page I was working on- she should really stop that

"Mel!" I exclaimed after I settled but she just shrugged

"I was calling your name but you didn't answer"

"By the way, what are you working on? You've been really obsessed with you system these past few days" she continued

"Nothing" I said. It was obvious she didn't believe me, but after a while, she just handed me my lunch

"Thanks, I was really hungry". To complement what I just said, my stomach grumbled

"See?". She laughed

"Enjoy your lunch, then" she said and walked over to her desk. I couldn't wait anymore, I started ravishing my food. After eating,

"That was probably the best lunch-from-work-break I have ever eaten" I said out of practical ecstasy

"You are done?" Mel gasped

"Why? Is anything wrong?" I asked for the second time in less than two hours

"Yes! First of all, you ordered that two-people-meal, then you finish them all in less then six minutes"

"How many minutes was I supposed to use then?"

"At least, twenty minutes!" she exclaimed. I would have thought she was joking if not for the seriousness settled on her face. Even though, it was just too hilarious to me that I burst out laughing

"What?" she frowned

"Twenty minutes! What am I? A mosquito?" I didn't even know where mosquito came from

"I would have taking more than twenty minutes" she said now crossing her hands

"Just for four burgers in total?"

"No" she answered, then she said,

"For one". I stopped laughing

"What?"

"And it's not 'just' four burgers. How many stomachs do you have?" she asked

"One. And it's definitely just four burgers. I didn't even to my fullest"

"Are you kidding? After devouring four innocent burgers, you are full?"

"No and I prefer 'ravishing' to 'devouring'" I corrected her but Mel being Mel,

"How many is your fullest then?" she just ignored it

"Maybe six?". Her eyebrows were raised

"Come on, Mel. You don't really expect this Greek god," I pointed to myself, "to be full just by eating four burgers, do you?"

" You're so wrongfully cocky" she huffed

"I'm sure I'm not the only person disagreeing with what you just said right now" I said wriggling my eyebrows at her causing her to make a gagging sound.

"Yeah, sure" she said obviously sarcastic, our conversation completely something else from food. Then something came to my mind

"Where's my change?" I asked her. A smile visited her face

"Well, I thought since you were a Greek god and stuff, you wouldn't mind if I dashed it to the waiter"

"You gave my change to the waiter?!". Although I didn't mind at all

"I left it, not gave it" she corrected

"That was my last money". Even I couldn't believe that was what I could come up with

"Yeah, but no worries. You have a salary"

"That was my last money for the bus I was supposed to take after work".

"Sure"

"I am serious!" I said even though I knew that a mountain would have to melt before she would even consider considering believing me

"I never said you were lying" she retorted

"I never knew you were someone who gave money out" I said but she just hummed

"Give me back" I told her

"Give what back?" she asked

"My money" I answered

"Sorry?" she asked surprised

"The money you gave the waiter. Give me back"

"You must be feeling dizzy. Go and rest" she said then started doing whatever she was doing

"I feel perfectly fine". She just shrugged

"Mel" I called her

"Yes" she answered normally

"Just forget it" she added

"My last bus money?"

"It isn't your last money" she signed

"It's m..."

"It's not your last bus money also" she interrupted, I signed

"Fine, but I didn't think you were someone who gives money out" I stated out

"I'm not" she said

"Then why did you give him the money?" I asked, she shrugged again

"Is he your relative?" I asked

"Eww" she answered

"A friend of yours?"

"Never"

"Someone you've seen before"

"No?"

"Someone you know?"

"I would have been in bailed out of jail". Then she signed,

"Let's just say it was kind of a I-don't-have-your-time money"

"He must have been very annoying"

"And a jerk" she completed then added,

"Although not as jerky and annoying as someone else" she glared at me

"I wonder who that is. Want me to get rid of the person for you" I said even knowing I was the one she was referring to

"Oh, please do. You can even kill him if you want"

"Wow, he must really be on your bad side. But don't you think you will miss him if he's not there anymore"

"No" she said

"Not even a little bit?" I asked him

"Miss him my feet" she muttered but loudly for me to hear. I laughed but instead of her to scold or threaten me like she always did, she surprised me by chuckling
