Finally a person who believed their story. No way was Jay going to let them write it off like it was nothing. He'd shove all these people in the volcano if necessary for them to find it.
Stay away as if! So they could 'say' they looked around for two seconds before leaving again! Ha he'd make sure they found it. How long till they were in the area anyway? They should probably just go watch the area until they found these two mysterious mages. How would he even be able to tell them apart from the cult people?
This might prove to be a bit more difficult that he first thought. He needed to get some kind of identifier on the mages.
[Jay's Phone: Could we meet up? I wanted to confirm something in person if that's okay.]
[BrightSpeed: Very well, please send an address.]
Jay quickly sent over the information for the extra motel room he and James had gotten so they could talk without worrying their family.
It only took the mages 10 minutes to arrive, were they already that close?
"Greetings" a small guy with blond hair said entering the room followed by a taller guy with darker hair. "You can call me Bright, and him Frost." He said motioning to his partner. "You said you had more information or something?"
"Yep" replied Jay, "I also wanted discuss its ability. He began recounting his tale of the cult the snake and how for a solid minute before James showed up he almost wanted the snake to eat him. I can show you exactly where the snake is hiding."
Bright glanced at Frost and they seemed to share some sort of silent conversation. Then he turned back to Jay "If it really is a high level fire snake it would be better if we went alone, no offense."
"Not to worry I am perfectly capable of running as soon as it appears." Jay replied.
Bright looked hesitant but finally nodded, "Fine but don't get anywhere near it. We will start by simply locating the snake. Then we will return plan and then deal with it."
Jay nodded his head in understanding. Since he still had a ways to go with his magic he'd let them handle the monster, for now, give it a few more years and he'd get strong enough to beat them with his eyes shut.
Seeming satisfied the two mages went to a corner and spoke about something out of ear shot of Jay and James.
"Do we really have to go as well?" asked James his eyes focused on Jay.
Jay rolled his eyes a little, "If you're scared just stay here, I can show them where it is."
"If you're going, I'm going, I just don't like it." James retorted.
"Whatever just make up your mind and don't go regretting it later." Jay replied watching the two odd mages as they seemed to finish up whatever they were discussing, maybe it was plans for the snake depending on the level, or maybe it was how to best get out of their jobs. They were too suspicious; Jay would have to keep his eyes on them.
"Please show us to the snake." Said Frost, "We have a car out front we can use." They moved out of the motel.
Jay followed eyeing the black car as he did. James followed a little behind, he still looked to be sulking about it. Jay was tempted to not hop in the car, but at the same time these mages were going to help...trustworthy? Well not exactly trustworthy but the two mages didn't seem interested in feeding him to a snake. For now that would have to be good enough.
Once they were all in the car Bright took off following Jay's original directions toward the volcano. Huh was Frost's hand on Bright's leg, were they a couple? Nah that's nonsense, Jay was just over thinking again.
Ugh kissing James back must have messed with him mind he was seeing lovers all over. But at the same time why was he suddenly feeling more attracted to James's eyes? Come on thoughts go back to normal, this whole mess would fix itself by the end of the week. Then he could go back to his normal school life with James.
Once he graduated and joined a guild then the real leveling up fun would begin. He'd become to strongest, and his guild would rule the world. Well not exactly, but in terms of regulated monster fighters they'd be number one.
The car arrived near the volcano's top and they traveled the rest of the way by foot. Jay noticed Frost's shoes had ice on them that was constantly rolling around.
"What's with your shoes?" he asked
"These?" Frost looked down, "They are just something weird I came up with to keep up with Bright, although when he goes all out he can still easily double my max speed."
"So he's fast?"
"You could say that."
Bright glared at them "Shhhh, both of you unless you want to tell the snake dinner is fast food for the night."
Jay shut his mouth and followed him. At least he seemed to take his report seriously. They moved up the side and over the rim of the volcano. Below it bubbled and small waves rippled across the surface of the lava.
Bright laid on the ground and motioned the others to follow. They waited about 30 minutes. Jay waited for him to announce that there wasn't anything and they were leaving but he didn't. One hour, Jay gulped, where was that stupid snake, don't tell me it decided to move now of all times.
He was starting to get a little fidgety. He saw Bright shift his position slightly.
"Don't worry I'm sure it will appear soon, it does exist I promise." Jay replied anxiously.
Bright held a finger to his lips. "Don't worry I know it does, Frost and I can sense it."
Sense it? Thought Jay, was that a thing? Wait were they using something similar to his outline ability? Below the lava when he focused hard he could see a slightly darker red blue moving within the lava.
"We just need to get a good look at it." added Bright.
