It's okay, thought Jay, I can totally do this. He watched the two mages split off with Bright going toward the snake and Frost taking a position near the edge of the lava. Ice formations started to surround the ground around Frost.
Bright launched himself toward the snake somehow jumping through the air. What the heck kind of magic... wait was he using bright shields like stepping stones? What a weird bright user, but it was also extremely effective. Heck they should totally teach that as a standard skill. He was moving so fast it looked more like he was flying.
The snake's attention immediately focused on Bright who continued to jump around as if taunting the creature. Frost's ice seemed ready as well... whoops they are waiting on me. Thought Jay as he quickly closed his eyes focusing on the snakes outline. Stop! He thought in his head trying to make the outline stay still. To his surprise the snake visibly jerked for a half second before continuing its path.
Frost shot a jagged ice spear at the snake. It hissed and dodged a little to the side. The spear made a small scrape on its outer scales.
The snake turned toward Frost and tossed a fireball at him. Frost dodged it easily though. A crackle was heard and then a loud boom! As a bolt of lightning shot at the snake from Bright. The snake hissed, with its fire being naturally resistant to bright magic, only its opposite ice could truly harm it given its current level.
The bolt of lightning was enough for the snake's attention to once again focus on Bright. Jay focused again on his outline trying to make it firm then he issued his command again, stop! This time when the snake jerked a spear of ice shot up through it middle section skewering it.
The snake let out an enraged hiss and turned to Frost again. This time it lunged, which was twice as fast as its fireball attack. Which seemed a bit counterproductive in some ways. Frost tried to dodge but caught his foot on a rock and tripped.
The snake's fangs came down on him. Just before they hit a bright shield appeared blocking the snake. Bright held the shield against the snake and was flung backward even with the added power of being right next to his spell.
Jay leapt forward to the edge to look over and see if Bright was okay. He was standing on another small shield just a foot above the lava on the far side of the volcano. Jay breathed out a sigh of relief but it didn't last long. The snakes head turned and its eyes locked on Jay who was now out in the open.
Its aura wave suddenly hit Jay full force and he had to kneel under its pressure. 'die, die, die' the snake's aura wave clearly called the three mages to hop into the lava.
Bright and Frost seemed fine but Jay could hardly move let alone stand up. That was when part of the ground below him started to crumple into the lava. Jay yelped a little and the crumbling rocks suddenly froze solid, binding it into an ice shelf.
Jay breathed in slightly. The ice user Frost wasn't far from him and Bright was across the volcano still. The snake's tail lashed across and managed to knock Frost back a bit. Bright immediately caught him and pulled a little back from the fight Bright went for a solid ledge to drop Frost off at.
Jay froze as the snake's attention diverted from Bright and turned toward him. it launched a fireball toward him while using its head to keep Bright and Frost away from him. The aura wave hit him again and he had to drop his hands to the ground.
So this is a level 11 beast huh? He though watching the fireball fly toward him. it really did live up to its standard.
Jay closed his eyes unable to move. After a few seconds it didn't hit him and he opened his eyes. James was standing in front of him. His fire spell fighting the fireball of the snake.
The two spells collided as giant round balls of flames spinning off of each other. Jay's mouth nearly fell open, James was actually managing to force the large fireball back. He watched it disperse into a puff of smoke along with James's fireball.
"That was amazing" Jay whispered. He watched James turn slightly his left side burned badly. "James!" he yelped as the other fell onto into a crumpled heap on the ground.
Jay was one of those people who rarely ever got truly angry. Sure he'd get sarcastic plenty but truly angry he'd been that only twice in his life, although that count just changed to three.
His gaze turned to the snake and with an ice cold voice he growled stop! The snake froze still unable to move an inch. Immediately several ice spears shredded its body and the snake died with an antagonized hiss.
Jay moved forward a few steps feeling like his heart had stopped. He knelt down next to James and started using as much of his healing magic as he could on him. His breathing felt so feint. He could feel the damage and felt like crying with the slight pain even though it was only a tenth of what James was feeling.
Heal, heal, heal! He felt like screaming as he poured everything he had at James. Green light enveloped them both. He continued until every last ounce of his strength was gone. Barely able to keep his eyes open he noticed Bright and Frost were beside him. Heal! He thought again and then he blacked out from lack of Majikku and energy.
No one noticed the figure fully clad in black who slipped away from the battle scene with a small egg in his clutches.
