I would have thought Mel hadn't come to work if I didn't see her bag on her chair. Still at the door, a knock and Sky entered,
"Hey" she greeted
"Hey" I responded
"We have a conference meeting right now"
"Got it. I'll be right there" I said and she left. After I put my bag on my desk, I went towards the conference room
"Hey, Jace" Jade greeted as I entered putting his hand up for a fist bump
"Hey" I fist bumped him then took my seat between him and Olive
"Morning" She whispered
"Morning to you too" I whispered back
"Hello everyone!" Alex greeted as he entered the office
"Sup" Jade was the only one who responded. He raised his hand for a high five which Alex took
"Thank you all for your presence" Alex started
"Why are we here?" Mel cut him off. Typical
"Party pooper" Jade complained
"There was never a party" Mel huffed
"Even though!". Mel didn't bother to respond
"Anywayyyy" Sky interfered, "Alex, why are we here"
"Party pooper two" Jade muttered but we all heard. He was about to say something else but shrunk down when Sky sent him a glare
"We have a lead" Alex said. I sat up
"On the murder case?" Ken asked
"Obviously" Jade said in a 'duh' tone. Olive slapped his head lightly
"Yes" Alex asked
"What is it?" Olive asked
"I'm getting there. It's a witness"
"A witness? How is that even possible?" Mel asked
"Yeah, it was a blackout" Ken backed her
"I agree, but apparently, it seems like someone was working to or from his house when the blackout happened. He heard the crash of the window then he went after it, pretty brave if you asked me. As the murderer was busy with his 'work', he didn't notice a light being directed towards his face"
"Did he see his face" I asked. I'm pretty sure everyone was surprised but Alex answered me
"No, he was wearing a mask, but the witness is able to describe the upper part of his face quite well"
"Where is he?" I asked
"Do the FBI know about it?" Ken asked
"I think so" Alex answered
"So he's in there custody " Jade said
"Not yet. The witness asked for some time before he could say anything. It's not really a ice cream-eating-moment seeing someone killed" Alex stated
"Then when do we meet him?" Sky asked
"When he is settled" he answered
"When is that?" Jade asked
"How will he know? Is he a spirit?" Ken scolded
"Hey, it was just a question" Jade defended himself
"Then ask a sensible question
"That will be the end of our meeting" Alex quickly said before any of them could say anything else
"Bye" he greeted then he left followed by the rest of us, but not before Jade slapped the back of Mel's head gently and ran out before as she was giving him her ever-so-famous glare. I just chuckled but zipped it out as she directed it to me.
MEL'S P.O.V.
I signed when Jace and I entered our office. Although we are not that friendly, or maybe I to him, my desire to kill him was gradually fading, Gradually. He was still annoying, like the time he told me to buy lunch for him. I was so angry that I was sure I was, in the very least, in a generation line of the goddess Lyssa, not that I wish for that to happen. But, even till now, I was still shocked as to why I agreed, I guess I was just too tired and didn't want to spend even a minute of my life in jail- that wasn't living my life in simplicity. And how he devoured those poor burgers, even though they knew that their fate was to be eaten, that was just too harsh. And he said he was not full. I shuddered, I didn't even want to know when he was full.
Apart from when he jumped when I brought his lunch the other day, he had not been strangely. He behaved so normal, I was nearly thinking that I was just bored and wanted some fun in my life, and although a part of me said something was up with him and it had to do with the case, I just decided to let it lay for now. Maybe he was just on his period.
When Alex said there was a witness, I glanced at him and shockingly but not shockingly, he was calm. Throughout the meeting, he seemed to be relaxed, he even said something and I knew everyone was shocked; this was the first. The meeting went well apart from Jade being silly- no surprises there.
"I'm so tired!" Jace whined after he sat down stretched
I rolled my eyes, "We didn't even do anything in the meeting"
"We talked" he defended himself in a duh tone
"That is not considered something to be tired after doing". I knew we were heading to a heated conversation if one of us doesn't stop. And truth be told, I didn't actually care.
"Hey, don't you know that people lose their energy when they talk?" he asked frowning his face
"Oh really? Please enlighten me" I replied sarcastically but Jace just decided to rub my skin with an iron sponge
"With pleasure. So you see..," he started, "when we talk, we breathe through our mouth and the deep breathing stimulates the loss of vital carbon dioxide. Also, while talking, people usually inhale through their mouth and generate words on exhalation. I would really love to tell you more but I don't wanna bore you" he finished with a smug look on his face. I wanted to say something, but I didn't know what to say; not even an insult, so I just went back to my seat saying nothing
"Nothing to say?" Jace asked really confused. I know, I'm also confused
I shrugged my shoulders
"Nothing is coming to me"
"Really?"
"Yeah"
"That's strange. You would have said hundred things by now, most of them insults"
"I know" I agreed
"Are you okay?" he asked
"No" I replied
"Are you sick?"
"No"
"Hurt?"
"Nope"
"On your period?!" he raised his voice this time
"JACE!!" I raised my voice higher
He just laughed
"Fine, fine, I'm sorry. Okay?" he said after seeing my face
"Sure" I said, my face lighting up
"Gosh, you are no fun" he complained
I raised my eyebrow,
"You ask a woman if she's on her period, and you think she should be laughing with you? I wonder why you are not in a hospital"
"Why would I be in a hospital?" It was his turn to raise his eyebrow
"Two reasons. To be treated of your injuries gotten from the women, and probably to be treated back into your right state of mind"
"I don't need to be at a hospital" he said rather serious
"Okayyy. I didn't mean any harm. No need to be serious" I raised my hands with a nervous chuckle
He signed and smiled, I noticed it was forced. He was about to say something but was stopped by the sound of his phone. I was slightly shocked that someone rang him, it was the first time in two months. As he glanced at his screen, his smile immediately dropped, but he didn't answer it. He cut it off the second time
"I think you should pick it up. It could be.." I was cut off by his very serious glare. Okay, this is not Jace . He also cut it at the third ring. After the fourth ring, a ring was heard signaling a message. I didn't know what it was but I don't think it was telling him good morning. He furiously removed the battery from the phone, threw it in one of the drawers and stood up
"I'm going home" he grumbled before storming. His voice was laced with anger but I also heard sadness in it. Okay? What's wrong. I stared at his desk, clenching my hands to resist going over to check his phone
JACE'S P.O.V.
I threw the vase into the TV. I was angry. I was furious. What the heck does he want? Can he leave me the heck alone? How dare he tell me that? What does he think he is? Who does he think he is? What right does he think he has? I forcefully grabbed my hair ignoring the pain that has become quite dull after some years of doing that. I took deep, heavy breathes trying to calm myself down. Realizing that I could only do one thing that wouldn't put me in jail, I went inside, took my boxing gloves and put them in a bag, searched for my keys wherever they where and took off.
I groaned as I slumped into my bed face first, throwing the bad off somewhere. I was exhausted. So exhausted that my anger cooled down and something else stirred. I grunted in approval when my stomach grumbled, I was hungry. I was beyond hungry, I was starving. I wish I could just tell Mel to get me food. My brain working again, I jerked up on my elbows from my bed, then sat down. She couldn't have gone through my phone, could she? No, she wouldn't. That isn't Mel. I relaxed but slumped back on my bed. How was I gonna explain what happened today to her. I'm sure she's confused right now but I couldn't help myself. What she said about the hospital brought me back to when I was hospitalized after the incident. Then, I wished for two things; for John to be with me, and that if it had to be only one out of us, John would be the only one there, but nothing happened. As if the remainder wasn't enough, he just had to call. Can't he tell when he is ignored? And the text he sent. My fist curled up as I re-read the text again in my mind. Calm down, I told myself taking deep breathe, getting worked up isn't important right now. When you find the asshole, you can get all your anger out and download it on him. I signed. I couldn't wait, but I had to, and while I'm doing that, I'm going to think of what to tell Mel tomorrow. I had managed to keep my composure and I couldn't risk losing that. Apart from the fact that she might be in danger if she comes around trying to dig, I didn't want anyone with me. Sadly and unfortunately, even if it was Mel. Gratefully, my stomach reminded me that I haven't eaten and I was starving. I went to the fridge, took out four slices of pancake, warmed it then fried two eggs. After finishing putting the syrup and preparing a cup of hot cocoa, I began to dig in.
5:07.
I groaned, if I slept now, I might wake up early and I hated that. But I didn't have anything to do, so I just went to sleep
